Congratulations on finishing. As a fellow slower runner I appreciate you more than you could ever know. I'll be following your shining example with my first 50k next year 😊
Just did the Taupo Ultra 50km (in New Zealand) on the weekend. 7 hours 23 mins including 895m of climbing. This was my 3rd 50k and 4th time running 50km+. The mental side is the hardest part every time and the hardest part to train for. Massive congrats for joining the Ultra Club. It's a cool but crazy club to be in. 🙂
Congratulations on your first ultra! Video idea - do a breakdown of your kit for the ultra and talk about what worked and didn’t work, what you like and didn’t like about your kit.
Oh, I can so relate! All summer when I did trail running, I just felt like I lost my ability to run. Even short distances felt like a challenge, trail running is definitely so much harder than road running, but so nice being in nature. So maaaad respect, Emily, that you actually pushed through and did a 50k! Congrats, girl! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Awesome job and very entertaining video, this was so satisfying to watch you push through and keep going!! Also as a fellow former slow person it's actually a great place to be because you are just starting to tap into your fitness and what you're capable of. Keep up the consistent training and the gains will keep coming! I did my first half iron man in about the time it took you to do this 50k (7 hr 10), the next year I was an hour faster and the year after that I took another 30 minutes off.. the improvements are really fun. Now you know you have the endurance and mental toughness, so the sky is the limit for what you want to do in the future! Love your attitude.
Amazing well done for completing your first 50k! I’m right at the beginning of this journey, quite a way off the 50k yet but that’s where I’m heading! Thanks for the inspiration 🤩
its really inspiring to see you keep running after struggling at the early stages of the race. Running 50K is really hard and it is supposed to feel hard. That doesn't mean that we can't do it. It just means that we have to muster more mental and physical strenght to do it. That's why I love running, because its this exercice of facing hardships and overcoming them. I love your videos btw and congrats on your first ultra.
As I prepared for my first Marathon I did Pilates with an instructor one-on-one, using Pilates machines, each week. This really strengthened my core & legs. I had less problems with lower back pain after running long distances, because of these Pilates sessions.
This happened to me Emily on my first big ultra earlier this year. By halfway I had a little cry and wanted to go home. Ultras are just so chuffing hard! And they last so long! (But they’re also AMAZING)
What an honour to watch all your video's and see you reach this point! It felt a bit emosh watching and I hope you're feeling really pleased. You set goal and you did it. xxxx
Congratulations Emily! Woo hoo! 50k is amazing. I have a few years, but I want to complete a 50k before I turn 50. Slower runners are awesome. 😀❤️🏃🏻♀️
congratulations on your first 50K, I was there too . Its was hard especially along the path in Bournemouth dodging the people, buggies, dogs and the blown mounds of sand. Ultramarathon running is fabulous abd it does become addictive. Once again huge congratulations 🎊
Congratulations, you are a winner and a big inspiration! I am also a slow runner and finished my first marathon in September. I feel you and love to see more from you - 5k or 50k. Hugs from Germany
Well done! This video sums up what I love about ultras. The mental and emotional rollercoaster. They break you down and build you back up, multiple times. Congrats!
Hi Emily. Well done indeed. I think you did a cracking job! I’m a bit older than you and didn’t start running until I was 47. I did my first 33 miles this year at 50 years old. It turned out to be the hottest day of the year and it took me 8.5 hours but I didn’t give up. and finished in time. I also learned loads and I am so proud of the achievement. I’m with you though the marathon was easier lol!!!! I will follow your example!!! Excellent .
the video i've been waiting for. HUGE WELL DONE!! That is a cracking time for a 50km, let alone your first 50km! 👌🏻 trail running is much nicer (and much more friendly) than road running for sure. And with trail (and ultras), people expect you to walk so I always feel happier there. And a first ultra is so hard as it's very much unknown territory. Can your body go that far, how will you get through, what will you eat, where are the aid stations... I did my first one on my own and it was hard trying to dig deep while you're by yourself but with people coming past and saying Hi etc, it really made a difference. I just took it slowly and tried to enjoy it as much as possible (and came in at over 9 hours I hasten to add so yours was definitely not slow by comparison). just thinking about your body being tired and your legs heavy - prob very much to do with your period I would say. I *always* feel lethargic and "meh" on long runs just before i'm due on. Maybe one to just note and check in. I wonder if you'd have been halfway through your cycle, whether this would have felt any easier at all (minus the wind on the seafront though, that is always a killer!)? Jam sarnie & salt & vinegar crisps is IDEAL nutrition for an ultra, it's got everything you need! other challenges, come and do Oxford Half with me next year :) But other than that, i'd love to see you sign up for one of the Pegasus Ultra Running company runs (i've done The Ridum twice before and highly recommend it, in Sept next year). x
Congratulations! Fun to see how your journey has progressed as someone that has only started running earlier this year myself - currently knocked out a couple 5k races and working towards a 10k towards the end of the year and a half marathon next spring.
What an achievement, many congratulations on toughing this challenge out and getting to the end, shows you how both the mental and physical aspects of running combine
Youre absolutely glowing even if knackered!! Congratulations 🎉🎉🎉 what an epic thing to do, hope you continue to relish and cherish the memory and thank for spurring the rest of us slow runners on with your upbeat inspo ❤
Congratulations! Find it really helpful and motivating seeing another slower runner accomplishing an ultra 🥳 I’d love to see a video about your cross and strength training you do 😊
Congratualtions and thank you for sharing :) That's a fantastic achievement. I started running in July and have found that it seems like everybody else runs superhumanly fast. I'm very used to being overtaken!
Congratulations, you did it! 🥳you deserve to rest after this amazing achievment! I've had this nightmare so often, that I'm trying to run but I just can't move forward... but you made it through! 💪
Woohoo, congratulations! I want to run my first trail ultra next year, never done so much as a half marathon. Loved following your journey as a fellow slow runner 😊💛
Awesome Challenge. Well done on completing your first Ultra. Hope you are proud of your achievement. You should be. I much prefer trail events vs road events. It feels to me as though a road event is about the destination whereas a trail event is about the journey, if that makes any sense at all. Recovery is the key now, but it would be really interesting to follow the recovery phase of this challenge. How you are feeling physically and mentally. What you are and aren't doing etc. A massive thanks again for taking us on the journey with you, and huge kudos to you.👍
Congratulations, great effort, you did it! Very inspirational to watch you going through all the relatable issues. I'd love to see you prepare&do a Triathlon, because that would align with my plans as well, so I would have someone to relate to 😊 enjoy the rest!
I find that it doesn't necessarily get easier with every ultra BUT I now know that the pain cave passes and I know I can finish.. Its a learning curve ❤
Congrats on completing your first ultra. Very well done. You asked about another challenge. There's always the Goggins challenge: four miles every four hours for 48 hours.
Your journey is so exciting! I’m so proud of you! I was wondering in which part of your cycle you were during the ultra vs. during the marathon. I know that my legs feel incredibly heavy a few days before my period. As women I feel like we only get one good week per month 😂
This is amazing! Genuinely well done... this has inspired me. Have you thought of maybe doing some walking challenges while you're taking a bit of a break from running? Also please try those waterproof socks, I want to know how they are! Congrats, you deserve to be proud :)
Did I see nurofen? Apologies if not and apologies for teensy lecture but maybe swap out for paracetamol for long distance, there is research to say anti inflammatory meds not good for long distance, again apologies if I got this wrong (it's none of my business really but just in case ❤)
Us non-superhumans gotta stick together 🫠 my brother did a 100k recently, not a single km was slower than my regular half marathon pace... I don't even know how anyone can do that 😂
"we're the normal ones" *continues to run a 50 km* girl, as a fellow runner - no, we're not normal. those fast people? super humans, yes. but we're not normal either hahaha
You sound like surprised but is it not logical that you would struggle 50k ultramarathon since it is just basically a very long trail run and you actually are only trained for the road? I am basing this just on viewing one video of yours. Maybe you actually trained for trail…. Regardless very well done!
So great to follow your journey. I'm thinking of signing up to a marathon, partly thank to you! 🫣 Also re: running in sand. I did a 10k race with my sis like 5 years ago, and around 600m left i told her we would sprint (or at least go slightly faster). Then we arrived to The Sand. We did, in fact, NOT sprint to the end. It was so difficult!! 😅
As a relatively experienced ultra runner, your attitude is perfect for this sport. You should be so proud of yourself. Welcome to the ultra family ❤
Congratulations on finishing. As a fellow slower runner I appreciate you more than you could ever know. I'll be following your shining example with my first 50k next year 😊
The way you pushed through even when it got tough is SO inspiring.

Brilliant achievement, well done Emily. Having the final section on sand is an ultra-villain type twist
Congratulations on your first ultra! Video idea - do a breakdown of your kit for the ultra and talk about what worked and didn’t work, what you like and didn’t like about your kit.
It's mega chilled, I love trail ultra so much more than road marathons.. Different vibes, less egos x
This is class. You handled the discomfort so unbelievable well! Your mental strength is unreal. What a massive achievement. Well done 👏👏👏

Oh my god, you QUEEN. I just found your channel, and as a fellow slow runner, this gives me so much motivation. Thank you for sharing!

Congratulations on completing your first ultra. Well done on not giving up.
I’ve not smiled so much watching a RUclips video in ages. I think partly cos I know EXACTLY the struggle you’re going through.
So well done Emily 😊
I've been waiting for this! Whoot! Congratulations! Now you know: there is literally nothing you can't do if you set your mind to it!
Congratulations, you are a winner and a big inspiration! I am also a slow runner and finished my first marathon in September. I feel you and love to see more from you - 5k or 50k. Hugs from Germany
You are definitely a superhuman, Emily! Nothing normal about you and these accomplishments ☺️ so so inspired by you!
Well done! This video sums up what I love about ultras. The mental and emotional rollercoaster. They break you down and build you back up, multiple times. Congrats!
You did so well, really feel for all your feelings. Also so cute how your partner is trying to keep your mood up 🥹 enjoy the well deserved rest 🎉

I've been running slow now for about a year, I can barely wrap my head around 15k let alone 50k. Congratulations, job well done!
Fair play to you! Massive respect. Great achievement.
Well done!!!! I really admire your total honesty .
You did an amazing job 🎉🏅

Did I see nurofen? Apologies if not and apologies for teensy lecture but maybe swap out for paracetamol for long distance, there is research to say anti inflammatory meds not good for long distance, again apologies if I got this wrong (it's none of my business really but just in case ❤)

Triar
Triathlon would be great, but maybe having another go at a sub 30 5k would be a good idea, too.
so cool!
So awsome. Well done. Get a rest in, and then ready for New adventures in 2025.
Ive got my 50k in 9 days yes i havent trained in like a month i did 32k in 3:30 time in like sep 3 or 2
Great job, so 100km in March? :D Vid on warmups maybe?
The 3 Min run/1 Min walk strategy is interesting. Is this a commonly used strategy?
By the way.. Welcome to Dorset x
I absolutely love that green coat please tell me what its called 🙏
Us non-superhumans gotta stick together 🫠 my brother did a 100k recently, not a single km was slower than my regular half marathon pace... I don't even know how anyone can do that 😂
Well done what was the race called
I found that skinny bridge weird x
