  • Field & Forest recently received a SARE Grant to study Wine Cap and its role in soil health. We are creating a video series to share the information on what we'll be doing, what we'll be looking for, and eventually findings from the study.
For the first video we'll be covering the basics of what we are doing and what we are looking for. Further videos to come!

***EDIT: This video is a repost of our first video to meet SARE guidelines

Thank you for sharing this! I grow wine caps in wood chips and I grow tomatoes in no til soil/compost but have never considered the two together. Can’t wait for your updates.

I have winecap beds around all of my grapevines and apple trees and I no longer need any fertilizer. I just have to keep adding woodchips because the winecaps consume a huge amount of woodchips

We need more studies on mushroom companion growing like this!

This is awesome! Looking forward to the future updates. I'd like to introduce this practice to local urban farmers for soil remediation on their plots

Absolutely wonderful! Thank you so much! It’s only my observations but since introducing winecap to my gardens I’m noticing these benefits with all my fruit and vegetables. I designed the gardens in a market garden style but instead of the typical wood chip pathways I made them all winecap beds kind of encasing the veg and fruit beds. I was hoping to see things like I am but I also wanted to hold moisture and soak up a lot of moisture as it’s a very wet site. I got the idea after reading Mycelium Running by Paul Stamets and I had followed a youtube channel “ Edible Acres “ that inspired me to try this when designing my gardens. RUclips recommended your video to me. Obviously I have liked and subscribed and will look forward to hearing about your future studies. I absolutely love winecap in my garden and all my plants do too! Thank you so much! 😁🌱💚🙏✨🍄

I am preparing to make my first wine cap spawn bags. I have never made them and can't find much information on what to put in the bag. Is it just hardwood sawdust in the bag or is it sawdust and some nutrient ( like wheat bran)? Thank you!
