FOr anyone wondering, the map wasn't updating because Tango's cam account that normally keeps the map area loaded was offline. Tango generally tries to keep the account on so that the map is loaded at all times, this was just one of the times it wasn't on.
Just so you know, you only need the key if you want to go to the next level, and easy artifacts are all on the first level. The keys are treasures, like the coins and crowns those are randomly released.

I love watching everyone's first few runs because it's great to see how different hermits try to sus out the dungeon. Etho looking for the secrets and trying to memorize the layout, Joe looking for the shrieker locations to know where to sneak, and so on.
Pumpkins and crevices/ Rivers and coughs/ These are a few of Tango’s favourite things! When the bat bites/ When the Vex stings/ When Beast #03 is mad/ I simply remember his favourite things/ Hope the next run ain’t so bad!
I swear you and Etho are the only Hermits who seem to retain any neuronal function once inside the game, like you actually take the time to read and to try to understand what's happening to you, so much nicer than the usual panicking fiesta 😂
A lot of the logic joe monologues while playing is spot on. It appears he has the best understanding of cards vs sounds in the dungeon. Way to go, Joe!
Great first run Joe! Just wanted to inform you if you didn’t know, Tango says there are tons of shrieker locations and each run randomizes which ones are on and off, so I wouldn’t really pay attention to shrieker locations! Hope this helps 😊
@@AndystanSmith Tango revealed almost nothing to the hermits when he watched unless something in the game got broken (like early vexes). Joe's not the only one who felt puzzled by the key drop spot, or who got blocked off by hazard doors, and Tango never said a word about these during runs he spectated. So it would've been pretty much the same
I don't think Tango would have given a hint for Joe's run. The only time tango gave a hint was when people were struggling with the crypt's multiple floors or anything to do with the ember shop. Joe's artifact must have been at the ice ravine area. It was a map knowledge issue, which Tango wanted players to learn by themselves.
When I saw that hazard door on the right side of the throne room was closed I knew this wasn't going to end well. The only way to get to the artifact was to loop all the way around.
Yeah! You got pretty darn far, and collected more treasure than any of the other hermits I’ve seen! - you also sudsed out lots of the mechanics :) hope you’re having fun
I've been loving watching a whole bunch of the Hermits play Decked Out 2, but watching Joe play Decked Out! What can I say, it's just something else! :)
That was a great first run, Joe! Too bad that hazard door in the statue room was closed cause you were on the right track Vex and ravager A deadly combination Better luck next time
next time you play joe make sure your sound is turned up higher. sound is very important for this game to know whats going on. you should ask tango for his recommended game sound settings. and yea the map only works when tango's cam account is logged in and in the map chunk. you'll see a player symbol on the map when its active. you could actually load the map yourself honestly by having your cam account (if you have one) or even another player stand within the map area with a copy of the map being held open in their hand. (i wouldnt recommended using a player tho if you can help it cause the map area tends to be mob infested and a creeper moment on there would be absolutely devastating as theres some tnt used in the design lol) also some small bits of advice that tango himself would tell you: keys drop in the same places that treasure does, you just have to hope you get lucky with a key showing up somewhere. however, you didnt need to get a key this run because you were on easy difficulty. keys are only used to open the next level and all easy compasses will be on level 1 which requires no keys. always check your compass name as it will tell you what level your artifact is on, if it says level 2 or 3, then you will need to get keys to open new levels. this run you just got really unlucky with hazard which blocked the path to where your artifact was, but keep in mind there will always be at least one path left open that wont be blocked off, it will usually require you to backtrack pretty significantly though to find the open route. lastly, most dungeon levels arent completely horizontal so if you think you find the spot and its not working, its probably because you need to find that spot at a different y-coord
Honestly, taking the time to figure out the dungeon's layout and how the mechanics work is arguably just as valuable as rushing to find treasure. Good on you for pacing yourself!
I love Decked Out, I am totally living through all the hermits vicariously. The ice doors in the room of the kneeling man are hazard doors. If they had still been open you prolly could have slipped through there to your artifact position. The ravager in the ice caves was camping on your artifact position, and you would have had to juke him out of there to retrieve it. I know you are going to do fabulously.
Welp, you came back from camping just in time to become the Joe-y center of a Ravager and Vex sandwich. Flawless timing! Loved, loved, loved getting an uncut run in your vid. And your deductions were so fun to listen to. Looking forward to seeing your DO2 strat evolve!
That was such a close run! I think the artifact was in that very first room you went to with the Ravager, in the frozen icy part of the level, before you turner around to find another way through.
Nice attempt. You're correct about the jump boost - and I don't think I've seen any other Hermits mention it yet. At the berry bush in the room with the lava pits, you could have taken the shortcut even without it, just don't tell Tango ;)
that was a great attempt for a first run. Tip - remember there are multiple layers to the levels so artifact may be on a floor below the one you are on.. looking forward to seeing more of your runs.
gg Joe! Your understanding of the game is really good for your first run! Anyone would think that you had been watching some sort of video that tells you how to play? ;) Having a ton of fun watching y’all play!
the key you were looking for is an item that randomly gets dropped around the first level (more than one at a time, it's not a single thing you need to find), and it's used to open the doors to the second level
Keys are treasure drops so they will just be on the floor like coins and crowns, and hazard doors should never block every entrance to a place, so even if you take a while to get there, there should be some path to the artifact
Fast turn around on this, and a really cool thumbnail dang Having watched a lot of Tango's opening day stream, you did so much better navigating in an unfamiliar area than a lot of people did. I never really got the impression you were lost lost, only not sure the best way to get to the area with the artifact.
Howdy Joe! Just enough time to see this before work. =) Can't wait! You're doing fine. The key is a treasure that pops up, your compass declaares which level your prize is on
You need someone to load the map with the map in hand when you play. It is funny that you are the first hermit to look at the map but it doesn’t work 😄
The key is for level 2. Keys drop as treasure and drop it on the copper in front of the kneeling man to unlock the door but only do that if you are planning on going into level 2 for your artifact.
its so sad that we cant hear the sounds in the dungeon…. and u should maybe rewatch tangos vid again to know how to play it bcz its really not a riddle at all^^
that's a rough first run.. keys are released as treasure drops. usually tango has his cam account loaded over the map because the redstone distance is too long from the dungeon to update map. also shriekers are randomly enabled when the game starts, so each run's shriekers may be in a different location. good luck on the next runs (:
The map is definitely not updating for Joe in this run; it shows four cards (he only had 2 in his deck) and the clank block didn't decriment when we heard the tippie-toes sounds (that's the sound of clank being blocked). Finally, Tango has said that the shriekers that one can activate are random each time. So the player can't memorize their locations for future runs. (clever Dungeon Master!). Edited to add: The kneeling man is where players submit a key to access level 2. Joe's artifact is a level-one artifact (because he selected easy). There are floors on level 1 that are below the kneeling man, which do not require a key to access. Joe reached max clank at around 10:16 - that's when his hearbeat reached max speed - and somehow managed to stay away from evokers for a very long time! This was a very good run!
Yep! Exactly. He said on stream the next day, that Tangocam was supposed to log in automatically but it had failed to do so. Luckily with only two cards in the deck, the map wasn't really needed to track them.
You were doing really well and noticing all of the details, if you hadn't spent so much time in the key room and crypt and just kept moving I think you would have made it out. If you have the time to put into it, you might do really well at DO2.
