Great video, this took me back! I drove a B81 with a 711 in it in the late 70s. It had the quad box as well. Those were the best years in trucking in my opinion. For a young fella, you have a lot of experience with these old rigs, you should be very proud brother!

Thanks for this video. I grew up on the South Shore of Massachusetts and these Macks were everywhere. Either concrete trucks or hailing sand and gravel to extend the runways at Logan Airport Mack trucks were there.. These are the trucks that built Boston and the surrounding suburbs. Thanks for sharing. I have a lot of fond memories of these beasts.

My first job out of driving school was up in Plymouth Meeting
pulling 35' dump trailers with an old red R models.
A buddy of mine Gary, went to work for Tony De Paul, so we saw each other a lot.
I hauled stone and sand into De Paul's Philly blacktop plant, and their main yeard.
Gary's first day a Friday, he got a triplex, 3 stick, B model.
He called me, and we went thru it all over the weekend, and got him running. 3 months later they bought like 300 new R models dumps (Rizzo Money, lol). Gary did great there. (he was Italian, so they loved him)
Always fun see nice old cared for rides, here.
    Stay safe out there.

Back in the early 1970's I drove one of the 81s, same set up. I hauled 12,000 gallons of heated bunker C to pulp mills in eastern Maine. With all the hills my arms had a workout. The truck had a drop down flag on top of the windshield for low air pressure. I lost air going down a steep hill going into Ellsworth and went through downtown and stop sign at about 55-60. Managed to get it back in gear going up hill after downtown got it stopped on level ground and found the leak. Just thanked God that it was 4:45 am, and know traffic. As an add on the trailers were non baffled and the ebb and flow of the oil was hard on things.
    going into downtown

Learned how to drive stick on a B-61 thermodyine and it had three sticks and Armstrong steering ( so called air assist) steering and you had to be careful going around corners and hitting the brakes because the wigwag would pop down and swing back and forth to alert you that you were low on air every thing ran on air pressure even the wipers. Good old days retired now but really enjoy your channel you show the real nitty gritty of driving for a living. Good Luck to you and everyone involved in making your videos. Dude, when i graduated high school i was going to go on vacation with my boys and my dad got me a job with his friend that owned a construction company. I had to choose job or Florida. I chose the job. I didn't know it but they had a bet on how long i would last. I proved them both wrong. Started out on the construction crew occasionally driving a small dump with regular manual gears. no problem. One evening they told me to bring one of the big Mack dump back to the shop and everyone left and i got in the truck out in the middle of no where not realizing it was so different. No cell phones back then. I might have got it to move 10 feet before figured i was going to ruin the thing so i turned it off and I sat there for a few hours praying someone would come back. Eventually, someone did come back and got me. I was embarrassed but i shouldn't have been!
That was a great video. I can tell you are the real deal especially that back up video in NY. Btw. I worked there three summers and the last one i ran my own small concrete crew. Best thing i ever did and i recommend it for any young man starting off so they don't go through life stupid.

Was an survey engineer in the early 60's and the company I worked for in Conn ( O& G Industries) had a fleet of 10 B-81 Macks and let me tell you, they were awesome. I road in then occasionaly back anf forth to our borrow pit---the driver I road with was very good a shifting the 20 speed quadraplex---just about the same as you were shifting, only differance was that he reached thru the steering wheel rather around it. The B-81's were running with the new Ford 534 ci gas V-8's and they were pretty equal as to the time it took from the pit to the job site!!! Just a great time in trucking history and I was there to witness all the good stuff. KEEP ON TRUCK'IN!!!!

Ah, the memories. I drove a B-61 Thermodyne/Triplex hauling steel out of US Steel's Fairless Works in the mid 70s. I've driven everything from Maxidyne/5 speed to Cummins/Cat/Detroit/18 speed and the old B-61 with the 15 speed Triplex is still my favorite.

That’s pretty cool, fellow truckers in my home town would let me drive there trucks when I was a kid as they knew I could drive if always jump
I’m passenger seat and ask for a drive on private road, one of my favourites is an old white 9000 671N tri axle dump truck had 13sp later got swapped for a grader and then turned into a prime mover but towing 65,000lb + off road in tri axle side dump road rebuilding she lacked powered and got replaced with FL112 freightliner with 60 series 450hp ex sheep truck you could still smell the lanolin in the interior for years afterwards, the owner sold his business and kept the 9000 and semi retired it to the farm he bought and then it dropped a valve years later and I believe it’s in pieces
