Not to mention the eastern bloc countries, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary and Poland basically directly become a functional democracy as soon as the iron curtain fell. So you either embrace authoritarianism and do it in a good way, like Lee Kuan Yew, Deng Xiaoping and Tito, or you go full democracy. No middle ground!
