So, what can I say about today's episode in relation to the novel? 2:48 Gong Zhi is a staff officer to Wuling's governor Jin Xuan. He urges surrendering the province to Liu Bei, enraging Jin Xuan to the point of almost executing him. His other officials intervene and convince him to commute the sentence to dismissing him from the army. There's no mention of him seeking patronage or anything else with Cao Cao. This whole segment with encountering him on the cape seems to be a Capcom original. In the novel he stays in the city the whole time. 6:58 Jin Xuan did leave the city to confront Liu Bei's army (this time commanded by Zhang Fei), but there wasn't really a battle. Zhang Fei just yelled really loudly, frightening Jin Xuan into retreating to Wuling. 9:44 This part is pretty accurate. Jin Xuan reaches Wuling, gets denounced by Gong Zhi atop the wall, then gets hit in the forehead with an arrow. There's no indication the arrow was shot by Gong Zhi himself, though. After Liu Bei makes Gong Zhi the governor of Wuling, and he's never mentioned again, so presumably he lives happily ever after. 10:16 Getting a little bit ahead of the story here, but yes. That said I doubt there was any connection to the Jin clan. I'll elaborate on this point more probably under the finale episode.
The Jin Dynasty is the name of the Dynasty, and doesn't refer to a surname, as it is the Sima clan that brings it to fruition. I believe it is referred to as an "Era Name." This is similar to how the various Emperors have their given birth names, and also have their own "Emperor Name" or perhaps more correct to consider it a title, as it represents their divine right to rule through the "Mandate of Heaven." You were to never refer to the Emperor by his given name, not even his own family. For example, the current Emperor Xian of Han in the story, his given name is Liu Xie. There's also another category of naming known as "Courtesy Names" which is an additional name given when a child reaches adulthood and is typically used between peers, as using a given name with someone you are considered to be a peer of is disrespectful. This is also why in some translations of the Sanguo Yanyi, Liu Bei is frequently referred to by Xuande, which is his courtesy name. Another example is Mengde, which is Cao Cao.
*Jin Xuan* has his own *unique* overworld sprites, not shared by anyone! _For some reason..._ And also, a *BACKSTABBER* that acted so to _help_ the Han, rather than to *hurt* it! How _nice_ for him, yes?
