Having heard the drama CD myself, it was funny hearing a version of Kaine that was proper and polite. Also funny that the gestalt versions of the main cast managed to meet each other somehow. And I don't know how a beserk Emil work either, so spinning Emil seems about right.
Haha, I just picture Emil spinning around in circles staring at people as they turn into statues. Going off my memory, there's no beam or anything crazy looking that comes from Emils eyes when he petrifies people. So yeah, just Emil looking at people as they scream while turning to stone is a funny image
@@FatToDaCatI imagine him losing control like Cyclops from X-Men, or Billy Butcher getting superpowers for the first time in season 3 of The Boys: Just Magic Beam Gaze all over the place. 😅
The fact there’s so much lore and other media to Nier shows how much there is to the themes and meaning of the games. The best though is how Drakengard and Nier are set in the same timeline/universe, because some of those connections and similarities is just mindmelting. Given the art style of Isle of Cards, I’m guessing it’s set around the time of Drakengard 3 or 1, but we’ll see. Also, I’m dying for Taro to do a prequel to Nier but a sequel to Drakengard 1 so we could see the beginning of WCS, the Legion war, the remains of Angelus and Caim, and the slow destruction of Japan and the world.
Think about this: drakengard is the sequel to nier. "this is the land of the gods?" at ending E in drakengard makes a lot of sense if they travel back in time instead to another dimension, because it is actually the land of their gods, and pacts might be an evolution of yorha black boxes 🤔
@@IvanLuky I thinks it's kind of a Meta narrative. They traveled to what we would perceive as the real world, the people who created the game live here and are therefore their gods

I love these videos, I never knew the characters had actually met before the main story, and I had no idea that red eye was killed inside the mansion nor that it was kaine who killed him.
They can make a whole new game using that audio novel's script. That plot, sometimes, is even better than Nier Replicant's main story. Right now, with the wider fanbase achieved by Automata, this can happen if Square-Enix helps.
There is like a solid 3+ games worth of content between all of the "side" Nier/Drakenguard related content. I don't know of another series that is like this.
Stumbled upon your channel around a week ago, right after I got every ending besides E in replicant. You make amazing videos and it's a shame you only have 12K subs
Really love this *before they were famous/infamous* Nier backstory material. Shame that Drama CDs were never a thing over here, but at least I have my Jun Eishima/Yoko Taro books from Square Enix and Viz Media, and the two over-sized hardcover guide books from Square Enix, covering the Automata side of things. If anybody can point me towards anything similar covering Nier Gestalt/Replicant and Drakengard, I could add those to my lore library. Yes, I like books. EDIT: We know now from Nier Replicant 1.22 that replicant Kaine is a *singularity* but nothing directly indicates whether her pre-Gestaltization form had those properties... unless the fact that all the main characters from later, gathering together in this Audio CD, counts as some kind of timeline *bookmark* being placed on them.
I appreciate all that you do, and believe it or not it was your lore explanation videos that made me go back and actually finish the games! I never really gave them a chance before but thanks to how you present them and let the viewer know whats happening, well you made a new fan of both the franchise as well as yourself my friend. I restrained myself from watching any Nier story videos until I finished both Automata and OG Nier. I finished Replicant in a week after they lifted Denuvo and can finally watch all those videos connecting two of my most favourite games of all time; and it only gets better.
love the work you put into these videos. been enjoying them a lot. Nier has fast become one of , if not my favourite franchise, and these are so great to delve into the backstory of everything.
Haven't watched all the way through the video yet, but I guarantee this will probably answer some of the questions I have about Kaine. One of which being, why did everyone hate her? She seems normal enough to me, minus Tyrann, and that was before the shade showed up, so it doesn't really make sense to me. Hopefully I'll get some answers here. Edit: I think it answered my question? I'm guessing it's that Legion stuff in her that causes everyone in the Aerie to not trust, or despise her.
The short stories also explicitly address that Kaine is hermaphroditic / has a penis which freaks out the other villagers. That's also why the kids say she's only "pretending" to be a girl and why the grandma emphasizing that she's pretty and her granddaughter was so meaningful! Sorry if you already knew that, but it never addresses it directly in the games so I thought you might not!
@@mountainhorse9419 i've only just finished replicant in the last couple of weeks and was wondering if that's what was alluded to in the game. it really seemed like it, but wasn't ever stated specifically what her 'differences' were. thanks for the info.
Love your videos on NieR! I really like that you talk about all the lore. I found out about Automata a long time ago and my first dip into the franchise was back when I was 12 or so, I played NieR Gestalt on the Wii for a bit. So later on when I found Automata I watched Valkyrie Aurora's videos on the game since I couldn't buy it. All your work really helps me feel like I've experienced the game and the lore is really interesting, not to mention the great soundtrack! Thank you.
I played Automata back in 2017 which was my first entry in the series. I was aware of this but waited 'til Ending E before looking into the history of the franchise and its lore. I have just started Route C of Replicant and the extra insight Route B gave Kaine was cool, but raised a question: Is it just her current Replicant body that had the ... erm.. "issue", or are all her Replicants sporting extra... "baggage"? Skimmed some of the stories relating to her and knew she was a sort of a clone from her Granparents even as a human, but had no idea that she had interacted with the cast back before the nukings of Honshu. Sort of like "meeting each other again in the afterlife".
As a fan of the Drakengard, Nier series I wish the drama city was like DLC to replicate imagine it footage from "Sky of the end" to "I promise of 1,000 years" the last two chapters sure that could be caused DLC and we can see the aliens leading into automata.
Another interesting video, thanks 🙏 On a side note, where did you find the desert theme track from Nier Automata? I've looked for it, but can only find the vocalized version.
As much as I love Yoko Taro and his games. He’s treating Nier like Square treats Kingdom Hearts and that I don’t like. He’s dropping important bits of lore in stage plays, audiobooks, artbooks, mobile games, etc.. Then when a new game comes out, you’d be confused as to how the story turned out this way, all because you didn’t watch his stage plays.
He is dropping important lore pieces in other medias, but you're exaggerating, you don't need to know any of these lore pieces to understand what's going on in the games and to understand them and the point they're trying to get across. In Nier Replicant/Gestalt, you don't even need to play drakengars to understand it, sure you may not know what the dragon or the queen beast are, but you don't need to know that to understand everything that came after that and what they caused that was relevant to the game. Similarly in Automata, you don't need to play Replicant/Gestalt to understand, you have a summary of what caused the events in Automata to take place in the game already. These lore pieces are only important to nerds who want to know every single detail there is about the Nier/drakengard universes, but at no point will you be confused in these games even if you didn't play they're prequels.
fuck yes dude thank you so much, i just found out about this audio drama with the remaster and couldnt find a good translation for it anywhere, godbless
The appeal of a drama CD is very similar to listening to a youtuber go over a plot of something, it can be nice to listen to while traveling, doing stuff around the house etc.
Tyrann is such an asshole and I fucking love him XD The fact that he's a descendant of _Nero_ from the dark as hell Drakengard 3 manga makes it even better, partly because of how fitting it is, and partly because it cements the fact that the NieR and Drakengard worlds aren't separate universes, but instead the same world looping in on itself.
The story arc built around those raids is also known as YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse, and has some *interesting* guest characters. I quite like the way they fit various concepts together there... I won't spoil anything, but IMHO it is one of the best collabs I have ever seen involving Yoko Taro's works.
