- Title: Machine Gun
Artist: Jimi Hendrix
Album: Jimi Hendrix (film)
Released: 1973 (Netherlands) documentry
Machine Gun was performed live at the Isle of Wight, 31 August, 1970.
As a teenager their was a trilogy of artists I listened to regularly; Black Sabbath, Alice Cooper, but most of all Jimi Hendrix. Jimi Hendrix infused me with a love for music. A friend of my youngest sister was be dispatched to Vietnam so he gave his albums to her but she and no one else were interested in any of the music. In the collection was almost anything released (official and unofficial). There was no Cry of Love or War Heroes but most everything else. When a neighbor visited she put on Foxy Lady and I fell in love with Hendrix’s guitar. Back in the day, we called it acid rock, although I don’t see the term these days. Jimi could jam like no one else. He took Blues Rock to a whole new level distortion, wah wah and whammy bar application in innovative ways and when Hendrix played live he put his music into overdrive.

dodava1562 thanks for the upload guy but I can remember a time when you could view the entire Isle of Wight on you tube but now hardly anything. I can not understand ppl who make it their business to take down JH off media can you tell me what is going on. I have JH sound tracks on my shelf but in some peoples eyes they would sooner see a nuclear war start than for me to upload any of them crazy stuff.
Trying to watch over 4 minutes of hendrix is a farce you will get past then you get a hippyish young guy talking about steam engine boiler rivets at you wtf?

1:27 still the heaviest riff ever, 52 years on.
Agreed, that tempo shift makes even dirtier sounding. It almost reminds me of last part of the main riff for No quarter by Zeppelin, but of course Jimi did it first
For real
Federal
that shit is brutal
Right around 1:44 1:45 he drags a note playing the break the second time. It’s such an absolutely mournful, painful sound. Looking at his face and hearing that it’s just tears me up everytime I’ve heard it. I’ve played it over and over for decades. There was such pain in his heart you can’t mistake it. But that one note epitomizes Hendrix,no one since or before could pull such emotion out of the sounds he created. That’s why Miles wanted to work with him. Miles was all about the power of one singular tone
Nobody did what this guy did. Not before. Not during. Not after.
Zappa😌
So overrated
Exactly bro.. just that sound he puts out its wicked 🔥
@@JamesEvans-uh7nuwho’s overrated? Please elaborate now.

I wish someone would upload the full 17 minutes of this masterpiece!

You mean 22 mins but your right. Can't wait till this gets uploaded
Unfortunately if someone were to upload, it would get taken down for copyright
Mama Janie says no.
Just mesmerizing. Still playing at an insanely high level just weeks before he died.
You mean, before he was murdered...
Yes. So sad, such a soul taken away so young.
Why wouldn’t he be ?? Man was in his prime
He died at the height of his career. He most likely did die by accidental barbiturate overdose, which makes everyone really fucking mad because it’s such a waste and horrible death (choking on your own stomach contents) but i’d rather that than some heroin overdose or being shot by some crazed fan. I’d rather he’d died of old age but yeah at least he was asleep. The wine is the weird one, although what’s more likely, he was murdered in some crazy conspiracy, or it was a tragic accident that’s since been capitalised off by ‘music historians’ trying to make a quick buck. We saw it with his half sister, we saw it with the ransacking of his apartment, the hoarding of his posessions and recorded material, even his likeness etc. The man became a money magnet, then died before he could begin to care about the industry side and protecting himself and his legacy (we know he either didn’t care or didn’t comprehend because he had a history of signing exploitative contracts and getting into legal triuble as a result). It probably would’ve just continued getting crazier and crazier until he got arthritis or something otherwise. Imagine a Jimi Hendrix continuing to inspire, and then being inspired by those he inspired. We would’ve had this incredible fractal musicscape, moreso than we already do.
@@ALIENDNA14Basically means he still died
The way he turns around to go crank the amps is just badass. He’s the 🐐 for a reason

Amazing. I wasn't even born back then. Would you be willing to tell us more about the experience?
Nobody has ever come close to creating soundscapes like Jimi and they never will .
@Tony I admire your enthusiasm , but Jimi could play every genre like no other , rock , blues , classical , jazz , funk , soul . Miles although talented could not .
Who the fuck miles?

This is just another reminder why Hendrix will always be the best.
God Bless Jimi... Mitch was a beast on drums.
He def one of my all fav drummers up there indeed
The world will never experience anything like this again, Jimi was a gift from God.
Uh, you mean from the godS...plural. Many humans got to benefit from what Jimi did, not just the ones who believe in a single deity, or any at all, for that matter.
@@johntomasik1555 Who knows, maybe you'll come to faith when you get older, as I did.
@@ixoye56 Uh, I'm 60. Age, travel, observation, and learning pushed me away from it. Born and baptized a Christian, Read the bible carefully after watching a bunch of religious and their "faith-based insight" of the universe fail miserably. The Torah is actually stories from Israel and stories from Judah intertwined. It's why there are two versions of creation in Genesis, two versions of the flood. It parallels the stories of the tribes of Israel, through their struggles with their neighbors who'd regularly beat their asses 'cause their tribes weren't organized. Solomon gets into power, and he's the first to have a little success in the wars. But, he dies, and the tribes suffer again. Then King David rolls up, not only unifies the tribes' armies, but takes control of them.
I can walk ya through the 4 gospels and how, as they get newer and newer, place more blame on the Jews for the crucifixion. Or, would you like to discuss the four different stories, many of which are mutually exclusive?

Headbanging in the 1970s!
That riff has always been my favorite in this song...

Wouldn't make a difference.

Jimi Jimi Jimi talking and feeling. So beautiful
I've seen this a million times and 50 years later his solo's still mesmerizes me.....
I was there. Superb. I had actually moved from devastation hill to see joan baez. Wonderful.
Had this concert years ago on VHS blows you away stil
Jimi expressed his Soul through his playing ❤️
0:46 never noticed the casual flipping the standby switch on and off on the Marshall, no end to his cool ✌️
This is low key some early fusion, blues/jazz fusion. Especially with Mitch Mitchell laying down the different African rhythms every now and then
low key my arse
He was only getting started. Miss him so bad❤
The best ever!
All comments are highly superfluous .....the master at work ❤❤❤❤❤❤
My favorite solo of all time. There are two more amazing solos in this song as well.
Agree! At around 1:00. I would love to know what is the "source" or "scale" he based theese solos on. There is some kind of overtone going on that makes the guitar sound like a saxophone. Also it reminds me of Brahms and Tchaikovsky a bit.
That's pentatonic scale @@essaessaessaessa
Just wow!
There really was no one else at all even remotely close to Jimi. He was a one off event. Never to be seen or heard of again ever. But my god am i glad to still see this and be able to watch it over and over again.
Oh man. One of the best solos of all time..sticks u 2 the wall man xx..peace ya'll..:)
52 years later, still as fresh as ever
Every note this man plays captures the soul and to me, Hendrix sounds best at this performance with that typical thick early 70's rock sound. I can only dream of the music he could've made under the influence of the ongoing popularity of bands like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath.
Jimi did not follow Zeppelin Counterfeiters Fraudsters .... he made his own music not ripping off Delta Blue Legends
@@CP-kb1du THANK YOU!!!!🤷🏾♂️
He was headed toward jazz, blues & what was to be funk. You think Eddie Hazel, George Clinton & Bootsy Collins were influenced by him??😆 He & Miles Davis were talking about recording together before he passed.
He was his own man. That’s why the Yankee authorities hated him and the rest of the world loved him and his music. Ref the bands you mention, he’d have influenced THEM.
@RUSHIAN RICHARD - I Saw him play, in 1968, and HE was the influence , not the other way around! I saw many bands when they came through Boston or San Francisco on Tour, and few had a guitarist with the inventive energy or the unique panache of Hendrix.
💫⚡️🎸🥁Saw Procol harem at the East town in Detroit
Along with king crimson
One of my favorite all-time concerts still brings a smile to my face every time I think I either band
When he turns on that wah pedal 🔥🔥
I can't think of someone that could do that
besides Jimi
People can argue about who is the best till the cows come home. All I know is that NOBODY moves me in the way that Jimi does. The man was on another level. There will never be another like him. Absolutely otherworldly.
The ethereal visage of a man with an unbridled never ending source of power, skill and inspiration

The Master Speaks.
Fabulous! Had this bootlegged as a teenager. I always wished the Band of Gypsies Machine Gun version could’ve been filmed with this kind of quality.
This isle of wright concert was better than Woodstock.
Never
Debatable.
Jimi had tons of technical problems at the Isle of Wight festival at times through the performances he's not happy and abit frustrated still a great performance thou I think Jimi was on another level thou at Woodstock seemed more into his flow
@@donjohn2695 And He had cold.
No way
What a beast that man was
a man at the peak of his powers, my god those sounds....in another universe!
In the rush for technique at all costs, this still shows the way, in terms of direct connectivity to raw emotions and soul.
PERFECT👍🏻✌🏻🤘🏻
Timeless
Jimi's outfit is pretty badass.
Jamais je me lasserais de l'écouter
Most clean looking and sounding part is when he messes with the cabinet and flicks somethin on and off making the most beautiful sound known to man lol
Interesting. You can hear how Mitch Mitchell and Billy Cox are doing a tug of war over Jimi, trying to pull the song into jazz and funk respectively, and what comes out of that is insane brilliance.
Dude was the Picasso of guitar playing a virtuoso
Picasso was a thief.
that double bass drum kick sound is so ahead of its time by Mitch!
Bro had to be to Coolest Mthfka on the Planet‼️😎🌎💫🎸🤘🏾🤘
Nobody can make a guitar talk like Jimi.
Nobody got it or since..where jimi was coming from no one has got close too.miss him so bad❤
This is the guy who started Heavy Metal. At least planted the seed.
Jimi and blue cheer
Planted the seed I agree, but there's a reason Black Sabbath are considered the originators, they not only made it heavy but also dark and evil sounding and dressed in all black etc, the opposite of the flower power movement that was all about peace and love. Tony Iommi was most certainly influenced by Jimi though, he even had a white Stratocaster in the early days and is left handed like Jimi
1:27 if that's not headbanging...I don't know what is haha
That would be Black Sabbath. Jimi had his own unique sound, but not once did it cross into the Metal genre that had yet to be established. He leaned more towards hard rock.
@@JourneyJankings That’s the mainstream opinion.
Guitar sounds like bloody murder!!! Amazing, the greatest ever...
I like how jiggles the standby switch on the Marshall, turns around and then saunters over by Mitch. Then he really gets down to business.
Every time I've watched this over the past 40+ years I make the most grimacing guitar faces you can imagine. If you don't FEEL this, you're dead.
Joy!

Got to love Mitchs' drumming!

WOW TIMELESS,Was at FEST,No One COMES any where NEAR 🎶🎶🎸 Thank you MASTER
in the 90's, I had this show on vhs. I ALWAYS listened to this song while I was washing the dishes....
Reb Beach once said Jimi needs to tune his guitar . Being so disrespectful he wouldn't have existed without Jimi his hair metal band ain't shit couldn't even tell you the name of the band . To tell you the truth Jimi didn't have a lock down nut or a tremolo or wammy bar that would stay in tune if you used it like Jimi dude like where is he now ? Nowhere . Jimi is a legend unlike Reb Beach best song he played on was Uncle Tom's cabin screw all there other songs watching Jimi don't even compare
POW !!
So true
Good, that we had the messiah of stratocasta! The Experience!
the man with the guitar.. unbelievable 🎸
Hommage to the shaman musicien,so few musiciens spoke like that from the soul.this performance is from another world, what d he have done after that ,cosmic music...he died a few days after.
David Gilmour is the sound guy at this show.
Otherworldly expression
Wow and just a couple weeks later….gone forever 😢
There was a bright young boy at that concert, blooming after it. His name was Robert Smith, The Cure.
this is soo cool. It's a 22 minute song. the video ends just before a nice semi-long drum solo. Where Jimi starts playing Race With The Devil. the song ends when News Radio broadcasts come over the PA system, ruining the solemn Vietnam vibe.
In my opinion it makes it better and adds to it.
Yeah, imagine how it would have been if Jimi could have let his fuzz pedal on! He had to switch it off because something in his rig was playing the security talkies into the PA.
Damn! Machine Gun with wah, Octavia and Uni-Vibe, but no Fuzz Face. And yet, during the quiet segment, when he looks at Mitch, plays that low E minor nodding his head, followed by the pattern D, E...D, E, then a second low Em nodding again, and that A,B,D,B,G,B! (everything is a full step down, though, I guess, but you see what I mean if you play the guitar) and then repeat, with variation. That segment, it gives me goose bumps every time. It's if the guy was lamenting in the middle of a battlefield covered with bodies and cried "Oh... Oh no... Oh, no... Oh... my God, I just can't believe it!", in front of a battlefield." Immense artist. No doubt.
I used to have a bootleg of this show on VHS, haven't watched it in many moons, still knew it to a T. Like seeing an old friend. The sad thing is seeing this show as compared to Montery, you could see how the toll his hectic career, as brief as it, was, took on him. He was a casulty of the music business, & the savagery that comes with it...
Got here because of Joe!! Thanks Rick!!
Same here 😀 FANTASTIC 😀
Why can't I find the entire song, and red house from this performance. I had the LP and wish I still did. Unreal to watch him. Never once looks at that guitar. As if it were part of his internal organs
The song that made Miles Davis want to play with Hendrix. Not sure if that ever happened?
Why couldn't he live longer or why couldn't I be there😒
Jimi is pretty much going with the flow, or creating the flow. Amazing creativity.
I wish there were no Vesperax tablets around on 9/17-9/18/70. Jimi might be alive today. RIP Jimi.
