The Super Boots didn't enhance Mario's jumping techniques in any way - he just didn't realize he could do that kind of move in this game until Toadette told him so. There's something charming, in it's own way, about those kind of "obvious traps" in games. Taking an established game mechanic or piece of scenery, and making it look the right mix of "obviously handmade" and "clearly the person making it tried their best"... I dunno', it's just goofy, in an endearing way. Super Paper Mario even one-upped this, by letting you harass whomever sets these things up by going around it, or delaying things. Like a box propped up with a stick, there's just this "... D'aww" to it.
Your comments about the First Strikes reminded me of an interview for Kirby & the Forgotten Land where the devs mentioned that they made the hit detection cheat in the player's favor in that if an attack looks like it'll hit, then the game registers it as such.
>>Builds cage with vertical openings. >>Puts cage in spot where an exit location is clearly visible and accessible after getting Super Boots for the Punies to escape. Really great plan there, Crump.
7:53 How do these Jabbi fights even work internally? 10:07 So, uh, did X-nauts manage to cut a fake pedestal for a Sun stone and rig a trap to it, but not unearth a Crystal Star after all that time? Big procrastinators they are, I can respect that. 13:47 Butt Stomp also works
when i played the original game, i somehow ran into a bug where i still had 11 punies that could still follow me after the sequence with all the punies getting captured. this provided zero advantages for me and, in fact, made it _more annoying_ to return after getting the super boots, because the punies i had kept getting stuck when i was trying to return to the point where everyone else got captured.
Uhh, Skawo, the paper flap that indicates the shop's presence was ALWAYS there. It was the one dead giveaway that they gave players to indicate that it was there. Not something that was added.
@@Skawo Nope, even rewatching your playthrough from 7 years ago, there is a flap there, and you specifically pointed that out as being not "very well hidden". You played yourself. (btw this comes from part 15 of said let's play)
2:20 actually, if you pick the other option here, Jabble runs away, but if you exit and re-enter the room, he'll be there again, so then you can let him join. So your choices don't really matter
@@Skawo Nope! It's not. He'll be there if you exit the shop and re-enter in the original. Can confirm because I made him run away a bunch by accident.
5:44 To be fair, the Punies seem to walk faster so at least you don't lose them because of that anymore. 10:32 The irony of this considering you need the Punies to get the Crystal Star as the Puni elder mentioned! Although admittedly it will give Crump an advantage later... 13:09 Obviously glad that's the case, but at the same time I'll miss "You got a Super Boots!" as that was pretty funny.
6:49 you know situations like this reminds me of how convenient it'd be if you had a whistle like the captains in Pikmin so you could call Punis from a distance without directly touching them
You know I wonder what happens if you try using Flurrie to reveal that hidden pipe next to the fake orb pedestal I mean probably nothing but I haven’t seen anyone try yet
Now that you got the super boots, it’s time to do some major backtracking throughout Rougeort, and chapters 1 and 2 as it’s time to gather even more star pieces. Have fun.
5:39 I got frustrated in my own playthrough because I didn't know that the Piders I was ignoring will scare the Punies. I eventually took out my frustration on the Piders and then got confused on why it suddenly became so much easier to bring the Punies across. Wish the game was this version a little more than a decade ago, the text boxes make it clear that the Piders are what made the Punies scatter. 9:44 Here's a little secret, after this happened, I thought I could get around it by leaving all the punies behind and then activating that fake pedastal so that Crump only locks Mario and his partners in the cage that they can easily escape from. The game was smarter than me though, every Puni that isn't following you gets teleported into the cage.
Doesn't Punio actually say Dried Shrooms happen to be his favorite food in the original? The way the remake has him clearly forcing himself out of respect for Petuni's kindness-which he explicitly acknowledges afterwards, even-felt different from what I remember in the GC days. Also, I find it rather funny how getting the, ahem, "Spin Jump" pretty much instantly and permanently renders the Power Jump badge wholly pointless. Unless you want to stack a bunch of 'em together, I suppose :V
Rest in peace "You Got A Super Boots!" ...

They avoided getting stuck in a cage by getting stuck outside it.
Should have just left them and called everyone with the elder

13:09 Sadness. They fixed the typo.
they probably fixed the typo for [SPOILER] as well
With the backtracking fixes in other chapters, the walkway with the Piders is probably the single most tedious thing in the main game now.
being unable to skip the between-battle cutscenes in chapter 3
14:12 i guess those are some aerodynamic SHOES.
although they dont seem to care too much about your normal jumps, for whatever reason that is.
You get the Super Boots really early in this game, i had to wait until Chapter 3 in PM64
We get some pumped up kicks
