This song... represents 8 months of torment and anger brought on by life, I'm 46 and have known this song since it came out, lyrics and all. Yesterday this song came on. I replayed it, then put it on repeat, for 10 hours. Now I hear myself in this song. It's the man I let myself become, now, after this song, I'm changing that. Quittin a shitty job next week, starting two new ones, and going to church and praying to God all day every day God bless any of you struggling mentally, you've got this, keep going, it's come around even better.
all talk no action is what it means i use this line in my daily life past musicians??? these guys are living ledgends and very active still in the rock world......
Reading all the dumb shit on social media made my think of this song. “The empty can rattles the most” & “These times are sent to try men’s souls” Metallica is arguably the best lyrical metal band of all time.
My whole family makes fun of me, mostly my cousins sometimes my parents and its not like playful its like about my flaws and appearance so i grew up with a lot of hate in me but metallica has helped me alot thank you God for this band.
What makes this song is the majestic bass line, combined with the drums with sound almost filter-esque, Hetfield's lyrics that hit close to home and finished off with the guitar solo that isn't over complicated but sounds like a battle of two armies to see who comes out on top.
People give them so much shit but the depth to this band is unfathomable. I've been listening to them since I was 11, seen them live - took my son to his first metal show at 11. There is a reason they are the kings of metal!
Listened to 80s metallica all throughout high school. Played their songs like fade and sanitarium in my band. Even had their guitar hero. Started to listen to the other songs on the black album and this one blew me away
rediscovering the black album. My Kuya introduce me to this black labeled cassette back in 1993 and since then I started blasting our speakers to its limit. I still remember when my old man heard it and ask me to turn it down a bit and rewind the cassette on side A and sat and listened carefully on the lyrics. after a few tracks he said its ok to listen to this kind of music and he approved! one of my vivid memory of my Dad.
Song describes my worst enemy in my life, who became friends with one that I was friends from the fucking beginning…Cannot describe the hatred and disappointment I feel about this situation. It is really hard to see,how the guy you were pretending to be brothers with is now wishing for your death…Thank you Metallica for this song.. \m/
Metallica have so many fans in iran and because metallica never been in iran there is some grup that plays metallica's musics without vocal and fans sing insted
@@brandonhendricks6396 you are right that is the word, but is the message not the same?In my mind learning is merely the process of hearing , seeing , and feeling , similar things in similar situations?
That song is from 1991 and the lyrics describe perfectly the mindset og the Social Justice Warriors in the second decade of the 21th century. 30 years after James wrote the lyrics. I guess nothing has changed.
why??? now go to madonna video and write this, the same thing. because cliff has nothing to do with these song. stupid fanboys of cliff. you are all boring with RIP CLIFF

"They say the empty can rattles the most." Damn, that line gets me.
these people ( past musicians) are real poets
@@Benheart10 still musicians tho lol
I'm the empty can. I rattle at the slightest shake. It's tiring, waiting for the can to be refilled with life again one day.
ITS A POLITICAL REFERENCE

Greatest metal band period 🤘
That’s right! Well respect! Nobody can dare to fucking beat them! This music nowadays is full of shit! Metal girl here!
how arguable? Metallica has the best lyrics in metal genre in general. nobody makes better lyrics than James.
as much as I love Gojira because of their lyrics all the instrumental aside. nobody tops Metallica in terms of lyrics.
@@eetfuk3571 agreed
This band helped raise me. Amazing what music can do.
Mood. I hope life goes well for you! 🖤🖤🖤
They’re not just a music band , they’re a life with all meaning that it has .. thank you guys. And I know it’s not enough for you
That intro should be longer and never end..
it never ended tho?
This is the best song of this album. It has some legendary lines like:
Empty cans rattle the most
one man' fun is other's hell
MISERY lOVES COMPANY
This last line is so deep and so true.
One mans fun is anothers hell....
escaping bullshit?
where's your crown king nothin
That's one of the biggest truths of this fucking life.
together with "only" by nine inch nails, king nothing is my favorite metal song about the ego
Yeah especially when mans not hot.
Hetfield is a genius.
Bonardi 1989 totally agree. Best lead man in a band ever. One of the best songwriters ever.
@@scottstewie5370 absolutely.
jason newsted wrote it not hetfield.
And bob rock wanted to have vocals because the mainstream
@Qustoge he also came up with the lyrics

One of the best songs by Metallica!!! Truly awesome!!!
They dont have a bad song :)

3:28 the proof that music without words can be so deep . man it touches my soul to hear this part .
This song is fucking deep! Hetfiels us a genius.
best lyrics in metal ever. NOBODY IS CLOSE
Actually Jason wrote this song lol. In fact it was originally supposed to be an instrumental. Take a look at the original song
That´s because songs like this one, that this album is still selling like hell, today.

This an Harvester of Sorrow are two of my favourites
This song has everything and the solo is a freaking plus!!!
Thank You Jason Newsted for this Masterpiece!
One of the greatest metal bands to come out of the 80's! Long live Metallica! 🤘
I was 16 went i started listening to metallica now I'm 33 ...these solo represents my teen age years ...

One of my favourite melodic breaks in any Metallica is in this song.
This is almost everyone that truly cares and I know that the truth lies with each beat
thinking of my pops, remembering all the good times... heading for a better future.
St King Jason

The worst thing about this song is that it ends!
The guitar riff in this song is orgasmic
Such an underrated song, makes me feel like James singing us me talking to my past suicidal self
great song
Why nobody talks about Kirk ?? his solo and outro is legendary...
The sound of your own voice must soothe you...

3:20 complete bliss
The bass is a tribute to cliff Burton's pulling teeth
I always thought so. Jason plays the same notes as in pullin teeth in the beginning but in another order
That song is from 1991 and the lyrics describe perfectly the mindset og the Social Justice Warriors in the second decade of the 21th century. 30 years after James wrote the lyrics. I guess nothing has changed.
I like this song because it kind of confirms that all the metal songs are talking to the same kid.
