Michael really pioneered several trends, but the coolest one in my opinion is how he gets right up close to the condenser microphone and uses the different subtle sounds he makes between the words. Some are naturally occurring mouth sounds that he exaggerated and some are fabricated, but they are all very interesting and add flavor to otherwise mundane vocal lines. (Not this song, it’s not mundane, but plenty others) 😊

Honestly I think this is a very educational example of how synthesizers actually work. It's almost like making different noises by modulating a saw wave, but you're doing it by recording a physical object that produces something like a saw wave, in a bunch of variations.
Sine wave. But yes! synths are where frequency in electronics crosses over into music.
Literally what I hate about synthwave. No music theory or cords of any kind, just poppy sounding slop. It gets really annoying more and more.
