  • The Doctorate of Clinical Psychology in the UK is notoriously difficult to get in, but as it turns out, getting in was only the beginning. The Oxford DClinPsy course asked me to share with the first years my honest take on how I managed my own wellbeing whilst on the course, from a "non-sugar-coated" trainee point of view. As I've somehow managed to survive in one piece and reach my final year of the DClinPsy, I'm here to share what I wish I knew when I first started. This was directed to Oxford trainees but hopefully will be helpful to those in other training courses too. Let me know in the comments if there's anything that helped your wellbeing through your psychology career that I've missed out :)
Disclaimer: All my own subjective perspective. I mention “Fin” who is a senior staff @ Oxford

    ☆ About Me ☆
My name's Aika, I'm 25, Hong Kong Chinese & I'm a final year Trainee Clinical Psychologist at Oxford. I hope to de-mystify the clinical psychology career in the UK, increase the representation of diversity in the field and make Clinical Psychology and Oxbridge feel just a little bit more accessible and human if I can.

This was a brilliant resource Aika and it’s incredibly heartwarming to hear that you’ve been able to make use of the support around you as your embark on the final year of your training. So much of this resonates and I hope to be keeping a lot of what you’ve said in mind as I embark on the Child Psychotherapy training myself. Congrats and thank you for sharing this 🎉

So great to see you back! I always check your channel to see if there may be a new video. I am aspiring to get into a PhD program this year after teaching psychology at university. I realized that I really want to go the clinical psychology route.
Anyhow, thank you for sharing your experience! I have gained some insight as to what awaits me.

I wanna ask some questions about how to study psychology 1. how do you learn and take notes from the course material when you first encounter it(slides, core reading) and make it stick? So, do you make condensed notes or notes with great detail about how those experiments support the theory? 2. How do you revise those content (How do you make flashcards for psychology content)? . If possible can you make a video talk about these things? 唔該晒

@@TheOxfordPsych I have watched that video before but I think it just covers basic ideas of my points. Therefore, I still don't know how to use active recall for psychology content🥲🥲. So, I want more details and practical guidance from you.
