Thanks for another great video. Sometimes my burnisher seems to slide out leaving marks. I don't know if I am doing something wrong or I don't have the right tool. My questions are: 1) Should I used the tip of the burnisher or the side of it. 2) Do you know where I can buy a burnisher for gypsy setting? Thanks again
Excellent. ..now to head to Rio and get the proper bur bits and drill bits...I'm setting their 3mm mixed lot bs faceted stones...appreciate the quick response to my question and link for the videos. .enjoy your day...not sure the time over there lol. ..
Thank you so much for this, as well as all your other videos. As I am a novice metalworker, and there is no where near me to take classes, I am trying to teach myself through books, magazines and youtube videos. I have read and watched other marvellous artists, but no one I have seen/read yet explains things as well as you. I have read about this setting in 2 places as well as watched a video by another artist. I did not understand until I saw your videos. Thank you for all you do for us.
hi soham im really hoping you can give me some advice Im currently making our wedding rings and I want to use this type of setting but the rings are made from stainless steel any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated
Been watching flush setting videos all morning. Then I came to yours and knew I need not watch another. Appreciated your demonstration. Excellent teaching!
My husband and I very much enjoy your videos. Especially the gypsy setting. I have seen many videos on this method and did not totally understand until watching yours. You are very detailed, precise, enjoyable to listen to and you passed along so many helpful tips. We are so grateful for the shared knowledge. THANK YOU! Dana & David
Can you use this setting technique with faceted stones like peridot or amethyst? Or is it only possible with CZs or diamonds? What stone are you using in the video?
I can just about make anything i put my mind to like my dad.............so why pay through the nose from for jewellry when i could make simple settings for exotic stones. Thx
I also watched your video "Chain Link with Gypsy Setting." Why do you NOT need to use a setting bur step in that case? And would you use the burnisher on the chain link the same way as you do in this video?
+Leah M it is just the size of the stone and the hole. the culet keeps the stone centered, but you can use a stone setting burr if you like. i just use the side of the burnisher, but you could use the tip if you can see what you are doing. you can use this technique on any faceted stone. i was using a cz, but only because they are inexpensive.for a demo.
+soham harrison So it is just that the stone is smaller, 1.5 mm, instead of 4 mm diameter, so you don't need to cut a seat with a setting bur. And you don't need to do as much with the burnisher at different angles for the same reason. I guess that makes sense since there is not as much metal around a tiny stone. Thank you for replying!
Thank you! this is the first time I have been able to really understand this setting. I love your videos and am so happy to have found you!
Thank you for your video. It really help me for my school assinment. Also your explaination is very clear and easy to follow
Did you make your own burnisher?
