Pre physical/special split with crazy speed & special attack and very early access to the elemental is very, very powerful. Then u add only 3 types resist or are immune to psychic leads to a quick run
Kinda funny how Alakazam is still pretty good in Gen 2, despite the Dark types and the Special Split. Even Kadabra and Abra are legitimate threats with easy access to the elemental punches. The elemental punches alone gave them a beeg boost. And, the Dark type roster isn’t nearly as popular as later Gens. The only real concern is just Snorlax. It might reach 1:32ish at 0 resets and good luck.
Darn, we don't get to see hours of teleporting into struggle here. ^_^ I definitely had a good feeling about Alakazam in gen 2, the elemental punches are incredible for it in this game, and only this one.
My favorite Pokémon! I know it’s OP before gen 4 but I always loved using kadabra because I couldn’t trade it lol. Love all the elemental punches and psychic.
Hey Colin, thanks for the compliments! Umbreon will be out in January or February, in a video alongside Espeon - I'm ironing out the finer details, but I reckon I've got a good idea with how I want to do it.
Before watching: having done a kadabra run:this thing as 2 opponents. Karen's houndoom (you should be overleveled enough to just thunderpunch the Rocket executive's doggo) and red's Snorlax. All other pokemon are victims. So it will be a very fast run
Awesome run man! 1 thing though... why you deleted Confusion for Psybeam instead having both (Could've saved pokecenter stop(s) to save some time there)?
I knew I was getting the punches in Goldenrod, and to save my brain from completely melting there, I decided to just overwrite the weaker Psychic-type move - by the time PP becomes an issue, we'd have forgotten Confusion regardless, as we'd have needed an extra punch or two. It's good thinking, though, and in other runs where I can learn a move before a giant run of trainers (such as the Radio Tower), I'll definitely keep your comment in mind!
@@Squidgy Exactly what I meant indeed. Pp can be an issue later on. You can always delete Confusion later ofcourse. Having both confusion and psybeam could save you a pokecenter stop (because of pp) and thus saves (a little bit) time
Thanks, bud! Snorlax will be coming at some point soon, but I don't have a fixed date quite yet. He'll be a Just the Battles Pokémon, and I have a couple of slots where he could go - I'll see what my schedule's like and try to slot him in this month!
I feel like your alakazam is that one kid that grew up in a house with two scientist parents and decided he wanted to be a MMA fighter with how many punches he threw throughout this run.
That depends on IF it starts with Confusion/any attack moves at all if it doesn't its useless until it dies and Thief as a TM sucks for it to learn since its a PHYSICAL hit and even Abra itself has a crappy crappy Physical hit stats.
The moment you get to Goldenrod you just wanna get fire punch and keep that learned untill the elite 4, because obviously you can handle Chuck, Price and Jasmine, then as you did aswell you wanna learn ice punch in place of disable, but still keep fire punch for that Magneton If I missed anything where persé need thunder punch for, let me know, but untill the e4 you won't really need to forget fire punch
Hey can you a special Alola Muk run. He would have similar move set to Muk with dark moves of bite, crunch and shadow ball and minus ground moves, no thunder and Thunderbolt (going off the Gen 7)
I would love to, but I'd need to ask some favours from some people far cleverer than I am in order to make it happen - leave it with me, and I'll see what I can do in the new year :)
Alakazam would be at a faster time if Thinderpunch was given priority over fire punch against red since Venusaur is part poison, Psychic would do better 😭
Good question - as weak as she is, I have a real soft spot for Janine. She's clearly out of her depth and trying her best while maintaining a positive attitude, and I kinda like that
Oh, same! Whenever I do a regular playthrough of an older Pokémon game, I shove it through the Universal Pokémon Randomizer just to turn on easier trades.

Not entirely certain if recover is a good move at this point in the game I really wish there was a move relearner in Gen. 2

To be fair, you can get them late game in emerald.
@@iododendron3416 They're only in the battle frontier though so they're never useful ingame, only for competitive and stuff
You're killing it this week!
19:00 unreal.
My favorite Pokémon! I know it’s OP before gen 4 but I always loved using kadabra because I couldn’t trade it lol. Love all the elemental punches and psychic.
This run proves how overpowered the Gen 2 Elemental Punches were - being all special attacks!
Alakazam did great - just as expected!
They really are incredibly overpowered in Gen 2 - I can see why they weren't in the Department Store in Gen IV!
Very good time from Alakazam. The elemental punches are so good.
I knew Alakazam would be great! 💪🏾
Great job Squidgy!
Despite one sand attack, you didn't miss any attacks on any of Sabrina's Pokemon! Nice!
I'm pleasantly surprised. I thought Karen would cause enough trouble for Porygon2 to keep the throne, but I was wrong.
AlakaSLAMing that leaderboard. Well, the punches being TMs and Special Moves might play a part in that
This run has been a great distraction, today has been quite rough on my mental, so I'm happy I had something to occupy my mins
I'm sorry to hear you're not feeling too good, bud. Hopefully things look up for you soon
Funny to see, that Furret ist faster than Alakazam. Real King of Gen2!
Three cheers for Alakazam! Good show!
Still a beast! They tried to nurf Psychic type but only slowed it down a bit lol
Alakazam did not disappoint!
That was so darn fast, alakazam is a beast
Another awesome video! I'm loving your content. I would love to see an Umbreon run in the future.
Hey Colin, thanks for the compliments!
Umbreon will be out in January or February, in a video alongside Espeon - I'm ironing out the finer details, but I reckon I've got a good idea with how I want to do it.
Great run! But oof that Red luck :D
Oh, tell me about it! Absolute arse luck there!
it's 4:45 AM and I'm cleaning my kitchen while listening to this 🤣
It was about 4:45am when I recorded the voiceover, so that sounds like the perfect time to watch the video!
@@Squidgy Night Owls, unite!
It's 3am here and I've just finished Kingdra's voiceover, so I think it's safe to say that I'm very much a night owl!
i really love that u do the battles only. Some channels tho i enjoy their videos really drag it on too much for me
I like telling a story with a lot of Pokémon, but some just have pure power, so it's much more fun to just show the main battles :)
You make great content bro. Loving the videos.
Thanks Travis, I'm glad you're enjoying them!
Sir, you deserve a lot more attention imo. You're very entertaining
Thank you, Booperinos!
I try my best to just be myself in the videos, and I'm just happy if one person watches and enjoys!
Can you use teleport as a field move to skip the first rival fight?
Hey! I've just tested this out - it'll automatically send you to Cherrygrove City, even if you don't go into the Pokémon Center
@@Squidgy Thanks for checking it out! The thought just quickly occurred to me when watching the run. Nice vid!
I had that thought, too, but Game Freak outsmarted us!

You're just as good as jrose and scottsthoughts. I always look forward to your videos.
Thanks, bud, that's very kind of you to say!
Great video as usual! Hope we will be seeing a Snorlax run soon 🙂
Thanks, bud!

@@Squidgy you're the man! Keep up the hard work!
I feel like your alakazam is that one kid that grew up in a house with two scientist parents and decided he wanted to be a MMA fighter with how many punches he threw throughout this run.
Or was born an Alakazam but secretly wanted to be a hitmonchan xD
He's ostensibly a Hitmonchan with good Special Attack :D
It might have been beneficial against Sabrina and reds espeon to grab thief in the rocket hideout, since dark was still all special in gen 2
Because Thief is only a 40 BP move in Gen 2, it wouldn't have OHKO'd Sabrina's Espeon, and our Hidden Power typing was Dark for the final battle!
@@Squidgy makes perfect sense. I forgot about power creep in later gens. Great video, I always enjoy your playthroughs
It's so easy to do - it's hard enough keeping track of moves' power in a single generation, let alone across multiple
That depends on IF it starts with Confusion/any attack moves at all if it doesn't its useless until it dies and Thief as a TM sucks for it to learn since its a PHYSICAL hit and even Abra itself has a crappy crappy Physical hit stats.
Thief's Special in Gen 2, as people mentioned in the Premiere chat. :)
I wasn't sure since in later Gen's Thief is physical and Abra would still start the later games with only Teleport/Kinesis.
The moment you get to Goldenrod you just wanna get fire punch and keep that learned untill the elite 4, because obviously you can handle Chuck, Price and Jasmine, then as you did aswell you wanna learn ice punch in place of disable, but still keep fire punch for that Magneton

Why wasn't shadow ball used vs Sabrina
Why didn't we just use Thunderpunch on the Red fight to be super effective against Charizard and Blastoise?
When you're doing a run live on stream, the pressure can easily make you blind to the better strategy - especially at the end of the game
Uh, I caught "It also has a two times weakness to fighting and psychic type moves." Wouldn't that be two times resistance? :(
It would be - sometimes, slips of the tongue like that make it through the voiceover and review stage!
I imagine the only mon faster would be either snorlax or a legendary
I saw the stream so no comment from me. But Ecrutrak City marketing did a good job getting it called a ghost gym instead of a poison gym
Hey can you a special Alola Muk run. He would have similar move set to Muk with dark moves of bite, crunch and shadow ball and minus ground moves, no thunder and Thunderbolt (going off the Gen 7)

I knew it was number one before even watching, zam is that good.
Other than karen and snorlax, does it even have any bad match-ups at all?
Karen's Umbreon and Houndoom, and Red's Snorlax were the only three problematic Pokémon in the entire run. Everything else was trivial!
Alakazam would be at a faster time if Thinderpunch was given priority over fire punch against red since Venusaur is part poison, Psychic would do better 😭
Alakazam will 100% smash it. So I was right my favorite psychic type destroyed the game until red.
absolutely insane that Furrett was still faster
What's you favorite gym leader
Good question - as weak as she is, I have a real soft spot for Janine. She's clearly out of her depth and trying her best while maintaining a positive attitude, and I kinda like that
Why keeping Recover tho 😅 I teach it all 3 and profit. It either kill or be killed so i don’t keep Recover at all
Alkazam is still broken generation 2 the dark types in Gen. 2 are a fucking joke
Please do a celibi run.
Not too long to wait until Celebi - currently scheduled for the end of December :)
It was still broken
Nice one. Decades later and I'm still salty this is one of the Pokémon gated behind trades I could never do lol
Oh, same! Whenever I do a regular playthrough of an older Pokémon game, I shove it through the Universal Pokémon Randomizer just to turn on easier trades.
Sub 1 hour 40 minutes!
