What a performance. Seeing Jon on the percussion and Chris performing the best bass solo in history made this one of the best live performances I have EVER seen.

The reason that set is so incredible is because Jon, in his honesty and wisdom, felt they were excellent musicians but not much to look at on stage. He felt they needed something great to look at while they performed their excellence. How can you not love that man? He is beyond genius. His soul emanates to all who receive his amazing voice.
You and 6 other reactor cry when they hear Jon's voice and see the band play ....Can you imagine when millions of us saw them in concert: we cried....held our hands over our hearts......raised our hands in the sky like we were being Blessed by Angels!!! Just a Heavenly Experience!!! This group and Fleetwood Mac makes me cry....Yes just gets me.
Thanks for the great reaction! FYI Patrick Moraz is the keyboard player on this live version. He was the keyboard player on Relayer. The set was designed by Roger Dean, who also created their logo and record covers. At the time it was considered the most beautiful live set in existence. Next I would suggest two of their most emotional songs: To Be Over or Turn of the Century. Going for the One is a much rockier song, but the swirling pedal steel solo in it is hypnotizing.
Wakeman was a (highly creative) mess during this period, even having a minor heart attack. His physical deterioration was coupled with a huge #1 solo hit lp Journey to the Centre of the Earth. So Patrick was a welcome addition to YES, and imo did a fantastic job on my personal #2 YES lp (after Tales), Relayer!
@@fredkrissman6527 I agree. Moraz did a great job and was the right guy at the right time. i saw him twice live on the Moraz-Bruford tours in the ‘80. And he was absolutely terrific. People rarely think about him when they talk about top keyboard player in rock music, but he is up there with Emerson, Wakeman, Banks, John Lord, Eddie Jobson. I was happy though to see Rick come back for the GFTO album. He did an amazing job on it.

Yes it is, beautifully constructed and played. Like its precursor "Heart of the Sunrise", this one seems to be both about human love/joy and about an encounter with some sacred presence beyond the visible world.
I saw this tour, my first Yes tour. Never missed one thereafter.
The world was so different then. Peace loving, pot smoking happy people. 😎 I certainly was. And still am. Yes, they are young here, but age is just a number. Don’t let your soul and spirit get old! Saw Peter Gabriel live night before last. Everyone in the building was still young inside. EVERYONE! Tony Levin on bass was mind blowing. 3rd row. Peter was RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF ME ALL NIGHT!

EL&P (1974) and Camel too. I know what i say, because in these days i've seen all these Bands live, including Yes (1974 - TFTTO Tour). YES ('Tales from Topographic Oceans' Tour - 13. April 1974, Olympiahalle München/Germany); EL&P ('Brain Salad Surgery Tour, 18. May 1974 Olympiahalle, München/Germany); Camel ('Rain Dances' Tour, Summer 1977 - 'Schwabinger Bräu' München); YES ('Going for the One' Tour, 23. November 1977 - Olympiahalle/München). These were just some of many Concerts i've seen but they were some of the best ever. Not forget Pink Floyd 1973 ('Dark Side of the Moon' Tour - Olympiahalle) and Pink Floyd ('Animals' Tour, Summer 1977 - also Olympiahalle). ☺Kind Regards. Have a nice day! 🌳🌷✨

Cat, Snapple, Pop! Wow Lee, that was incredible. Thanks so much for that. And right after your first Ritual Vid no less. And not long after I saw Jon perform Ritual with the Band Geeks back in April. And 50 years since I bought Tales. I love Tales. But then again, I also love Classical Music and always thought Yes embodied the format and presentation of Classical Music more than any other rock band in history. I so much enjoy your commentary and reaction to Yes. You mentioned that you kind of wish you could have joined us all at a Yes concert back then. That struck my heart. My closest friend passed away 2 years ago. Yes was our favorite band. He was the only friend of mine who could still truly appreciate listening to all those long Yes compositions (in the right frame of mind of course) time and again. We could just kick back, not say much, but just listen, and truly appreciate the incredible artistry of this great band; each artist, on his own, at the top of his individual field. You remind me so much of my friend who I miss so much. It's truly a joy to listen to your reactions to Yes, a band who, after all the countless amazing artists I've listened to over the years, I now consider the greatest rock band of all time. Rock on brother. If you really want a rush, segment off 1-1/4 hours and listen to Beethoven's 9th (and last) symphony and you'll notice the parallels to Yes.

Tales From Topographic Oceans is my favorite album ever!!!!
The finest music ever written or recorded in all music history.
From the 'Relayer' tour in 1975 with Patrick Moraz on keys. Still using most of the Roger Dean-designed set from the Topographic Oceans tour (Yes was doing so well at the time that when they came back a year later they had a totally different but equally extravagant stage set). There's a few clams in the performances, plus you're watching a VHS transfer so there's some warbles here in there in the video. But otherwise, this is one of the best ever performances of "Ritual" available anywhere. As I recall that show was Yes headlining with Peter Frampton and the band Ace opening. BTW, Jon has explained that the "ritual" referred to in the title is people and the musicians joining together at concerts. That's where the "We love when we play" line comes from. But yeah, this is Jon in his most 'Jesus-y' look, and not long before he'd take everything he'd learned to date and poured it into Olias of Sunhillow.
After almost fifty years of listening and watching these masterful musicians create emotions. I literally cry after listening over and over again.
Can you imagine any group playing that live....omg.

So I had some technical difficulties trying to get a copy of the 35th anniversary or the symphonic version of "Ritual" and I ended up doing this one. And honestly, I am so glad I did. This was fucking transcendent. I was truly blown away by this performance. Now... Where do we sail to next?

For live video of YES, try "Siberian Khatru" from Philadelphia 1979 (in the round!!), and of course keep working on the 2001 Yes Symphonic stuff - that is considered to be probably the best live YES video concert ever from a production standpoint.
You also need to do "Awaken" still, though, right? Make sure it's the studio version from the 'Going For The One' album. The live versions are ok, but in the case of "Awaken" its real power is the studio version.

The whole Going for the One album is probably their last prime album you haven't done yet. Even though you've done Awaken. The other songs all together are fantastic.

Thanks for another great one :) This one had Patrick Moraz instead of Rick Wakeman on the keys though. But don't be dissapointed as he added the relayer sound to Yes, making it more alien even. Unfortunately the QPR concert recording lacks many of the keyboard mix tracks as the sound engineer didn't properly set up the stage that day for full spectrum audio recording of the concert. The roosevelt stadium concert is a audio only live concert of yes where moraz is playing his ass off, a great way to spend an hour or two on during weekend ;)

7:00 That flamenco-tinged guitar solo by Steve flying slowly over rustles of percussion (on the studio version it's also some kind of "wind machine" synth or mellotron) - yes, you're right, it's SO atmospheric, it feels like a clear, starry night out on an open plain with a full moon shining, and a camp fire, perhaps 4.000 years ago, a truly archaic-cosmic vibe....Steve's tone and phrasing here is pure magic - and then finally he transitions over to the opening theme of "Nous sommes du Soleil" at 7:38 - the theme that also returns for the closing section of the entire piece. This is such a beautiful opening "prelude" to the whole. 💓
I saw Ritual live several times including the 35th Anniversary tour and Symphonic Tour and everyone but Steve played drums I believe toward the front of the stage. They are always surprising and at their concerts would get standing ovations after every song. And yes, there are tears. There is so much other material for you to choose from. I'd go with Turn of the Century or Yours is No Disgrace. And for fun, I'd watch plenty of their live stuff. Guess I'll go drink some snapple now.

Yes times have changed. We were sitting quietly just taking attention to what they played, and listening carefully, happy to be there as these were exceptional moments in our simple and normal lifes. Sometimes smoking weird things too… We were like cats snapling through emotions, timeless music and friendship.
i kind of wish shows were like that still.. but i do enjoy the more "energetic" crowds we get nowadays lol

I have seen this band every time they toured around my area since 1975, even though in the later years, the band wasn't a whole. What a way to put a tribute to the Tales album watching and listening to this brings back fantastic memories

Ladles and gentlemen Chris Squire and Yes the greatest show on earth. This tour was my first blessing. That show was a snappy apple of feline proportion.
There is a korean war movie with Red Buttons set in Japan. It's titled after a japanese phrase, "cry for happy". Probably, what you're feeling.
What sets yes apart is they can totally rock, perform beautiful ballads and intense chaotic madness seamlessly in one epic masterpiece.
I was right at the front, watching this at QPR. It was the 6th time out of the 8 times seeing them that year.
I guess you understand why.
It's perfectly natural to shed tears to Yes.
TRIPPING for a YES LIVE adventure was mandatory for us. 😂 I ca't even imagine how intense they were myself, and I was there throughout the entire 70s. The fact that back then, this was all still so new made the experiences so much more mindblowing to behold. YES would simply leave us all completely spellbound, transcended, drenched in tears of bliss and overcome with intense awe & shock plus their stage designs were the most elaborate of the era. At some point the music would become an organic life-force beyond human capability. YES seemed to channel all the Gods. The afterglow would last for weeks ❤ LISTEN TO "THAT, THAT IS! (Their best 90s EPIC that is so too often overlooked!)🎉
They trow a few Easter eggs in it, with an excerpt of Remembering, and later The Ancient.
Thank you Lee for sharing this beautiful reaction with us. As many of us long time Yes devotees have said, don't be ashamed to cry, we all have many times over the years. We are all so blessed to be able to appreciate this extraordinary sonic art & to express that through tears is the highest compliment you can ever give to an artist. This was from the "Relayer" tour with Patrick Moraz on keyboards. I've had the DVD set for decades, unfortunately the mix for most of the concert is very poor. Luckily the mix for this piece was pretty good, there's only the tape warps from time to time. Apparently they paid a professional filming company to make a professional recording of one of the concerts on this tour & someone lost it!! Apart from this concert, the Yessongs film & an edited concert from the Going for the one tour with poor recording quality there's virtually no other live video recordings from this golden era of Yes on stage performance. It's a pity as their playing during this period is phenomenal. Luckily we have superb quality recordings from later years which are fabulous. Suggestions: To be over from Relayer, side one - title track, Turn of the century & Parallels from Going for the one & Future times/Rejoice & Release release from Tormato & anything you haven't yet listened to from previous albums, best wishes.
This is in the Relayer time frame so that's Patrick Moraz on keys, Mr Wakeman having been spirited away by the dreaded Snapplecat. Shame you had download issues, but at least you got to see the Roger Dean set design!

Here he had played excerpts from 'Papillion' it is a piece from his former Band 'Refugee' and the same titled Album (1974). It's the first Track on the, by the way, absolute phantastic but unfortunately, single Album they made. 'Refugee' consisted of three musicans: Patrick Moraz (Grand Piano, Church Organ, Hammond Organ, Clavinet, Sinthesizers, Cembalo and Alpine Horn); and the old fellow campaigners of Keith Emerson's former Band 'The Nice', bevor he founded his next Group, the famous Emerson, Lake & Palmer in 1970. So the other Guys (former 'The Nice) were: Lee Jackson (Vocals, E-Bass & Cello) and Brian Davidson (Drums & Percussion). The Album 'Refugee' of these three Guys is absolute superb, a musical relish of the first order. Unfortunately, the Band only made this only single Record, because he decided upon request from 'Yes', with a heavy heart, to resolve his Band 'Refugee' and change to 'Yes' In the same Year (1974), together with his new colleagues he made the Album 'Relayer' (published December 5th, 1974). The Rest is History. Although on the one hand i was happy that my Favorite Band YES had found such an outstanding sucessor for Rick Wakeman, that's the way I am, on the other hand I was very sad about the end of 'Refugee'. I wished so much they would have made another (second) Album, because their Debut-Album was and is GREAT! SUPERB! An absolute Delight for every real Music Fan. This Album is and remains - a true gift from God! 🌳🥀🌱🌷✨ ☺Kind Regards Heinz (Munich/Germany).

So glad you were forced to watch this clip from 1975! If it isn’t the best, at least you are seeing the original lineup and from what I can see, they are still using the same original stage props that I saw when I first saw them live! This is sooo good!
You got to see Chris Squire at his BEST and clearly enjoying himself. You saw him helping out at the end with percussion! The only thing it lacked was Wakeman, but that is a minor criticism.
I would love to use the ‘Wayback Machine and go to one of these shows with you. You get it. You absolutely get it!
Not sure if you’ve hit Awaken yet, but when you do…original studio version and be prepared. It is a direct experience of God.

You've become a Squire fan, so I recommend you check out the song Lucky Seven from his Fish out of Water solo album from around the same time as this clip is from. The entire album (IMO) could stand as an equal beside most Yes albums for the quality of the songwriting and the arrangements, but Lucky Seven is a perfect synergy between Chris Squire and Bill Bruford, who came on as a session musician for this album. You love Bill, you love Chris...this is the next logical place for you to go - and then you'll truly understand what Chris Squire brought to Yes, and why every member was replaced at one time or another except him and it still managed to sound like Yes. Very much looking forward to this reaction when you get around to it. Cheers from Montreal.
Ric was not on this tour, that was Moraz on keys. I like how at the end, Jon and Chris watch Steve blast that ending solo. I am sure the whole audience was also. Having seen Yes live at least a dozen times, never was disappointed. Great reaction. Going for the One album would be a great next dive. And for the demons, a true heart believing in the saving blood of Jesus is the only solution. Peace of the Lord Jesus Christ to you and yours.
Hello Lee. You have absolutely to hear 'Long Distance runaround' and 'The Fish (Schindleria Prematurus) from 'Yessongs' (the Triple Live Record of 1973). the 14 minute 'The Fish' is, by far, the best Bass-Solo Chris Squire ever played and, in my opinion, the best Bass-Solo in the entire Rock History. It was recorded during their 'Fragile' Tour (1971) with Bill Bruford on Drums. The entire Track is Monster - pure magic and superb. Nobody bevor (and also thereafter) had played such a Bass Solo like Chris Squire. This is a Monster-Bass Solo and the final proof, that Chris has been the the greatest Bassist in Rock History. Please, you have to hear this. I can promise you, you will absolutely love it! By the way 'The Fish' is one of the three best pieces on 'Yessongs', together with 'Perpetual Change' (also with Bill Bruford on Drums) and 'Close to the Edge'.
Other Yes Tracks which i would suggest are: 'In the Presence of' (if possible only from the 'Symphonic Live' Concert DVD - Live in Amsterdam 2001) because this piece is played by them (Jon, Steve, Chris, Alan together with the 'European Festival Orchestra is played absolutely magically, you definitely have to check this out. I say you, this piece on this DVD is to die FOR, believe me Lee!
The next Track wish i recommend to you is one of the beautyful Songs YES ever had written: It is the wonderful Song 'Shoot high, aim low' from their 1987 Album 'Big Generator' (Trevor Rabin Aera). A real Masterpiece, a Dream in Music.
The last Piece i recommend you is: 'Endless Dream of their 1994 Album 'Talk' (also Trevor Rabin Aera). It is 15 Minute Piece and, in my opinion, one of the best Tracks Yes ever had wrote. Definitely! I just found out that Alan had passed away.. wow. I’m very lucky that I saw this band about six times, and my mum used to hang out with them backstage. They were such laid-back sweet people.. i’m so blessed and happy that I grew up, listening to the music!
Found this on VHS cassette, at a record fair about 30 years ago, awesome footage...apparently filmed by a Japanese TV crew at one of England's famous football stadium, sound mixing issues meant it was shelved i think . But it's da bomb regardless 😊

Great reaction brother! Never saw this Live performance. OMG ! My favorite band shreds. Just saw yes October 11 10 days ago in Clearwater Florida. Of course they were awesome. I recently asked Jon about the percussion break. He said Alan played the percussion on the recording, but the general idea from Jon originated in a Balinese monkey chant. You can find examples on RUclips. But I believe that's the origin of the ritual part of "Ritual".

1975 was Patrick Moraz, Rick Wakeman was doing his solo tour " Journey to the center of the Earth " I attended there concert that year at Roosevelt Stadium in Jersey City , New Jersey

Well, there's still Your Move/All Good People from The Yes Album (and the Yessongs version is the definitive one), To Be Over to finish up Relayer, ALL of Yessongs for that matter, then try diving into the commercial 80s and marvel at how much YESness still assaults the unsuspecting ears of John Q. Public in Hitsville until their weak brains Snapple from being stretched. They made money like the cat who ate the canary and still made art: Our Song, Leave It, It Can Happen, Shoot High Aim Low, I'm Running ( ! ), Open Your Eyes, Homeward (The Ladder), The Calling, State Of Play, and there's always the Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe album.

@L33Reacts and Jon Anderson also still tours. I just saw him in April at the Palladium in NYC, backed up by the amazing Band Geeks. They performed Ritual, along with just about every mind-blowing classic YES song. Jon Anderson still has his voice even at 79 years old. It was such an emotional experience for me, having seen YES throughout the years, and when they were all still here with us. God, how I miss Chris Squire and Alan White. I have to tell you, though, that Jon Anderson still carries the YES flame of life, and it was beyond moving to see him perform again. The fancy stage effects and crazy sets weren't there, but the music was as vibrant as you could hope for. 50+ years of YES. I am one lucky person. Btw, I was accompanied by my musician son-in-law, (who is probably close in age to you), and he said it was absolutely one of the best concerts he's ever seen. Imagine if he could have been therefor the original YES, with me and my friends back in the early 70s...mind-blowing!! 🔥🎆🎇🔥💚💚💚

DONE IT! Dropped at one of their shows, that is. It was mind blowing. It was nice to have the Alan Parson Project open for them, so good tunes all around. But the show was surreal, and moving beyond description.
Oh, and never give Snapple to a cat, they are spastic enough without the sugar. You will not sleep for quite a while after that.

...I'll never forget, when I first listened to this piece (studio version) one winter night in 1973-74 around midnight on my headphones, and when Steve's final solo kicks in culminating it all, 'my soul crawled out of my body and went to heaven' - dunno how else to put it into words... (there were no 'substances' involved/needed by the way)... if this makes you cry, that means, you've got 'it' - welcome bro 💖
...in terms of what to listen to next - I overall highly recommend the whole live Yessongs - not only is the quality excellent, but they also had evolved and matured some of the material further, making it better than the original studio versions!! So - I suggest the whole triple album... okay, okay... I size it a wee bit down: 01 'Perpetual Change', 02 'Yours is no disgrace' & 03 'Starship Trooper' (but only because I have to - there is not a single weak song/version on this one!) 🌠🌠🌠
Typically, at Yes Concerts the audience gets so caught up in the music that they just sit and listen, then go crazy once the music stops.

Roger Dean added more components to that basic set for the Americas tour. He added hydraulics which moved these massive green pod-like structures. I recall green lasers but not too sure ... by then they were ubiquitous with the fog.
They performed Song Chaser during this concert it's available on here too. I think the sound is dubbed from another live performance but it matches up well.
