The Warp Effect just isn't the same in modern Trek. To see the visual effect, and actually hear the power of the engines accelerating, just gives the impression of pure power!
Well done, got the look just right. One thing I really appreciate about TMP is how well the effects really do hold up, especially the Enterprise. Latter movies, particularly 3 and beyond, make her too 'bright'. TMP makes it look like a ship that's actually traveling thru the darkness of space with only her running lights for self illumination. You got that perfect.
I’m building the polar lights 1/1000 version now & it’s almost complete. The Tamiya pearl white paint is beautiful & the aztec & kit decals are striking. It’s gonna be stunning in my curio cabinet next to my 1/1000 original series enterprise. Starting the 1/1000 Reliant next! 🖖🏼
Trek 1,2 3 & 6 will always be my favorites and, to me, The Motion Picture is the best! I know, I know many people say its too slow, too boring and "KHAN !" is the best Trek film EVER. Perhaps so, but in 1979 when I first saw this film, everything about it was MAGNIFICENT, everything was NEW. The Enterprise herself with those slanted warp pylons, unbelievable!! The original series and the first 6 movies will always be MY STAR TREK! A great big THANK-YOU to this company that knows how to IMPROVE a film NOT destroy it.
100% agree. When I first saw ST:TWoK I remember being somewhat disappointed because it looked so cheap in comparison to ST:TMP, didn't like the set redesigns, costumes, score or story that basically destroyed the ending of "Space Seed". I appreciate it much more now, although still not as much as ST:TMP.
@nicholasmaude6906 I'm still not a fan, but I believe that they probably were better for action sequences and when the actors got older and some lost their trim shapes. Those skin- tight uniforms from TMP would not have looked good at all.
@@JoseyWales44s "Those skin- tight uniforms from TMP would not have looked good at all." Scotty post-TMP would've looked terrible in his TMP uniform after he packed on the pounds (Probably after stuffing his face with haggis between the ST-I&II).
Oh My GOD the best warp effect ever... the stretching of the Enterprise.... the rainbow with the defined hole denoting subspace... the Enterprise entering into subspace... and emerging intact into Warp 8 was so beautiful. Warp is seen as the big transition that it is. Not just something to be said as you go beyond comprehensible speeds. Bravo HIKE project. If only this warp effect was standard.
A lot of people really hated those TMP uniforms, but I really liked them. Kind of pajama-like, lol. HIKE, great animation on the Atai-class shuttle, warp sled, and, OF COURSE, The Enterprise! Fantastic warp speed animation!
Those who don't like these uniforms are not fans of the original series. The refit Enterprise is undeniably the best version of the Enterprise and one of the most successful spaceship designs.
@ Well received by who ? Those who criticize them aren't fans of the original series, they're mainly people in the general public, unaccustomed to science fiction and Star Trek, the same people who call Spock, Dr. Spock. Who gives a damn if the pants are black or not?
I wish they'd kept that uniform style longer. Far more practical than the suits they wore in the other movies. When Spock, leaves the bridge, Kirk and Bones convey so much with just looking at each other. You know what they're thinking. Great acting and screenplay.
The best is still the soundtrack! Your work is again excellent. Nothing more to say, enjoyed both the effects as well as the scenes and the soundtrack.
So many people give out about the MOTIONLESS MOVIE. I don't get it, from the 60s show to a major movie .A big jump or leap ? Again, BRILLIANT WORK THANK YOU. WARP DRIVE MAGIC 😊😊 KEEP IT UP. 🎉
Imagine that, using just an affordable and reasonably powerful PC, someone sufficiently skilled with inexpensive or free FX programs can literally redo all the external shots of spaceships, alien worlds, space battles for any sci-fi movie in the past, modernizing them for today’s audience’s sensibility. Heck, using AI, the old BW movies can be colorized quickly without much effort. We are indeed on the cusp of a new revolution of revisionism cinema.
@Viewfinderrr YES, that's it right there! That's another reason why I love The Motion Picture. The Enterprise, she's out there all alone in the blackness of space, NO SUN! But we see her because she lights her own way, MAGNIFICENT!!

I wish they had been a bit more explicit about why they're so surprised Spock is there. "We haven't seen or heard from you in years, Spock... I thought you really had left for good..." Something like that. Not go too much into it, but just give the audience a little more to go on.
At the beginning of the movie we see Spock failing his Kolinahr test, and in the sequence after this we get the full explanation. Spock sensed the cloud's mind patterns, and believes an answer for himself may await for him over there.

It just occurred to me, why Spock was more somber and emotionless than he usually is. He just gave up everything he has been working towards, his whole life, just to help Cpt. Kirk. Remember, Vulcans DO have feelings, they just control them exceptionally well.
Spock “felt” V’ger coming right at his ceremony end at the beginning of the movie. All the agonizing years he spent on Vulcan purging all emotion to become purely logical were lost in a moment of weakness. His medals were left on the ground. He failed because shards of emotion were obviously still in him. Spock wanted to know what caused that from so far away. Kirk was just a means to an end at this point.
Star Trek 2,4 with 3 and 6 are my favourite films while 1and 5 - remain two of the disliked films of the original cast films. I still hold these films as listed as the best four out of the 6.
beautifully done. if there's a nitpick to be had i'd have to say the seconds when the main viewing screen is showing the galaxy from outside the galaxy when they start going to warp was a bit jolting and didn't make a lot of sense. other than that i'd say its about perfect.
Just a technical question. Where is the Warp Core for the Warp Sled? Is it in the sled itself or is it decoupled when the shuttle detaches with it? There just doesn't seem like there is enough room in the sled to house a core along with any amount deuterium and anti-deuterium fuel. Nice work by the way.
The most beautiful version of Enterprise, period. Second place, FOR ME, would have to be the one from Kelvin timeline. I realize most die-hard fans will hate me for this, but I discovered my love for Star Trek, ironically, through the 2009 remake. That version of NCC 1701 was the first I ever saw. Ironically, it is also extremely reminiscent of the refit from the video above. Third place, 1701-E.
Your work, as always is beyond superb. I wish a little reality could seep into Star Trek in general, like the Vulcan transport flip: so unnecessary. The vessel need only have ceased motion aft of the warp engine nacelles, yawed 180° and docked; the whole pitchover looked inane in 1979 and hasn’t improved with age. When TNG first aired, they made an effort to Doppler shift the D and stars passing the vessel, bluing them as they approached the camera, reddening as they departed a shot. IMH left-brained O, a vessel going to warp speed should appear to rapidly move away, shifting from normal color, reddening from a light cast, to full red to black without all the other light effects, just nacelles blazing, possibly with a spatial distortion bubble opening and collapsing like a Bird of Prey cloaking. A ship accelerating to a warp, like we see in this clip after Spock’s engine tweak would show a bubble distortion effect bulge into the shot with the Enterprise, as it matches the camera velocity enter frame black or deep violet, then quickly shifting through fading blues to normal color. Since the ship and camera POV are only slightly mismatched as it pulls ahead, no color shift is really needed but it could be kinda cool if the subspace bubble distortion of the starfield in background tapered off behind it. I myself wouldn’t do so much with the engines themselves, as a big gripe with nearly any science fiction vessel in film to moi is an abundance of GNDN Christmas lights all over (which, in my 13th summer, ruined 2001: A Space Odyssey for me, as I bought into the “realism” hype leading up to its release back in ‘68.) But if I had your equipment and talent, I’d do it myself. Problem is, even if I possessed the equipment, software, and files to do the job, skills and abilities like yours, you can’t buy, so my stuff would look like crap, regardless. Which is why we all tune into you! Thanks for sharing your amazing work!❤
I found it odd the Vulcan shuttle pod had to do that weird tumble to dock with the port. Why couldn't the pod have simply rotated about its z axis instead of that gymnastic trick?
