I work in the funeral trade and quite often encounter suicide victims wearing the brown scapular. I do pray that they've got what they were hoping for.
Faithful brown scapular wearers, who pray the Rosary daily are bombarded by evil more than those happily living the lie that, "All you have to do to get to Heaven is just......die". I wonder at the mental stability of those you have encountered. Mental illness is a serious thing, and many suffering from it attach themselves to religious practices fervently. Are the scapulars brand new? Are they tattered from years of being worn? Did a family member or someone else place one on the deceased in hopes for mercy? The promises of our Lady are rock solid. She does not lie. One must live the exercises she told to St. Simon Stock, not just throw it on as a talisman of sorts. We don't know their situation, but again, our Lady always points us towards her Son for salvation. Agreeing with you that we hope they went to Heaven.
I know not as to wether or not I was enrolled in this particular confraternity at my first communion but my scapular and I, for wearing it, have been blessed. It is my understanding that my scapular carry’s the same promises from Our Blessed Mother. Being enrolled in the Confraternity of the Most Holy Rosary, I don’t believe our Blessed Mother would deny me

The scapular promises apply only to those who, as Our Lady said, are "clothed" in this part of the religious habit -- that is, formally invested, as the religious are when they receive their habit. It would be a very simple matter to ask a priest to to enroll you in the Confraternity of the Brown Scapular. There is also no harm whatsoever in being enrolled more than once, so if there is any doubt about having been properly invested at the time of one’s First Holy Communion, it is highly advisable to be enrolled as an adult. Also very important is to be sure that you will be able to receive the Sabbatine Privilege promised by Our Lady. One of the conditions of this is the daily performance of a pious work - by default, the recitation of the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary. But any priest is authorized to allow you to substitute a daily five-decade Rosary in place of reciting the office. I'm just a nobody but from my understanding it needs all the required elements, the prayer, the date, the image of Mary with rays from her hands, the back is surrounded by 12 stars but no star above the Cross, the M supporting the Cross, the 2 flaming hearts of Jesus and Mary one with a sword going through it and one surrounded by thorns.

Father, if a person was entered into the Confraternity of the Scapular at First Holy Communion, is that lifelong? Can you just wear a blessed Scapular or do you have to be entered into the Confraternity?
The Fatima Center made me love the brown scapular some years ago.

I have two questions. How does one become enrolled into the Confraternity? Does wearing the Miraculous Metal afford one the same protection?
