Right after I got my first track burner (mid 70's) I would study the sound and closely watch the kerf or the edges the tried to mimic what I saw and heard, I was a fair torchman before this but vastly improved after, something else few do because it takes time is knock the mill scale off your cut line, especially if the cut line gets welded later cuz you will do it anyway.
Best advice was matching tip to metal thickness, tips are cheap, get a full range and make better cuts. don't forget clean sharp tips, I use an end mill tip dresser, better than a file then use long tip cleaners to finish the job.

Thanks for the video, I just picked up my first oxy set a few months ago and was having some troubles with it. the tips help. Can y'all do some on gouging off materials in thick and thin metal? Was easier with 1/4" but the 1/8" I had to remove brackets from I ended up eating most of it and had to remake brackets.

I’m not familiar with the tip sizes you mentioned because in Australia we use metric measurements.
As for cutting speed I always looked for two things a constant smooth flow of sparks and maintaining the correct ☑️ distance from the metal surface.
I would hand cut with perfection 2” plate.
What I would look out for was a long even oxygen cutting stream with a length of six inches.
Good accurate preheating and removal of mill scale using a dry run.
This requires the you scribe every line and pot mark each line accurately along the line.
Best tip is using a cut wheel attachment to keep an accurate distance from the metal.
When cutting heavy gauge materials over time the touch becomes heavier as fatigue increases.

I couldn’t find them to match my tips anywhere. If you have a smith setup the acetylene pressures are higher than victor. I bought a 32$ laminator from target and made my own.

I like the way a clean tip sounds and the whistle sounds when cutting. Looks like I cut it with a knife when I’m done.

I am VERY glad my best friend and mentor taught me how to burn over 40 years aga. If you two would have taught me how to burn I STILL WOULD NOT KNOW HOW TO BURN.
Now keep in mind I have only been burning for 40 years. You are using a dirty tip. I KNOW it is NEW but it is still dirty and you have your tip MUCH to close to your work. AND MORE...

I was lucky also, at age 10 my dad said "Boy you are going to learn how to use a torch" (he owned a welding business) points at this old International harvester four row corn picker and said " I will show you how to cut and wash bolts and nuts" took me all summer to scrap that damn thing out and a lot of burns too. but I got to keep the money from selling the scrap, bought me my first bike. 💰😉👍🏻

@@davescorneroftheworld1147 LOL, I was 10 YEARS OLD, how many 10 year olds can scrap out a machine that big? there was a whole lot more than went into scraping it out, that's why it took ALL summer.I don't have time to explain it all in detail, take it for what it is.

The welding industry requires that you know the difference between Oxygen Acetylene and LPG set up.
It starts with different gas gauge types specific for LPG use and Acetylene.
Also you can not use LPG hoses with Acetylene.
Safety and live longer for your ❤ ones.
