Dunes are completely pointless. They serve as an obstacle to development. When my dad bought a beachfront home, we flattened the dune behind the property for better views of the water. Every few years we have to clear it again because naturally builds up over time. We also clear turtle nests because we don’t want them getting close to our property. Yeah the local community tried to raise a fuss but they weren’t willing or able to actually fight it in court. Shows you how weak willed these environmentalists are. I say we flatten the dunes and allow for more coastal development along the coastline.
On the west coast we build dunes passively using our prevailing winds, European Beach Grass and sands from the river-mouths from the north. In Manila we sport a 30' Primary-Dune with an immense deflation-plane acting as a fresh-water wetland, the habitat is extraordinary and protected by the vegetated dunes. Where 'Nativists have removed "non-native" vegetation our wildlife disappeared, wetlands evaporated and erosion has become out-of-control.
The length of the grass probably matters too. I’ve seen a lot of beach restorations plant like 10 ft of grass.
this is well-explained :) like it
I hear a little tongue and cheek in the narrative. Love it.
