I had the 87 standard version 5 speed fuel injection, that little truck could tow all day and not even notice, tough little truck, you're gonna love it
My Dad had one just like this but brown. Let me use it a lot of time to go to swim meets when my kids swam, We lived in Napa and use to drive down to San Jose.
Loved that truck ! Just drove around in the 4x4 version myself through my teenage years . Father’s truck, but I just went everywhere with it . Little things just kept hanging on . Smaller engine so good mileage !!!
They had a weird carb setup in it. I always had a tough time when I worked with it the dealership where be bought it from eventually gave up, but we found a really good mechanic who knew what he was doing and did great with it till my Dad passed away. It's a really classy little pickup. Your truck has the same wheels on it as him, the same package.
I’m sure you will get it up and running. Looking forward to first wash. Jason, I have a type 3 monza muffler for that square back that I would love to donate if you are interested
That was too easy getting it out of the yard compared to what you normally go through. But I'm loving this truck. Sadly, it might be rustier than it looked at first glance but looking forward to the first wash that will reveal what's hidden under there. Also it looks like there might be a time capsule in all the stuff inside 😂😂
I can't tell you how happy i was to see the E brake off and when the rear wheels turned ! You are right, having it on the trailer there is more rust ( there is always more haha ) as I've looked it over but still very solid for up here and how these rust out. Thank you MC
my dad had a 1981 brown datsun, we called it the 'last datsun ever made' same king cab and fold back mirrors. had about 250k on it we had to sell when the rings went bad. we had already done the head gasket and put a weber carb on it but we finally gave up on it.
Nice subject, nicely executed.I have never cheated on VGG,until I saw this.I had a 1991 hardbody I painted myself,My dad took me with him in a king cab like this while he worked on cable TV in the mid eighties.Subbed for sure.
thank you...haha please don't cheat on VGG, he can really use the views😆;;....I would still like a hardbody too like my 97 SE I bought new, cool you painted yours👍. Cool stories, thank you for the comment and sub
nice catch, i'm so jealous ! my parents owned the same one early in the 80's, single cab, diesel engine here in France ! I'm waiting to see what happens next. see you.
I drove a black one like this @ 1990. Great truck, til the head gasket took a dump. But mine was super clean, bought from the original owner, and I was able to sell it for the same price I paid a couple years previous. These are great little trucks. Mine had the 8 spark plug setup, which was weird to me at the time.
Friend in high school bought one of those brand new around the time we graduated in '87. I distinctly remember thinking those parallel brake lines running across the firewall were the coolest thing ever (compared to the rat nest Fords I had been driving). Nice find...those compact pickups are in demand!
thank you Chris...a new truck around graduation huh? Reminds of the time I was staring out a classroom window into the student parking section and noticed a new king cab 4x4 toyota out there...kids Grandfather bought it for him...

I have the same issue with my compressor you have to have a heavy duty drop cord and you can hold the valve in you hit on top just hold it down a little let it build up and let off .
Put some gas in the tank and it's good to go, lol. You can't kill those trucks. I ran the scale for a salvage yard for several years. I bought four of those trucks during my time there. All four had been sitting for years, and I got all four of them running without buying a single part. I replaced the batteries with used ones that I had on the yard, but didn't have to buy anything for any of them to get them running. I resold all four of them. None of them got scrapped. I got $1500 for each of them without even cleaning them up. They all needed work, but people love those trucks. None of them were on the sales lot for more than a couple of days.
Those Motors where Strong Duel Sparkle Sticks Dizzy Capper ,I remember my dad had a work truck like that Z style I like Datsuns better but the Hard Body was a Strong Truck with that Z2,4 L
J man, Sounds like the start capacitor is shot or possibly a check valve or not bleeding air off the cylinder when the compressor shuts off might be reasons for not starting. Should be an easy fix
