2001 Porsche 986 Boxster S | Don't Hate It Until You Drive It

  • The Porsche 986 Boxster S is a very interesting car for the brand. It turned out to be an unexpected hit for the famous auto manufacturer and pulled the company from the verge of bankruptcy. Fast forward nearly 20 years later, how does this little two door, mid engined roadster drive? I'm pleased to say it's way more entertaining than you would probably expect, and given its laughably cheap price tag, this is a ton of car for the money! This example I reviewed today is featured in the signature white exterior over a navy blue interior with a navy blue soft top, and it only has 30,000 miles! Please leave a thumbs up and subscribe to this channel for more awesome content!

I was enjoying this video and your analysis up unto the point when you said it's an an"automatic"......
Big pause like what!? Having a 2002, 3.2 liter 986 Boxster S myself I always find it interesting to hear other people's opinions when trying out the car.
That said.... the car being tested/experienced should always be a "manual", preferably an S imo...
The 986 S with a six speed is pure gold when it comes to true sports car driving; the platform remains at the very top for sports cars, decades after its launch...😁

Hi there, most interesting I have a 6 speed manual 986s but with a twist we did a full tear down restoration and upgrade regardless of cost nearly everything was replaced or upgraded from 996, 997 and gt3 even blueprinted engine to 4.0ltr 420bhp and capristo full sport valvetronic exhaust system its rather very fast the ideal sleeper Jon UK.

I own an 01 Boxster S in Silver and black interior. 6 speed is the way to go.
I’ve owned it for 12 years and it’s just the most fun in a roadster I’ve ever had.
I want to buy another 986 S with high miles. With this one, I want to drop an Ls engine into it.
Can u say “hot rod sleeper Boxster”.

  • @gary_michael_flanagan_wildlife

Question for you bro. I have a C6 Z06 and boy is it fast and handles well, but it doesn’t have that fun feel of my older mini Cooper I used to own. The mini you could throw it around turns easier without dying lol. Is the Porsche boxter more similar to the mini in terms of handling? I’ve debated getting another mini but am looking at these too. I know I’m comparing a front wheel drive car to a totally different setup. Just curious if the boxter has that fun factor I missed about the mini. Thanks!

I had an e46 zhp convertible years ago and now I have a 986 boxster S. The bmw does not even remotely compare to the Porsche. My old bmw was great but it was so much heavier and had so much more chassis flex. The Porsche is……. Well it’s a Porsche.

the only advice i can give u children is
if your ever lucky enough to get your hands on one of these
from 1999 to 2004 grab it!! snatch it! buy it!!
its a great super car and never sell it ..never
u will always get more than what u paid for it!
    i bought my 2000 boxster 2.7 new in 1999
its 2021 now and i still have it!!!
oh sure.. i have a electric car
a benz 4matic for the winter driving
but my boxster aint goin any where!!!
people do alot of stupid things
and selling this car is one of them!
and the regret of selling it will haunt you!
oh by the way! u want the manual stick shift
wayyy better ride than any BMW

The biggest mistake with the auto is it starts off in second gear in drive.why on gods earth would you do that.at least have an option like other cars they have a summer/winter button.i know many people who didnt buy the just for that reason me included

All Porsches are galvanized. So they don't RUST.
I have SMASHED my 986s for the last 5 yrs, without any issues.
They take 100,000 miles to break the ENGINES in -That's a Fact.
They are extremely easy to replace parts for. And you can do all the work yourself.
IT'S A NO BRAINER.....Top down. Windows down. just go.

I owned one and it’s a blast to drive! The biggest issue with the 986 and 996 is the IMS bearing failure and is the biggest reason why the value has hit rock bottom. Super fun car though!
