When you hear Linn sing anytime, especially in songs like this and Lapponia, you just know that she is not an Ordinary girl whatsoever. Also, whenever Linn sings off-key it always sounds majestic and like from another world. This is never the case with singers in general, whenever someone signs off-key, even purposely, it has a very bad sound, but when she sings this way and every way down to her hauntingly low voice, it is completely angelic.
@@virginia3937 Hey, I meant to respond earlier to this, but check out songs like "Sharpshooter" by Linn Berggren and also "ACE OF BASE: The Sign (Live) 1994" and I think you will see what I mean. There are many other instances where it happens too, and I love it.
Beautiful Linn. She gave the world so many wonderful vibes... What did she get in return? A knife attack on Jenny and her mom. And Clive Davis from Arista Records. Wherever she is, I hope - and think she is happy and healthy. She deserves that 110% >May the force be with you Linn
Well, she got paid a lot of money in return. One of the loveliest things I’ve heard about Ace of Base is that they split all the money 4 ways, no matter who wrote the song, who promoted the album or who sung lead singer.
Clive Davis helped Ace of Base to be a worldwide success. If you ask any member of the band they would agree. They may have had disagreements at the time for certain songs, but hey, that’s business 😂
@@CaptainPond He helped them be a success in America. They were already no.1 across Europe before Clive heard them. I think the band would probably credit Denniz Pop for that part.
Her voice has a pure appeal that can't be denied. Even this tape quality demos are like gems. You just really dont need to have a great voice but that quality.
In my idea, now the world needs linn more than 90's There is so many wars and bad news in the world now and linn can help people by her art, magic voice and peaceful message (in my imaginations, i see Malin as UN Ambassador for Peace) 💐 what a beautiful wish

This one along with "Lapponia" are true gems. Well arranged vocals and melody of an intelligent kind. I respect her point that she abandoned her music career to find peace but on the other hand it's such a waste of talent.
That's because it's a demo. She said they always sounded terrible because she singing into like a tape recorder. Then they would take this to the studio and turn it into a real song.
+Shane Power I guess you're right, but to me personally it doesn't make sense. I know bands who deliberately make demos with poor recording quality so that they can better judge which songs are really the strongest, independent of production values. For example, Erasure, who are renowned for Vince Clarke's synthesizer prowess, only use a single acoustic guitar or piano on their demos, and record them on a crappy old microcassette recorder. But then again, their demos always competed on equal terms, and they knew to ignore the poor quality, while Linn's demos were competing against nearly complete songs with high quality and production values. Myself, I would know to only listen to the fundamentals of the songs (I know it will sound much better later, and I'd have no concerns about how Linn will sound), but record company executives, on the other hand, may well go with the ones that sound better in an immediate sense on the surface. That's too bad. I don't know what her thinking was. I hope she didn't get the idea from other bands like Erasure, who have talked about it on a number of occasions because they feel it helps them write and choose fundamentally better songs (and then they add all of the synthesizers and production later)--that technique is only useful when all of the demos are recorded poorly.
Yeah...this one is lovely. It was presented as a demo for the Flowers album, it was rejected because of its poor sound & production quality. However, Linn made some beautiful vocals to it as usual.
Did Malin try this for flowers? I should have researched the era because after 1996 Malin did not want to record solo tracks or lead vocals. Her lead vocals for flowers was shared between the main releases and demos or both of bonus tracks like Adventures in Paradise, Dr Sun, L'Amour. There was hope that Lapponia would have made it. Unfortunately not. Everytime it rains the anomaly track success was her catalyst to withdraw. Tech Noir was a fantastic sound for them.
Sure, but according to what I read the other demos were presented as "almost finished tracks" so this turned to be a big disadvantage for Linn, three songs sung entirely by her were presented that day, this one, "She Was Thinking of You" & "Lapponia"...the last rejected by the same reason & because it was considered "too political"...
momanvgu I'm so happily married with kids but I can't stop looking at Linn. She has a look I cannot describe... eyes, hope, face structure and super sassy hair. What am I trying to say? Help please.
Hayden H that you love her just like I do. There's something about her that makes me wonder where does all that beauty come from. Her voice is just pure delight for the ears...she will always be my favorite female singer ever!
Ok, that makes more sense now. But still, demos are supposed to be just that, demos. I thought most modern pop musicians who are in groups try to work together to bring the best out of each other's songs? Maybe things are different in Sweden.
Ace of Base started out making very basic, crappy-sounding demos on microcassette. They were influenced early on by Depeche Mode, who did this to help them judge the quality and strength of the songs themselves without being influenced by full orchestration, arrangement, and production values--the stronger the basic song, the better the final song will be, or so their theory went. Erasure (founded by the same guy) took this concept even farther, using only a piano or a single acoustic guitar in their demos, which generally sounded really bad (on purpose). Ace of Base did the same sing with Jonas' songs early on, with either Jonas himself or in many cases Linn singing the demos (sometimes they sang together, but Jenny rarely demoed any songs but her own). When the Mega Records A&R guys had each band member independently write and demo their songs for consideration, Linn kept doing the same thing, but the other band members, including Jonas, all decided to put a lot more production value into their demos than before, including quality recording in the studio. Other bands don't necessarily work differently, although I think they usually all record demos in the same way in the interest of fairness, and I don't know why Ace of Base didn't make an effort to be fair. They each just did their own thing, and it was hard for Linn to compete against demos that sounded better, whether or not the actual songs were better. Who knows, maybe Linn just liked the idea of crude demos so much that she stubbornly stuck with it regardless, choosing to let her songs (lyrics, melodies, chord structure) stand on their own against slicker presentations. I wish I knew exactly what happened.
