All of the girls in the Danganronpa series are very special in my opinion. EXCEPT for MONACA TOWA. Monaca Towa is just an spoiled brat that just wants to follow in Junko Enoshima’s footsteps but ultimately gave up when caught in the Future Arc of Danganronpa 3: the end of Hopes Peak high school.

I've posted this comment elsewhere before, but I'll post this again here for its relevance to the video.
I like Chiaki, but I definitely concede with the fact that she is a Mary Sue. Think about it: She has a large rack; she is incredibly proficient in video games; apparently, she is able to apply her gaming expertise in reality to know how to solve mysteries, fight, and likely drive or handle armament; she's intelligent; she's kind; even after she's dead, she has a lasting influence on the MC and the others; she's everything a guy could possibly want. There are no flaws to her. Even when there is a downside to her, it always could turn out as cute or anything like that. She is *too* good. That personally brings her down to me by a few points. Characters that are pushed more in favor of others, and are clearly more one-sided don't really deserve to be called the best. Flaws make a character good and relatable to the player, the way I see it. Chiaki is not one of them. In any way you see it, she's a bar none Mary Sue.
Shameless plug here btw, Ibuki is best girl. She's an opposite to Chiaki in many ways now that I think about it, and that conversely makes her the most humble to take gold.
Agreed. Although, I'm kinda hesitant to use the term Mary Sue because it has been tossed around so much these days so carelessly and it's not that much of an argument when used as the only excuse, but I do feel the same way. Likable characters, at least to me, need to be more balanced. I don't care if she's an A.I., if you are gonna give her positive human characteristics, you might as well give her something negative that doesn't loop back to being cute and endearing.
I can only take so much good stuff/bad stuff within a character before I stop caring about them entirely. Even when she died, it left very little impact in me. It's weird because she has done SO much within the story and yet I felt nothing when she left. (Although her execution was kickass)

CMW1995 I'm also not fond of calling Chiaki a Mary Sue either because it makes it imply that I don't like her very much. It's not that I don't like her, it's just that she has too many upbringings that make her the character that is as popular as she is. Again, compared to Chiaki, Ibuki is a character that in turn is amazing. Taking the time to understand her and analyze what isn't present at face value shows what a truly layered character she is. Danganronpa 2 on the other hand revolves practically around Chiaki towards the end of the game. The anime also does this, which is sad because the rest of the other characters bluntly get pushed aside as fodder. If there's anything wrong about DR2, it's the fact that the game put Chiaki and Nagito too much in the limelight. It's a shame considering DR2's cast felt more like a family than all of the others, and arguably had the most diverse cast.
Very true. I haven't seen the anime yet, but from people's reactions to it, it sounds hilarious.
Anyway, while I do agree that both Komaeda and Chiaki get too much screentime and overshadow the others, at the very least, I can say that Komaeda has a big role to play. So does Chiaki, but her portrayal wasn't done nearly as well. Komaeda was somewhat of an antagonist/partner/foil to the main character that he can relate to some degree and causes conflict with the others. Not to mention, Komaeda has a very complicated mindset and at least his moments are meant to give us insight on how his point of view works and how much he's willing to go. I mean hey, if you're gonna give a character screentime, make sure they use it to their advantage and use that time wisely. I think Komaeda's screentime, while a bit much, at least shares a lot about his insane thought process. With Chiaki's screentime, they share basically nothing about her til the end. She just gets to be the useful partner/cutiepie. Sure, her FTEs mentions tidbits about her character but they certainly didn't carry my interest. All she consists of in her free time were games, cute sleeping spells and naivety. And maybe some cute flirting with Hajime. I'm sorry if I sound unfair, but that's all I can remember in her FTEs. Yeah, I remember her mentioning her father as a programmer but that's about it.
CMW1995 I definitely agree with you. Nagito in contrast to Chiaki is a fantastic character. Even if he did have lots of screentime compared to the others, I absolutely loved every moment he was shown up to his crazy antics. I would go as far to say that Nagito has become as a somewhat icon/poster child for the series. He represents Danganronpa to a tee, and I love the guy for that (shameless plug btw, Nagito for Smash lol) Chiaki on the other hand... well... I think we're all on the same page here. The evidence is there to certainly prove that she's a blatantly made great character with little to no flaws. Great characters begin with being relatable to their audience, but she was never able to struck that chord. Some people like that, so to each their own I suppose. To me, however, Chiaki just never genuinely deserved that popularity and affection from her fans. But hey, I'm happy that someone like Ibuki also has her hefty fanbase to her name. She is someone that sincerely deserves every bit of that amount of support!
About the anime... Yeah! It's great! It's not for everyone, but I can say for sure that it was a treat! Seeing everyone in motion, and seeing the events that transpired before and after the games was such a thrill! There's something for everyone in it. The fanservice alone is worth a watch.
Tbf she is a program based on Chiaki from D3, and D3 Chiaki is a lot less outgoing for the first couple episodes, but over time develops into being the figurehead of her whole class, which is why Junko targeted her to kill.

My top girl is Sonia! She's very sweet and I like all her weird, off key interests. She's also very reliable, and somewhat predictable, which I personally take some comfort in. Same goes for Mahiru! I would put Mahiru below Mikan, but that's probably because I like Mikan as a character even if I wouldn't really like knowing her in person and the same can't be said of Photo Girl. Also I give Mikan more retrospective credit than she probably deserves because we were robbed of a proper Mikan murder that could have been so good. Also Mikan is *significantly* more physically attractive.
Still, D2 really feels like the Persona 4 of the Danganronpa series: like one person who can actually be considered a good waifu and a small few others who could be considered "okay".
Yeah, but thats for a reason, before the shitfest of dr3 the in game canon reason as to how they became the remnants is that they were manipulated by junko, she preyed on their insecurities and character flaws and thats not something you can do with mostly good characters with no significant flaws like kirigiri or sakura, hence chiaki.

You summed up the same problems I had with Akane; most guys just aren't man enough to handle her, myself included. But in my case, Mahiru and Chiaki are polarized. I used to be the same camp. She's seemed underwhelming at first glance, but I quickly realized there's something very intense and sensual about Mahiru, and any girl who's flying the Ms. Independent banner gets an A* in my ranks. She also proved to me how affectionate photography can be. Capturing and keeping the feelings of a single moment; it's a romantic idea, and she has some really tender moments in the game.
On the opposite side, no.1 player's choice Chiaki may be, but her obvious 'waifu'ness made her too shallow for me to like. I get her appeal, but I'd be waiting behind a very long line of guys if I wanted to get to that signing booth. Suffice to say, she isn't for me. Besides, is it not the essence of the gamer to avoid the madding crowd? I'd favour a redhead personally, or I'd wait to see if Ibuki was walking around if I wanted an easier difficulty.

Mikan has reasons the way she is and so does Mahiru so maybe you should’ve done research first.
While I mostly agree with the list, I was really mad on how you placed Ibuki. While this is partially because she's my favorite character in all of the games, I have other reasons. First of all, you decided that she wasn't as a good waifu as before, just based on her performance. If she's a good waifu, then why would you care about her singing abilities? I recently replayed Danganronpa 2, and on the part where she was doing her performance, I personally didn't think it was that bad. Maybe there was a version where the song was sung in English, however, when I listened to the Japanese version (which I assume was how it was normally, since my audio was set to English), I personally thought the singing was really good. I'm not really a fan of the heavy metal genre, but Ibuki's singing was really good. But let's just say that you disagree with me on how well she sings. So what? Her musical ability shouldn't effect how good of a waifu she is. Also, you gave Sonia a betting waifu rating then Ibuki. I'm not saying that Sonia is bad, and I love her character, but the way you described her waifu potential was what threw me off. You said that Sonia would be a bad waifu because you would have to become the prince of the Novoselic kingdom. While Novoselic is a crazy place, wouldn't that cause Sonia to have a worse position on the list? You even said that Ibuki had an amazing personality, but you decided that she wasn't as good of a waifu just because of your opinion of her musical ability.

I just assumed that Ibuki was sucking at her concert because she was just only starting out her new musical style. Can't be good at something that you're not used to. We've been told that she left her pop group but it didn't specify whether that happened recently or not (at least not from what I remember) and I just thought she didn't have the chance to practice it much before getting stuck on the island. Or at least, didn't get any second opinions from friends.

You should see island modes. It fleshes the "waifus" a bit more, and even the worse ones. It's basically a big upgrade for the characters.

Mikan shouldnt be this low on the list simply because of the factor of protective instinct. She got abused pretty hard, almost beyond the point of return, but that doesnt mean shes a bad person even though she can be annoying.
I think Akane should be lower because shes stupid. Thats the least attractive thing a person can be.

I’m gonna put my top favorite sdr2 girls because why not. I don’t dislike any of them, just that I like some more than others so yeah.
8. Peko Pekoyama. She’s a well-written character, I just never really felt anything for her outside of the second trial, and that was mostly because of Fuyuhiko.
7. It was super hard to choose between this one and 6th, but Sonia Nevermind takes the cake. Similarly to Peko, I barely ever connected with her, though I did like her free time events and she’s funny.
6. Chiaki Nanami, surprised? I don’t know, she’s just too perfect. She and Sonia are practically tied. While she is cute, kind, etc; she doesn’t have any negative traits that aren’t turned into a positive attractive light. The only reason I started to like her was because of a fanfiction called: “SDR2: Matsuda Yasuke’s battle of despair and wits”
5. Mikan Tsumiki. She’s a good girl and I love her. I could go on about her character for over five minutes but I won’t because I’m lazy. Point is, her free time events and Island mode made me like her because it showed me why she was like this. But the main reason I even tried to look into her character more was how she acted in trial 3, holy fuck did I love her there!
4. Ibuki Mioda. She’s so fun and a meme. Originally, she’d be close to the bottom of this list, although I watched Weeby’s analysis video on her and it made me realize that her character is actually layered. Yeah, she’s great.
3. Hiyoko, aka: the Ultimate Ant Serial Killer. I wanted to hate her, but I was amused and entertained by her behavior instead, though of course, I would despise her in real life. Though she, like Ibuki, also would be close to the bottom if I not only had watched Weeby Newz’s analysis video on her, but played her FTE. Seriously, whenever a character takes out strong emotions of either positive or negative emotions of me, I *usually* take that as a good sign.
2. Mahiru Koizumi. I was surprised to like her, considering I can’t stand sexist comments. What sold her to me was her cute ass free time events. I liked learning about her and was almost sold to Hinata X Mahiru.
And last but not least, the second most disliked DR2 girl of the fandom!
1. Akane Owari. Just,,,not only is she funny and, many times, a mood, her free time events sold me to her. They’re literally one of my top 5 favorites from the whole franchise. I might even honestly consider her as one of my candidates for DR best girl.
