I've used your video series to add fog lights and Givi engine guards to my 2021 MG V85TT. My friend suggested that we drop the front fender to create some more room for the two top mounts and that helped us not only to see but to get the bolts started and tightened too. Thanks again! Dave

I watched this video three times and then, using your suggestions about removing the horn and leaving the bracket on the right side until the end, installed a set of Givi bars on my bike. I had some trouble getting the front engine mount bolt on the right side to undo. It was stuck fast but a bit of heat with a heat gun helped. Also be sure with these bolts to get your socket to sit square as the heads are quite soft and can easily round off. Thanks for another great video.
Thanks for the video, it really helped a lot. But I didn't replace braking fluid bracket. The original one fits just fine, and braking fluid container is still bent towards the bike, but not touching anything. It looks better to me than Givi's bracket. What do you think? Is there any reason I may regret not replacing the bracket?

The Givi windshield, it redirected the air around me and hit me in the chest. That isn't a big deal for most people, but I have a big, bushy beard. It blew my beard straight up and into my face. Had to get rid rid of it. It also blocks the airflow to my helmet vents.
@@cubbysue I appreciate your reply. I'm just looking for something that isn't as noisy as the stock shield on my Adventure TT. Your video was valuable help in the mounting of my bars today. Thanks again.

Just installed mine. Went very well thanks to you! I am sure you saved me at least an hour fiddling around. I did end up using a 20 mm bolt somewhere I should have used a 25mm but I will be damned if I can figure out where. It all went together and look great. Thank you!
For whatever it's worth I tried the GIVI Airflow on my 2021 V85TT. I am 6'2"tall and did not like it at all. I next tried the tall OEM windscreen (the one that comes on the Travel version) with the Puig spoiler on top. Perfect.
I liked it so much, I sold it and put the stock one back on. It was redirecting the wind around the shield and up under my chin. I met a viewer of the channel at my dealership that was wanting one so I sold it to him and put my stock one back on when I got home.

I really like the MGX. That's a really nice bike. I just got back from the Virginia Moto Guzzi rally where I was drooling over an MGX there. I do hope you get you a V85 as well, it is a great riding bike.
Looks like you said there’s a 13mm bolt that needs to be removed from engine in order to put in the 17mm bolt head that secures the bottom part of the bars right? I’m thinking that the previous owner snapped that 13mm bolt because when I go to insert the 17mm bolt to secure the bottom part of the bars it doesn’t grab anything. I looked inside that engine Mount and don’t see any thread. That’s why I’m thinking that the bolt was snapped and it’s stuck inside. What’d you think?
Can you verify that the bolt is broken off? Can you see it in there with a flashlight? If that bolt is broken off inside for the engine mount, that is going to be a problem. Access to that bolt is very restricted. Trying to drill the bolt to extract it is going to be difficult with the engine in the bike. It is doable though. It's not a very deep bolt, but if it is snapped off, it may be because it was overtightened. Either way, that bolt going into the block of the engine is an integral part of the strength of the frame. The engine literally is hanging from the frame from those bolts. I'm sorry to hear that it is broken off. That my be a job best suited for your dealership or a machine shop. If you plan to attempt to remove it yourself, I would center punch the broken bolt with a transfer punch that fits tightly in the hole. You want to drill as centered into the bolt as you can. Good luck, and let us know how this mess turns out.
@@cubbysue once again you were right. Bolt was broken off inside. Tried extracting it but it was too much of a b?!ch since it’s deep inside. What I ended up doing was just threading the cylinder open area before the bolt. Engine Mount should be fine since that original bolt isn’t going anywhere. On a side note, this bike is relatively new to me. I noticed on the freeway that it was to rev pretty high to do decent freeway speeds. Is this normal? For example: 75-80mph = ~5000rpm

Well, I am on my second V85TT and still ride it everyday that I can. I've not had any big issues so far, I am getting a new dash because under 32° F it goes to 3. I don't know if it is trying to do a Celsius conversion or what, but dealer says new dash. Not a big deal, anything under 32 is cold. Small stuff. Overall I am happy with it. It is just such a unique bike. Could you buy more bike for less money? Yes, but there is just something about this bike that speaks to me.
I bought the Isotta crash bars for mine but the bike is at the dealership waiting for new Cylinder heads, valves, etc. It is a 2021 V85TT with 1,100 miles on it. The titanium valves are on a recall, the bike never idled right since new, the left cylinder run hotter and when the engine was hot the pinging with 94 octane was so bad rendering the bike un-rideable. If your bike is a 2020 or 2021 check your Vin numbers, you may need to do some major engine work. I love my bike, I wish that it run properly but hey, with time and money.....anything can be fixed...LOL
@@cubbysue Very few bikes affected. There were about 60 in Germany and possibly another 60 here in the States.. The recall is all about defective valves, not up to manufacturer specs. If there's no damage, they replace the intake valves only. If they stick in the guide and visible wear then the entire head assembly gets replaced. My bike idled very badly and there were no codes. Finally, right where I was about to give up, I called AF1 and determined that there's a recall on it. Upon opening the engine we found that the valve seats were also partly caked with carbon, it seems like the intake valves either were sticking or not sealing the port correctly and plenty of gasses were pushed back in the intake. Lets see when Moto Guzzi will send the parts. Other than that......the bike has been awesome.
Thanks for making me feel good about my mechanical aptitude. I swear it was me adding these bars, except I would have put at least one bracket on backwards and had to take it off and put it the right way. Everything else, well that was me to a T, including the rachet wrenches.
Hi just writing to let you know how useful your video was in regard to fitting my engine guards.i got my guards on Friday (from motostorm in Italy) and fitted them today I struggled to get the bolts started in the confined spaces but the whole job probably would have taken me twice as long if it wasn't for your great video. Geoff
I installed the Givi guards rather then the OEM or SW-Motechs as they came up a bit higher (more bits protected). No issues installing them, but two things since. #1 - I find it easier to completely remove the tank when doing valves. It's less work than fiddling around and wiggling bits to get clearance. #2 - Access to the gearbox fill plug is blocked (for normal tools). I wound up cutting a 10mm hex key down on the short end and unbolting the rear brake reservoir to provide space for wrench movement. I now need to keep that modified key with the bike's tool kit so that it doesn't disappear.
@@Roomer645 Sounds like you didn't get one of the bikes that shipped with 70cc of oil instead of 700. I check mine regularly (drain and refill) for sparkly bits. So far, after 15K miles, all is good. I have one of those bikes and caught it VERY quickly. Thankfully.
@@mjordan812 I have a 2022 E5 model and it's fine. 70cc instead of 700cc is insane and i don't see how people at any factory would assume 70cc would be enough for a trabnsmission, especially a transmission this big (when comparing to other motorcycles).
@@Roomer645 There was an issue with a number of 2020 bikes that left the factory with little to no oil in the gearbox. I was a lucky winner. As all of the fluids were filled at the factory, there was no procedure for dealers to verify levels - and for the gearbox, there's no way to check it other than to drain, measure and refill. They (MG) seem to have sorted out their internal procedures and I haven't heard of any issues past the 2020 model year.

Keep you posted. thx
@@anibalvictoria8008 No, the other bike (the 2020) had never done that. I've only seen it on the 2021 with the E5 tune. Hopefully if I have another incident it will save my tank. Thanks John
@@John-ev3cz they do stick out alot and they have that big Givi plastic bolt-on piece on the side. I can't say if they would protect the tank better, but they look like they would keep the bike up off the pavement further while it was on its side.

Thanks for the "heads up." I'll have to check that out.
Well hopefully they get you back up and running quickly. Where are you in the U.S?
@@cubbysue Queens NY. If you're ever in my area come and visit my garage, lots of fun bikes to ride.
Thanks for making me feel good about my mechanical aptitude. I swear it was me adding these bars, except I would have put at least one bracket on backwards and had to take it off and put it the right way. Everything else, well that was me to a T, including the rachet wrenches.
Hey, thanks for watching. I appreciate it.
Ride safe.
can you remove the valve covers if these are installed?
Yes. They just barely slide over the bars, but they do clear.
Hi just writing to let you know how useful your video was in regard to fitting my engine guards.i got my guards on Friday (from motostorm in Italy) and fitted them today
I struggled to get the bolts started in the confined spaces but the whole job probably would have taken me twice as long if it wasn't for your great video.
Geoff
Thank you so much, I am so glad it helped.
can you get at the plug to fill the gear box?
Yeah, it's still accessible, but it is a little tight.
Never thought to check my fill plug, I'll have to take a look at mine. Might have to carry a special tool as well.
Gearbox oil changes are far from regularly. Most people won't do it more than twice while owning the bike for many many years.
They (MG) seem to have sorted out their internal procedures and I haven't heard of any issues past the 2020 model year.
hola colega.quedo espectacular.gracias por el video.abrazo de motociclista y saludos desde Necochea,Argentina.buenas rutas y pocos vientos
Good job cubbysue! So nice to have met you last weekend at the rally. I always learn some thing watching your videos. I am wondering if some sort of highway bars can be attached to that Bar? Love the shirt! Thanks
I wondered the same thing on the pegs. A little added comfort on those long trips. Fog lights maybe to.
Did I miss something or did your bike miraculously change color?
Yeah, I may have traded it for a 2021 V85TT. I gave a sneak peak of the new bike at the end of the Klim glove video.
@@cubbysue Hi Cubbysue , thank you for all your hard work on the videos, they are a great help. My question is, do you experience your engine rev to 2000 rpm for one second then rev back to normal once in a while at a stand still. My 2021 v85tt does that . Love the nero color thx.
@@anibalvictoria8008 yeah, it happened again on Friday. I stopped by the car wash to spray it down before the video and I noticed it did it twice. Usually I only get strange throttle blips when driving.
@@cubbysue hey Cubbysue, did you ever notice if your other bike did that, because I test rode last years model and did not notice anything like that . I went to my dealer today and the head mechanic was surprised by the way the bike revs in that manner. they will be keeping it for a few days next week . Lets hope they can solve this. Keep you posted. thx
@@anibalvictoria8008 No, the other bike (the 2020) had never done that. I've only seen it on the 2021 with the E5 tune. I originally thought it was the drive by wire that was causing the problem, but I put heated grips on witch required a reprogram of the throttle. Let us know if they find something, could be a widespread problem.
These are the guards I use. Have been down hard on more than one occasion with no damage.
Sorry to hear you going down but glad they work. It's a horrible feeling knowing it's going down and not being able to stop it. Hope you are all right, ride safe.
Damn Hoss, hope your next video is on how to assemble your new motorcycle lift...Lol! My riding buddy and I bought one several years back and it is worth every penny to keep from wallerin' around on the floor. At 65 and two knee replacements I can get down easy enough, it's that getting back up thing that's a bear. LOVE the new black V85 and notice Gateway Cycles has a used white V85 for sale, Is that your old one? The guards look good, and that's a really nice looking windscreen too. Stay Safe!
I believe they sold my old one 3 days after I bought the new one.
With ya brother. You have to plan your attack to get back up!!!
they look like they offer more protection than the stock bars. nice video, thank you
I think so as well. I like the look of these more as well but that's just a personal preference. Ride safe.
Hello thank you for the installation guide; I installed SW Motech version on my V85TT; and after dropping it at a stop sign and scrape the out most part of the gas tank at the eagle emblem; If I replaced these bars with the Givi version bars do you feel the tank would be protect from drops ; do they stick out farther than tank? Hopefully if I have another incident it will save my tank. Thanks John
@@John-ev3cz they do stick out alot and they have that big Givi plastic bolt-on piece on the side. I can't say if they would protect the tank better, but they look like they would keep the bike up off the pavement further while it was on its side.
Thanks for the reply; when you eyeball down the side do they look like they protrude out more than the tank edge that flares out and with the plastic piece on more so? Thanks again John
Would that plastic piece go on the top bar to add more outward protection?
Now your ready to crash, hopefully not jk. Just do the rear brake delete mod and won't have to worry about working around that bracket and dot 4 reservoir.
In order not to scratch your guards , you have to put those Givi plastics one stage higher I think.
No painting of crashbars after you drop the bike.
Yeah, you are probably right, I just went with what the picture showed. They are flimsy plastic, I'm sure they are just there to showcase the brand name.
I am from Bangkok Thailand follow you on RUclips thank you so much sir
Thank you for watching. Do you ride in Thailand?
very good vidéo .... Merci (in french....)🥰
I love this moto!!!!!! Is a masterpiece
Those look like a pain to install.
Brother, you've got patience, but unfortunately not the hands of a 4-year-old! 😂
Those bars will definitely do the job, but for me they take too much away from the beauty of the Guzzi. I'm torn on a solution, though.
Well, I have lights ordered. Next video is fog lights and I believe I am going to mount them on the engine guards. May look better then, we'll see. I like to take mine on the trails and I really wanted the extra protection.
