- Kyosho has a wide variety of RC offerings and among their most popular vehicles are the Mini-Z cars. Most Kyosho Mini-Z cars have been on-road offerings. There have been some off-road vehicles too like monster trucks and buggies, but never crawlers or trail trucks, that is until now. Kyosho went back to the drawing board and designed a ground up new scale RC off-road crawler truck and placed it under the new title Mini-Z 4x4. Their first releases on the new platform are the Toyota 4Runner and Suzuki Jimny. We as you can see got a early sample of the 4Runner to check out. This tiny RC truck looks amazing, the chassis well designed and the package is ready to run and more importantly easy to use. Get all the details on the new Kyosho Mini-Z 4X4 Toyota 4 Runner (HiLux) Ready Set right here in another detail packed RC Driver review.

Mini-Z is always worth the price. If you haven’t owned one, you wouldn’t know..
No LiPo is also a plus. Just think of having this truck, fully charged ready to go without the LiPo hazard!
Tons of run time. Don’t know how many thousands of dollars I’ve spent over the years on LiPo’s that I’ve had to turf from lack of maintenance. Sorry but I don’t have the time to cycle all of my LiPo’s every other month if not being used. They usually sit in the bat safe with a store charge until I have the time to play. If they’re puffed, they’re done. Rechargeable AAA’s, no issues...
Well said Jason. I don’t get the “LiPo elitism” that’s going on in the r/c world. For a car like this, AAA’s are the best, they’re inexpensive, safer and available pretty much everywhere, so when the batteries your brought with you run out, you can literally pop in any store and buy cheap AAA’s and you’re off R/C’ing again.
mini z's have been waaaay over priced since their inception and this model is no exception
what we have here is a run of the mill crawler with a licensed body to drive up the price
for the same price as this late to the mini scene truck i got the rc4wd ALL METAL chassis - metal, axle housings - metal
steering and suspension links - metal, shocks - metal, transmission and gears - metal
steel BEADLOCK wheels
and a hard plastic body with FULL interior - no need for "smoking" the windows
i would pay 119.99 usd tops for this
its not worth 200
no mini z ever was
and i have owned a few so i do know
i do agree with the lipo thing at least as far as these tiny models are concerned though
I can agree with you 100%, and Mini Z while are more expensive then some comparable models, once you own one you understand why. People compare this to the Axial SCX24 which is similar size but this has a better body, more articulation stock, really good servo, run time on AAA is enormous alone, and surely the aftermarket will fill the void people with what people have an issue with. Personally cant wait till more realistic bodies come out, maybe oil shocks, and some crawler mods and see where these will go.
@@HobbyGrade i agree about kyoshos minis being over priced you could buy a 1/16 scale rc kit that is all metal even though its a chinese brand all you got to do is get esc reciver and battery but its 84$ on Amazon so thats best bang for buck in my opinion ps. Its the wpl c34/44 km just depends on if you like the toyota land cruiser and its a hard body
From the moment they released mini-zs back in the early 2000s I have always loved them and the quality is top notch
No matter what the Japanese do , they tend to put quality first .. in everything lol it’s truly amazing
I just got my 4runner quick sand special.. this thing is super detailed and awesome! the only downside is the shocks are not oil filled and the spare tire at the back gets in the way when crawling!
Sweet!!!! Came over from TikTok also subscribed
Looks awesome, never had a crawler smaller than 1/12 so this will be cool to have. Next, wish to see Kyosho make a 1/10 scale version of this little truck with hard body of course.
Kyosho always make a quality product and I will be buying this.
These mini-z are something to collect and have on display in a nice cabinet they look that good , there not just an RC but a proper scale model
Just got one, the gray Toyota 4x4. Out of the box the unit needed adjustment. First, after a couple uses the on/off switch popped further into the control box and became hard to operate. Had to open up the box and put a little bit of foam behind the switch. Second, the unit seemed to be easily hung up by minor obstacles, with the slipper clutch engaging and the motor spinning. Kyosho customer service suggested pushing the main drive gear to seat the bearing. Seems to be running fine now. Minor adjustments for hobbyists used to fine tuning their equipment but the product is promoted as "Your First R/C car!"
Just the level of detail alone on such a highly sought after truck, can’t really complain at the $200 price. Might be worth just getting one to put on my shelf for display.
You have to drive it at least once 😁
I imagine it'd be perfect to crawl around on a hobby railroad track landscape... its so tiny!
Just ordered mine; so excited!!
the detail is amazing totally worth itt
I'm thinking about picking one of these up. The detail is impressive. Just wish it was a little bigger.
Nice looking truck but the price is steep for what it is
Kyosho makes nice Stuff! 👍
Awesome video and super sweet rig! I know these have been around for a couple years now but they still impress me every time I see them! I need one!
A lipo option would be nice since my scx24 comes with a lipo. The price point is a killer for it though.
The details are remarkable. I'm seriously considering it in red.
Great review.
Cute little crawler. Thanks for this review.
Awesome Details!!
I got a black toyota 4runner too❤️❤️。 love toyota
how it compared with Traction Hobby Tank 300 ? price is more or less similar. I'm interested in realistic low speed crawling.
What a awesome machine!
Super nice video and thx
Grabbing one of these badboyz
My good sir
I was attempted to "kill it"
In top gear
AND THE THING STILL WORKED
Fantastic great, the mini z😉😀👍👍
great vid and great location! I love the small 4runner I build off-road tracks in my living room or on the bed using books and boxes and spend hours with it. the only down note is for that price they could have used some better materials for example the tyres got squared just but leaving it sitting on a shelf for a couple weeks and it wasn't summer...impossible to fix them I had to buy another set!
Great video as always!! You do a most excellent job of always explaining the intricacies of each and every model you review!!
What a speed, nice vid!
Awesome video
Hmm, it was my understanding that the radio system used here is *not* compatible with the existing Kyosho premium radios such as the 432PT or EX-6R. But I’m happy to be wrong as I have both and am hoping they can be used with these new crawlers.
Nice truck , but for that price point there asking. Add another 23 dollars to it and you can get 2 axial 1/24's which seem to be a better truck IMO
Yeah the scx24 is better. It has better low speed than the mini z
For sure, scx24 performs better than mini z 4x4 but If i have to keep one i will go with mini z. It's just so cool. 😎
Better is a very subjective word I have both of them and I prefer the kyosho all day long to me it's just a better truck and offers a more realistic off-road experience. The axial almost seems toy grade like something you get at Walmart
@@mzondi1970 I am surprised you think that. The only thing I found better about the mini z is the aesthetics. They made the mini z 4x4 basically so proprietary with its design. It is frustrating. The servo on mine works horribly, and unlike the Scx24, it is a ridiculous project to upgrade the servo. (obvs it isn't impossible, but it's a task) I mean it definitely LOOKS NICE on my shelf, but for $200?? To me...it is more of a scale trail truck than a crawler. The Scx24 on the other hand is a pretty capable crawler out of the box, and with just a few cheap EASY TO INSTALL mods, it just gets better. For god's sake you can't even change the wheels/tires on the Mini-z without buying 3D printed adapters.
I will admit that my opinion is biased, because I believe I got a defective servo (not that they are normally fantastic), but if you get an RC that you can barely turn, it tends to ruin the whole experience, and leave a bad $200 taste in your mouth.
@@donoh3909 I understand your point I just prefer the Kyosho over the axial one look like a toy more than the other even though they both are toys LOL. I did some work on my 4Runner to the suspension and other things it has great articulation and with some decent weights I don't have the problem with it tipping. In my experience the axial also needs a little help when it's new but they are both good machines I just happen to like one more than the other
Awesome content, great video! Like it!
That's cool.
Good review!!
I agree with the comments on the body look. It's sweet.
Price point, it is easy to realize it is not worth it compare to rc4Wd gelande for the same price.
So if we use AAA battery 1.5 volt. It is a lot off waste on money and rubbish. Not eco friendly.
If we use 1.2 volt accus. Less speed friends beat you on the track with 1.5v.
Can we charge AAA 1.2 accus directly from the car via cable? If not it should be.
Philips screws is not a durable option, even with the best brand new screw driver, those screw are not made to be used a lot.
I have a feeling this is gonna be one of the better small scales. Like I've had a losi mini sct for well over 10 years now and it's an absolute beast. Brushless, lipo, upgraded shocks. It was good to me for years and even still works to this day, just needs some TLC with some chassis parts and differentials/axles to get it driving str8 again.
Would this motor last longer than the scx24 after adding some weight the car?
Great job as always. Looks like a lot of fun to drive. Keep up the good work. I enjoy your channel.
need this!! will go great with my scx24
What’s the aftermarket for these like can you fit scx parts??
Is there a way to lower it for scale look?
Is there any way to convert to a Lipo battery????
I'm waiting for it to come out and I'ma get a few of them 😂 one is never enough
sure would be cool... but 200 bucks each?
I'm interested in this because I don't know how to storage charge my enduro24 1-cell lipo batteries. I'd rather add something to my collection that runs on AAAs.
Looks like a nice build Gregory but the price is a little steep.
Hey Greg what is that truck behind your right shoulder? The orange and white one? Also is it a aftermarket body on it? If yes which one? I like it! I don't recognize it.
Any links for brass weights to lower the Center of Gravity?
Phillips screws! What year is it?
For all the work they put into the details, you'd think that they would at least find a way to cover up the phillip heads on the wheels cause it makes it look really cheap.
This would be cool to FPV
HI,
My name is Vince
I have a question:
I would like to order an inexpensive TX and RX for my future Kyosho MR04 EVO 2! Can I use the Kyosho KT531P ? Do you ( or somebody) have a tip for an affordable TX and RX?
e.g
Vince
It looks awesome but how much is it?n great channel keep the vids coming. Thx
What rechargeable AAA’s would you recommend?
I would like to purchase one..any link?
Doesn’t stimulate me like stomper 4x4s did as a kid haha
How does SCX24 Jeep stack up against the RC4WD 1/18 Gelande (Jeep)????
Great video with Toyota :) I love this thing but the price is already extremely high. Great video! How satisfied are you with the vehicle and would you buy it again ?
Sorry if it’s been asked (newbie) anyway to add say fishing sinkers to the chassis to add some weight
Pretty neato. I would never get $200 worth of enjoyment out of it though.
It's a pretty tiny truck, but the price! €249 is a lot of money for such a small crawler.
I hope traxxas is gonna make one
too bad its RTR only. and I sure hope there's a way to take that defroster grid off the back window. it really cheapens the look IMO. would be OK if it was at least subtle.
They cost around 240 euros here, which is almost the same as US dollars. That’s insane imho.
Nice looking truck. But I rather buy some In N Out
Great little crawler. Looks very capable. Pre-ordered and can't wait until it comes. Excellent review as always!
How did it do?
Hi, from where are you ordering, can you share me the link ?
I bought a panda hobby crawler but this is on my list
Waterproof???
Unfortunately the u.s to aus exchange rate is bad at the moment. I dont think i will ever own one 😢
does anyone know if this truck can be driven trough shallow water? its been raining a lot where I live and want a 1/24 crawler to use in my backyard
My only problem with mini/micro offroad scalers is my eyes are bad enough & leaning over far to really enjoy the articulation and scale crawling I'd be at the chiropractor for ever!
🥃cheers🍻
Anyone complaining about the price doesn't know the quality you get with a kyosho mini z.
aaand, now I want one
Agreed. The price.👎
I just want the body for my SCX24
Agreed!!
They will probably sell it at some point, but this truck is quite a bit smaller than the SCX24 from what I've seen in other videos.
Release date?
Almost first
sometimes i have it where it just makes noise and doesn't move anyone know why?
Very beautiful looking truck, but no lipo AND 200 dollars? Nope rather not.
If I may add, the body makes the impression of being too heavy. A top heavy crawler is probably not what you want. Thin lexan would be better?
@@PFinkoloTL87 Yes, lexan is better for performance but hardbody just looks alot better.
I know is a different category but i rather go with the madvan is 219.99
How long did it last on the aaa’s? I like to take hour long trail hikes with my stuff and knowing how many batteries to bring is beneficial.
I can presume this will pull less juice trail riding then a Mini Z race car on the track, so a 1100 mah rechargables will last well over 1 hour with a lot of throttle, i would not be surpised people getting close to 2 hours. With the more output 750 mah Orion or PN Racing batteries at least 45 minutes of run time.
Sold out a year ago...? Why a review on RC truck I cant buy? Not trying to be a "D". But when I saw this I was ready to order one
Great review as usual! Need some mod vids!
I would like to know what makes it worth $200? I am not seeing anything!
I saw alot of phillips head screws, not good
Hahah nice Name 😂😂
You should review the latrax desert prerunner.
Hey guys I’ve just upload a small clip of upgrades on my kyosho mini z 4Runner go check em out, I’ll even do another vid of crawling soon so mahalos and aloha 🤙🏽😁
Nice little RC but no thanks costing $200. I'll stick with my real 1995 4runner, lots more fun with the real item :)
Very cool but look out for barkers eggs!💩💩
behind white truck name please...
What is 199.99.99
jimny
You’re paying for the name, kyosho and the name, Toyota. That’s all it is. It’s a sub $100 crawler with $100 or more worth of name drops.
Waaaaaaaaaay-Overpriced 🤬
I don’t get the mini trucks 🤦🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️ I need my 1/10 scale
yeah finding small scale areas to run is not that easy.
Price = Price: $199.99.99 huh?
@rcdriver_online Just getting a Mini 4x4. Is this one the best one (regardless of price, rather buy quality once :-) )
I think its just 10 years too late
Holy crap...this is a weird channel. Haha
