      Narration of majority of my vids are done by me. However, both Tours and Issus are narrated by voice actor. That's because some of my audience have problems understanding what I'm saying due to my accent, and average knowledge of English. As my goal here is to do more and do it better constantly, changes are affecting the voice over part as well, it's easiest to notice obviously.

    It's a popular misconception that they were called "Immortals" at the time, that was just what Herodotus called them and despite being the father of history he was notoriously unreliable when it came to foreign cultures. Made me realise that Alexander was kind of a dick to Parmenion. Parmenion was like almost alone on the left flank with no support and always the last one to get aid from Alexander and his forces. That is understandable because Alexander are in the far right flank and reinforce the center is more logic. Im actually suprised that Parmenion did survive all the battles :O

      Well in my opinion that's because he knew that Parmenion being the experienced general he was would be able to hold on his own.

    I really love this channel and your videos so far man, brilliantly done! Keeps me entertained. Perhaps do alternative (what if) scenarios and alternative time line... If a battle is lost. explain how it could of worked out and how they could of prevented it.... so mention the real history first then go ahead with your own version! Just something to consider?? :D
    Either way ill keep my eyes peeled for new content. Clicked the bell btw

    Why does everyone always call cavalry "Calvary?" Calvary is where Jesus Christ died. Cavalry are soldiers mounted on horses. It's Ca-val-ry. A crucified Jesus didn't break the Persian lines, it was people riding horses. Now that I've gotten that out of the way, I can gush about how much I love this channel and these videos. Really glad youtube recommended this to me. Keep up the good work, and stop talking about Alexander the Great riding with Jesus Crucifixion mountain.

    We need a full review of all battles of the Peninsula War such as Salamanca, Badajos etc. the impact of Wellington’s steady progress across Spain, welding dubious allies together and eventually entering SW France is greatly underestimated. He achieved a lot with quite little and created Napoleon’s bleeding ulcer. He also showed early signs of his genius on the battle field.

    *15 years* of continuous fights undefeated Capturing the greatest part of the then known world against *superpowers* of his time while being *vastly out numbered* and away from his central kingdom and not capable to have a sufficient line of reinforcements due to limitations of transport and economy of that time doesn't "just" make him the Greatest conqueror of antiquity but *of all time*.
    His dominance was not only non existed before his time but also not met an equal till the present day. We can argue that in terms of landmass he has been surpassed by other empires such as the mongolian or the english empire.
    Yet in all the cases we see vastly superior (technological and trained) armies with much better reinforcemt to defeat vastly weaker enemies or tribes.... (example English VS what? native indians? native americans? asian tribes? )
    Alexander the Great isnt just the greatest conqueror of antiquity but the greatest of all time none has come even close to his achievements both in battle and in legacy. Legacy which quite plausibly would continue much further had he not fell ill at a young age and died because of that.
    While as I said we can dispute its achievements comparing landmass as if any piece of land has equal value and determine that there were bigger empires under such terms we can not dispute that the mass majority of the global population of the time was around the mediteranian and asian lands he conquered rendering *2 out of 3 people in the world* being under Greek rulership. Thats why Greek became the common spoken language of the time.
    Its not a coincidence that his title as "The Great" is internationally accepted and not propagated only by his countrymen (because there are a few kings called "the great" in human history but mostly this fame is limited by their own country people)

    "Lighter units of hypaspists and peltasts" ? Im sorry but the Hypaspists were the king's guard how are they "lighter" than the standart phalangite ? They were the most experienced troops on the battlefield second only to the Heitaroi (which served as Alexander's mounted king's guard). The Hypaspists even formed up on the right flank of the Phalanx which was the position of honor in Greek armies. Again second only to the Heitaroi aka The Companion cavalry which formed even more to the right signaling their higher honor.

    • @BazBattles
      @BazBattles  7 лет назад +47

      Alexander had roughly 3,000 of hypaspists prior to Granicus battle. They had to form at least one "rectangle" on the animated battlefield. I knew that somebody will point out their "lighter" character. What I meant was that they were "light" (more nimble, agile and mobile) compared to regular Macedonian phalanx. I'll try to give them few sentences on the upcoming Battle of Gaugamela to avoid any misunderstandings. Thanks for the comment.

    • @renatopereira2315
      @renatopereira2315 7 лет назад +7

      BazBattles As I understand Hypaspistai fought as classical hoplites in the old phalanx formation which was still compact and slow moving ... Maybe its the Peltasts you mean as lighter and more mobile since they were in essence elite assault infantry . Oh and I mean the elite peltasts which were hypaspists or agyaspides (silver shields) equiped as peltasts to serve as assault infantry ... Not to be mistaken with "regular peltasts" which were simply heavy skirmishers. And Thank YOU ! Awesome content !

    • @BazBattles
      @BazBattles  7 лет назад +21

      I'd be more than happy to discuss this with you, but I'm simply overloaded with work to be done, both regular and on upcoming videos. I'm not really happy how I handled hypaspists on this video, as well I'm not happy with alot other things on all of my videos. My desire is to be as accurate as possible, but it's hard to avoid all mistakes, hope this didn't ruin the Issus video for you. Oh, and speaking of mistakes - it's Hetairoi, not Heitaroi :). Also, note that (greek) pronouncation of Hetairoi in this video is also incorrect :)

      Transliteration always gets me :/ The video was awesome , in fact Ill say hands down this is the best history channel on youtube when it comes to visuals and naration (I am biased though ... I have a geneological love for Alexander) ... I just hope that after being done with Alexander you guys cover at least some of the battles of the Diadochoi . Rome is so overdone ... do some Seleukos I Nikator , Antiochos III Megas , Ptolemies fighting the Machimoi , Mithridates VI or even the campaigns of the Persians with Cyrus the Great , the Anabasis of Xenophon. So many campaigns put aside just to hear about Rome rome rome ... I just hope this channel doesnt take that course.
      Oh well I wont take up more of your time . I await impatiently for more videos :)
