    I am a solid 4.5 player and strung my Pure Drive (2015) with Alu power rough ( also tried Alu Power Spin) and a cross of Addiction as well as with RPM Blast and Addiction. I noticed that the Alu cut right through the multi in less than half the time. I also found that the RPM and Addiction felt much crisper. But then again i am stringing the mains with the poly at 55 and the crosses with Addiction at 58. I do feel the RPM gives me a little better control. Hope this helps.

    Hey TW, super video. we need more of these! hope you guys had a pro hurricane tour vs rpm blast review given that the RPM is the spiritual successor to the PHT and many users would have considered migrating to RPM (or at least trying it out).
    I'm using pro hurricane tour for years now. I've been using the following setups and looking for a little more power with minimal sacrifice on control, as control and spin are key to my game.
    The first decision I took was last year (2016) when I changed racquet from the PS 90 to the Yonex Duel G 330 (enjoying the switch so far). for the Yonex 330 I have switched to a Wilson leather replacement grip (+11 grams) and it makes the racquet more HL and is near perfect now.
    Past setups:
    4 years
    PS90 with PHT 16g at 52 lb
    PS90 with PHT 17g at 52 lb
    last 12 months, 2016
    Yonex Duel G 330 Wawrinka with PHT 17g at 52 lb
    I'm now looking at the RPM blast and ALU power / ALU power rough as replacements.
    with all the above info of my setups and motive, could you give a quick view on PHT vs RPM & PHT ALU power / rough as possible replacements.
    thanks so much!

      @ Sharan Narain,
      ALU Power sounds like it would be a good fit for you, as it will be softer and livelier than RPM Blast and will give you more control than ALU Rough.

      Hey Andy thanks.
      I used the ALU power rough yesterday at 52 lbs in my Yonex Duel G 330. Was ok and I wanted to like it :) but I never found my confidence in it. was too soft for me maybe.
      I then went back to the PHT in my second racquet and was back in heaven. I could feel the right ball through my arm. stability on contact. maybe I'm just used to PHT - nothing really wrong with the ALU power rough IMO
      Since I've got the strings for testing, next up is RPM blast and as you're saying I could enjoy ALU power that will be right after RPM blast!
      I have this feeling I'm coming back to PHT at the end of it all, but I have a fear of missing out on newer strings based on reviews and want to try them.
      Anyway, thanks for your reply. love the website and reviews. keep them coming!
      Cheers

    I would like to share my experience regarding the Alu Power 16L hybrid with natural gut. It felt fantastic from the first hit. The power and RPM is unbelievable. However, after 5 to 10 hours of hitting, the feel would change completely. Power and feel is kind of lost after that. I don't believe it was the problem of the natural gut because I used the gut with Luxilon 4g in the past, the good feel lasted at least 50% longer. I would recommend 4G over alu power for natural gut hybrid unless you are a pro and wants the great feel from the first minute and don't really care how long it lasts.

    Obviously it depends in your game style. if you are an agressive player like Roger Federer you will choose ALU Power, but if you are a defensive player like Rafael Nadal you will choose RPM Blast; because of the power and the spin.

    Hi TW and thanks for this nice comparison. Question to Chris: I do play with pure drive frames since a while , strung with RPM blast 1.30 (53 lbs). I'm currently switching to the pure drive plus and I wonder whether I should adjust something on the string tension and gauge. It seems you're considering lower tension than I do. I'm tempted to give a try to mid 40 string tension but get a doubt on my ability to keep the ball in with such combo. Any thought on RPM 1.25 vs 1.30 and any string tension recommendation? Thank you and keep going on the good job guys!

    • @tenniswarehouse
      @tenniswarehouse  8 лет назад

      I'll jump in for Chris here if you don't mind...The Plus version will give you more power and easier access to depth, so if you want a similar response in terms of power and control. Chris has gone lower in tension for a bit more power and well as the fact that he is enjoying the added "ball pocketing" at contact that the lower tension gives you. As far as gauges, the thinner 1.25mm will give you a little livelier response with a bit more spin while the thicker 1.30mm gauge will give you more control and durability. The best way to know what works best for you is simply to experiment because tension is very much a personal preference thing. Try a couple of different setups and see which one feels best to you!

    well if it is the alu power rough then it will win, RPM is just good when it comes to high amount of topspin but in terms of deep shots I go with ALU power rough esp when you hybrid it to a natural gut or a good multi IMO.

  • @leonardoschahin3133

    I found that Alu Power is a less forgiving type of string. For me it worked only when I managed to hit it closer to the center of the racquet. And RPM Blast is too stiff for me. I would have to lower its tension to mid 40s and even then, I would have to worry about wrist pains and also loss of control.

    • @tenniswarehouse
      @tenniswarehouse  4 года назад

      They both offer a lot of control. RPM has a slicker surface, and could be a good hybrid option. That said it does not maintain tension as well as Hyper-G, and I prefer Hyper-G as it plays more consistently over time. If you are thinking about trying something new, I might even consider Babolat RPM Team, as it plays like RPM Blast but holds tension better. Troy, TW

      So far, alu power (ice blue) is my favorite string on this racquet. You can check my video on youtube where I practice so you get an idea of my playing style.
      Alu outstands for me for a variety of reasons. As Andy once said "controllable power". Absolutely agree. +it is comfortable. +the feel is amazing.
      I think I have been improving my game due to this string, because it made me 'feel' the different strokes I have, while many other strings give a much 'general response' (kindof the same output with different strokes). Alu responds more to what kind of stroke you are doing. Alu power allows you to do everything: slice, topspin, touch, and what I enjoy the most with this string: crushing the ball. Not many strings allow me to crush the ball as I often feel disconnected and unconfident, and even if I do, it decreases the inherent power on the stroke. That is just my review.
      I know your post is old, but maybe my comments are still useful :P
      best wishes :)

    Why is this different from your strings reviews? In the reviews of these 2 strings, you guys give a higher comfort and power score for rpm blast...

    • @tenniswarehouse
      @tenniswarehouse  8 лет назад +1

      @ Kevin Peng,
      While we try and keep our scores consistent in all our reviews, it can be difficult sometimes to compare scores between one string and another for a couple of reasons. The testers may be different, so the "scale" on how they are scoring is going to be subjective and often times different. Also, it's natural to score the reviewed strings in relation to whatever we have been recently hitting at the time, so if the reviews are done many months apart, the scoring "scale" may be a little different. We do the best we can, but these are just natural issues that are difficult to avoid.
      With that said, we feel like these String Comparison videos allow us to more accurately compare two strings with each other because the points of reference for each tester are now the same. Instead of relying on whatever each playtester's personal preference is, now we are able to directly compare two products and offer a precise comparison between the two.

      @ShengKangChia,
      You can’t really go wrong with either of these two co-poly strings in a hybrid. I personally would go with Luxilon ALU Power, because of the slightly better tension maintenance, and the crisper feel which I think pairs better with a softer hybrid string. If you go gut in the mains you will get a bit better power and feel on the ball. If you go with a poly in the mains you will get a bit more control, and durability.

      @tenniswarehouse  2 года назад

      RPM Blast has a somewhat unique feel, in that it is definitely stiff but it also has a very slick surface or coating. So after testing, and playing with it many times, we think that the stiffness of the string is less noticeable for those players who hit with a lot of topspin, because of the ease at which it slides and snaps back. Someone who hits with flatter strokes might find the feel of RPM Blast to be quite stiff, because they're not tapping into the string snapback. I am not saying that we never disagree, but this is something that we noticed and may help explain the different thoughts. Troy, TW

    If you string Alu Power at 21 kgs, would it be much better on your arm? I’ve heard that going lower in tension on this string does that but keeps the control aspect (as long as it’s not so low that it has that trampoline effect). I’m using a 2002 Head i prestige with 93 inches and I hit hard and flat. Thanks

    • @tenniswarehouse
      @tenniswarehouse  Год назад +1

      Usually by going lower in tension, it will help reduce some of the string-bed stiffness, which could help with the comfort a bit. I think that especially with a smaller headsize and tight string pattern like the i.Prestige Mid, you should lower the tension anyways when using a full bed of poly. As far as being much better on your arm? well I guess that depends on what you are comparing it to? You will still find more comfort with a natural gut, or a multifilament, but those will also play quite a bit different as well. Troy, TW

I’m 58 and haven’t played tennis since 1985 when I was one of nick Bolletieri’s elite protégés on full scholarship along with Andre Agassi, Jim Courier, David Wheaton, and Martin Blackman…and back then I used the Adidas GTX Pro Lendl racket (72 square inch head) and used natural gut at 72 pounds. I broke rackets sometimes but that’s also because I had the hardest forehand of us all back then and now that I’ve returned to play some serious tennis, I’ve only found the I.prestige rackets to suit my game. I tried technifibre x-one biphase 1.18mm in mains and Alu power in crosses (19 kgs and 18 kgs) but way too much power and not enough control. The rackets with full set of Alu power at 19 & 17 kgs was too trampoline for me and now I’ve tried 21 kgs and 20 kgs. My arm feels fine and I’m hitting the ball literally like o did back then with the Lendl racket. I highly recommend using a full set of Alu power at a lower tension but I had to try over 10 set ups and rackets to find the perfect set up. I beat Andre back then so give me another 1.5 years of futures tournaments and getting in top shape and I’ll challenge my lil buddy Andre to a rematch. I’ll be 60 and he 55. I’m extremely proud of him and what he achieved. I have no regrets but I’m here to inspire others at my age that you can play serious tennis again if you do what is needed. Thanks for replying. A little video idea: At some point you could discuss e.g what string has the most spin potential, in your opinion and maybe discuss it comparing your personal experience (maybe playtesting it again with e.g two playtesters) to the stats of TW university. Maybe compare the two best spin potential strings (for stats in TW university) or maybe compare one string that has high spin potential in stats of TW university and compare it with a string that is popular "because of spin" but it doesn't necessary have to have high spin potential in the TW university stats.
    And by the way, you are the absolute best

    The only reason that Rpm is even considered to be a premium poly is because of its brand. Imo Babolat poly is overpriced and overrated. There are a whole bunch of string that can substitute for Rpm.. msv, cyclone, at half price. Rpm feels dead to begin with, feels worse when drops tension after 3 days

    Hello tennis wonder-cave! I know this is slightly irrelevant with the review made on this video but I would like to ask something if I may. I tend to generate my own power a lot during my games, I' ve tried various strings, but none did impress me that much so far including RPM blast. Thing is I tend to really swing the racket hitting with all the power i have left usually, I was in between of ALU power rough after some people suggested me and maybe the more muted Head Hawk. I ve only tested Alu spin from luxilon line and i was quite pleased but it broke after 15 games which was kind of disappointing considering its price. Rest were simply OK (some options include RPM blast, Team) and now I am playing with a hybrid of NXT and Lynx which really is bad for me because whenever i decide to hit the ball simply goes off like an airplane. What would you think it would be a good choice given the description out of the two? Or maybe if you have another suggestion i am open to it! My stick is a Babolat Pure Strike 16x19. Thank you in advance, keep it up!
    Best,

    This is a very nice comparison thanks for posting. But I would have to disagree with the Luxilon being more powerful than the RPM Blast. I own two racquets both customized identical with swing weight and string tension. Using the Pocket Radar Coach I found the RPM Blast more powerful by 10-15% in speed especially when serving.

    • @movingforwardtennis2937
      @movingforwardtennis2937 Год назад

      I find that “power” strings are for people who swing fast and have personal power. Therefore the string usually stiffer to keep more energy in the spin and less in the ball speed. So by your description the ball speed is faster with same arm swings and therefor string is bouncier/springier. Yes delivering more speed but maybe better for a lower -powered player.
      Unfortunately a “power” racquet is used opposite to describe a large head usually light racquet with head heavy balance. Best used by some players with lower personal power who want to get more from the racquet. Vs a control or players racquet which is usually smaller and heavier and less springy.

      For enhanced feel, we would go with ALU Power, and even the 1.20 gauge might give you a better feel, as they tightened up the string pattern a bit on the PS97 v13. For tension, that is mostly personal preference, but we usually would go about 52 pounds on that racquet with a full poly. I string lower around 48 pounds with full poly, and use a dampener.
