Anyone trying to steal an ATM or a change machine is a special kind of stupid. Those things weigh a ton, are really hard to break in to, and don’t have enough to make it worth the trouble. I worked at a place where we had an ATM on site. Two guys, one was a janitor and one was the stockroom clerk, decided it would be easy money. They came back after second shift left because there would only be the security guard doing his rounds. They knew his rounds and had the timing all worked out. Things they either forgot or didn’t plan for: 1. They had to use one of their badges to open the gate to get in so it recorded who came in the gate. 2. There cctv to see who came in the gate and it was on the tape. 3. They never considered how heavy it would be. The machine was designed with thick steel panels all the way around for security. 4. It took them more time than they planned to get it in the truck and the security guard walked in just as they loaded it in the truck so they were seen. 5. They tore out of the parking lot knocking off the exit gate and getting recorded by the cctv again. 6. They finally made it to the apartment complex of one of the guys. They somehow managed to get the machine to the apartment. 7. They tried to break into the machine and couldn’t get it open after a few hours and finally gave up. 8. Unwilling to try and get it into the truck to get rid of it, they put it in the dumpster. So they went through all of this for no payoff. They were arrested and found guilty so they both got over two years in the penitentiary.
I was laughing at the dumb people until I remembered when I stuck my finger into an empty light socket, noticed that there was a metal plate that had to be pushed in for a light bulb to fit. So I pushed it in. Without checking the switch was off. I can tell you I never did that again, though. TL;DR being electrocuted feels like being pulled into whatever is shocking you while also having pins and needles all over your body but times a thousand.
