You mentioned you had a favorite antenna?

hi, i got this radio and the new uv 5r plus. on both radios the sma connector of the radios are shorted. i did a continuity test with my multimeter and in both radios the sma pin and the sma part where you screw the antenna are shorted which means there is no ground on the sma connector so whether you use a ground or not it doeasnt matter or maybe makes things worse. on every other radio i have the sma connector is as it is supposed to be.
also on the back of the radio on the baterry pins, which are on the back top the negative is connected to both the sma pin and the part where you screw the antenna. but the ground which is the middle baterry pin is not connected anywhere.
can you check your radio if it is shorted ? or mabe this is how they come out from the factory ?
    thanks

Mal schauen was zukünftige Firmware Updates bringen.

Sandor, how have you measured the harmonics ? I assume you were using an external ATT with about 40dB + the internal 30dB. Can you measure again but please reduce the internal to 10db and the RBW to, lets say 100kHz or less. Also the Antenna was much worser on my unit. SWR about 5 on 2m and 2,5 on 70cm (Anritsu S331E & VIAVI JD724/745). 73 Bernd DK5BM

I used an external 30dB ATT. With some time, I can redo the test with less ATT and smaller bandwidth. I also got a second one and so I have a second antenna to measure. Maybe there are differences, like yours , which is much worse. vy73 Sandor - DM4DS

Info on expanded receive would be much more useful than transmit.

@johnwest7993 what do you mean by expanded RX? Sensitivity or what? It receives on the frequencies it transmits.... maybe I don´t understand the comment. vy73 Sandor - DM4DS

40 db down is out of spec.. In minimum should be 50... Better 60 db

@@juergenw7495 Yes, FCC recommend -40dBc for radios up to 25 watts. But BNetzA says -60dBc up to 1GHz and this radio will not reach it (other radios do, but none of the chinese FCC approved radios).

@@Bernie_DK5BM yep.. i think in austria (im from there) its 50 or 55db im not 100% sure.
