Acropora Coloring Tips by Pirates Reef Corals.

- One day, I was browsing my facebook and went to one of my groups and saw this post by Reinaldo of Pirates Reef Corals posting some amazing acroporas. Funny part was that I have the EXACT same corals while it looked great on my tank, he was pulling some unbelievable colors on the same sp of coral. Feeling intrigued, I drove over to visit Reinaldo to learn about his methods and his ways of keeping acros in tip top shape!

Amazing what he has in those frags tanks and the main one as well, going there has to be planned for at least three hours, no less than that but for sure when you leave you are taking a most precious cargo of frags.

Epic video! Love hearing from SPS guru’s. Totally agree with the PO4 at zero comment. If you keep PO4 at zero too long...RTN RTN RTN! Nitrates I keep 3-5 ppm, but I might explore the 10+ ppm side, and see if it makes a difference. I think that older reefs would tolerate this better. New reefs under 1 year really don’t do well with elevated NO3 or PO4. The risk is too high for nuisance algae blooms especially if you started with dry rock. I dose NaNO3 and if I didn’t, my tank would slowly wither away with my depleted level. Thanks for the video man...always great to get different prospectives!

reefs - Ha! Yeah that definitely would have been a typo! Even for Richard Ross! :-) Naw, if you go back and re-read, I was talking about NO3. I keep mine at 3-5 but now I might explore going up to 10 or possibly higher to see if my SPS like it. I’d never go over 20, but 10 might be the sweet spot.

Im not sure that if he does or not. You will have to reach out to him. I know that he uses ab plus from ecotech as the base abd tweaks a little bit.
Great video. 2 questions. How does he lower phosphate? And how does he raise nitrate? Thanks
he doesn't have many fish so I don't think he has to worry about phosphates much. He does weekly water changes and uses GFO. For nitrates, if it's too low, he does nitrate back into the system.

Yes, he doses once a day with acro power.
He does have awesome awesome stuff, can be pricey, but I haven’t seen any actual frags, WWC is pricey also, and I’ve bought from them and their frags are tiny!
T Surro didn’t you get the news? frags are getting smaller and smaller lol. Price of high demands in corals in band and limited aquacultured pieces.

what is the best sea salt close to the ocean ?
Ken, you need to find a salt that works for you and stick to it. Consistency is the name of the game and keeping everything in consistent level is extremely important in mimicing the ocean.

Im sorry but I have no idea what you are asking me. Unfiltered sea water? Why not use ocean water? There is really no way to make unfiltered oceanwater from synthetic salt water.

That’s normal, when you rise particular values to fast... you'll lose Acropora
That "colonies are more vulnerable" line is BS in my opinion...
Mind sharing how you white balanced your camera?
In simple words, 2 percent white card and manual white balance in canon settings. Maybe i will make a video about this.
