Hey man this is a really high quality video. You provided actual insights into his play beyond just a surface level, backed up what you said with specific video examples, and offered a concrete opinion while staying away from the crutch of tired truisms that dominate amateur scouting. I've been a consumer of the prospect scene for a decade and a half and this type of content may as well be a unicorn. Thanks for posting.
What Jacob said 💪🔥 keep these coming my guy, great stuff, definitely subbed. My habs are rumored to trade Ben Chariot to Toronto, and Matthew Knies keeps popping up, and because of you, I like what i see
He's 9 games into his career and has already had a massive impact on the team. His size, strength, and hands have been a boon for the Leafs down low in the offensive zone and those atributes helped lead to the GWG that saw the Leafs move on to round 2!
This is beautiful to watch! The amount of talent and hockey iq it takes to do this on a nightly bases is insane! And he's 6'3? I must be dreaming! Please leafs don't screw this up!
So glad I got recommended this video at this moment in Knies career. Just played 5 straight playoff games, assisted the game winning Tavares goal, top 6 on a line with matthews. Wow
5:45 What about playing on the top line in the playoffs, being on the ice for every ot winner, and setting up john tavares for the series clinching goal?
Gophers fan here. Watching him play has been the highlight of the season for me. I would add that he takes it up a notch when playing top teams and star players ie Hughes. The kid is a beast. I hope he sticks around college for two more years.
@@tannermighton6800 when his college season is over this year the Leafs intend on signing him and even get him in a few games toward the end of the season. Just hope they dont burn a year off his ELC in doing so in a way. Could use a top prospect on an ELC for the full 3 years lol! Kid looks like he would be a perfect winger for the JT and Willy line though!
I was about to post the same comment… atleast in the aspect of his size, puck protection and being real good in tight. He seems like the kind of player that would compliment star players very well.
Looks like he's going to be a good NHL'er. The Leafs don't need to rush him to the NHL, but it would be fun to see how he does on a line with Matthews and Marner in a pre-season game this year.
Dubas will give him ten million AAV in his first deal. Unfortunately one of the big guns, whether it be Tavares marner or whoever, will be exiting Toronto to keep the band together
He reminds me a little of Adam Fantilli !!! I know it’s high praise… Considering Fantilli is considered #3 overall in the 2023 NHL Draft… But that’s how much I like that kid (Knies) 😅🤷♂️ And I’m not even a Leafs fan. I’m actuallya HABS fan 🥲🥲
Good question and great comparison. At this point in his career, very similar in terms of offensive style although not with the same degree of high-end skill, but Knies is much more physical and uses his frame to his advantage in all areas of the ice than JVR was/is.
Took Engvall 5-6 years to realize this 😂 Knies is also better in small spaces and will be cheaper with control now. He's not even in his man body and will improve. 20yr old vs 26-year-old
I think he be good play maker in NHL cuz their is trend towards smaller skill players and weaker players like Hughes bros. They can’t handle Knies’s net drives.
I disagree they wouldn't be able to handle it, you see guys like Quinn Hughes get beat alot by stronger players, what I like about knies is that he is so hard to knock off the puck, if that translates to the NHL which is what his game depends on he could be a great middle top 6 forward with the ability to compliment star players
@@paoloricci4569 being a power forward has nothing to do with fighting. It's a term attributed to players that use their physical presence to create offense.
@@paoloricci4569 Sure did, and power forward was the term for guys in the 6'2 and up range that could use their size to dominate offensively. Sure lots of power forwards fought, but that wasn't what made them power forwards.

I hope dubas can convince his good friend Ben Meyers to come to Toronto as well that would be awesome.
Brian I want him for the Leafs the ultimate Arizonia connection
Arizona is starting to produce some high quality hockey players. It's a testament to ever growing youth hockey program's in the stste of Arizona.
Wow! Can't wait for Matthew's 1st game with the Leafs‼️💯🔥
First time watching his highlights. Incredible how similar he does look to Auston Matthews
Plus he was born in Phoenix, Arizona and his name is Matthew lol
@@funtimes8296 Matthews was born in Cali
The way he steals the puck is almost identical to Auston, exciting to watch!
Thought the same thing. Austin has that awesome shot though, few will ever have that.

He kinda reminds me if Tyler Bertuzzi a bit.. he would be great complaint piece with Matthews and Marner in a couple is years
Matthew knies will 100% be a top 6 fwd
@Kirk Tuss No chance, he will go straight to the NHL.
3:39 incredible defending by Hughes
Elite some would say 😂
Well look at that - 1 year later and he's on the leaf's playoff line-up. Great insight! Keep it up.
Very Very Very well done. Every youth hockey program in Minnesota should own this video! Next up, Snuggy?
These videos are the best. So insightful… love learning about what makes these players elite.
Man I can't wait to see this kid on the Leafs. We need LWs and we have a beaut in the NCAA
Great video, really enjoy your content.
You forgot his willingness to get in front of an opponents shot. Complete stud.

2 Zona boys named Matty on the leafs. Unreal!! Both big boys too
"Or become a play driver in the top 6" Came here cause I'm geeked on Knies and tentatively on the top 6 for game 5.
he legitimately looks like a baby Matthews. And he’s a winger… Knies - Matthews - Marner
Dubas will give him ten million AAV in his first deal. Unfortunately one of the big guns, whether it be Tavares marner or whoever, will be exiting Toronto to keep the band together
Bunting-Matthews-Marner is too good right now. Would love to see him with Tavares and Nylander though.
@@PDMcG1091 By the end of tavares contract the refs will be able to outskate him. oh wait they already can
@@PDMcG1091 Tavares most likely be back for home-town deal once his contract up like Spezza was. And at that price he will still be useful.
Great video. Looking forward to seeing him play in the Olympics.
He looks pretty dam good 👍👍👍👍 who do u think will go for him ???? I really hope the Kings draft him !!!!!!
Loved the analysis. Does Knies remind anyone of Josh Anderson? I know that might make some ears bleed lol
Banger vid as usual EP
this man is incredibly athletic. very similar build and playstyle to matthews (not comparing them, but there are similarities). hes a top 6 lock imo
Great breakdown.
But at 4:16 you wanted him to throw a backhand pass to the trailer who clearly had a defender within a stick length???
he will be a star
dont care what haters say
the kid is going to be on JT or Matthews LW very soon
Find out tomorrow
I guess Dubas is holding onto this young player. Looking forward to having him in Toronto
Casual Dubas W
whoa....kid has skills
Talent
hes actually sick, the things he lacks are all skills you can work on with NHL trainers and players. LETS FCKING GO TORONTO

But that’s how much I like that kid (Knies) 😅🤷♂️
And I’m not even a Leafs fan.
I’m actuallya HABS fan 🥲🥲
He protects the puck like McDavid and most skilled players. Hopefully the NHL calibre d-men won't render him impotent.
Is a JVR comparaison legit?
Good question and great comparison. At this point in his career, very similar in terms of offensive style although not with the same degree of high-end skill, but Knies is much more physical and uses his frame to his advantage in all areas of the ice than JVR was/is.
Man....put this guy on the left side with Matts and Marner and it game over.
This guy seems like a coach’s wet dream
How we went in the second round is beyond comprehension
Dubas drafts gems often, he gets way too much hate. Topi is a beast too
Did he hits a lot?
Looking forward to seeing him in a leafs jersey
he reminds me of a jonathan toews in his prime and possibly even better.
He rises in April
How come in not in the nhl yet
Knies will be in TOP 6 probably 1st line with Matthews and Marner if not 2nd line replacing Pansy Pyjama Boy
Look at the way this kid possess and controls the puck, it's very similar to Brad Marchand!,
looks like he has play driving ability imo
how different is he from Engvall? If you do his highlights, it will be the same.
Took Engvall 5-6 years to realize this 😂 Knies is also better in small spaces and will be cheaper with control now. He's not even in his man body and will improve. 20yr old vs 26-year-old

thank god Dubas refused to part with this guy. 🍁
so the best wingman for mast sundin is mats sundin. This kid plays alot like mats sundin. me likey.
In this pic he look like Robby from Cobra Kai
3:40 "This is disgusting defending".
Me: This is why I didn't like Luke Hughes to begin with.
and nobody has accused him of being a good passer
Nathan Horton 2.0 or at best Jeremy Roenick👌
If the leafs give him up I’m going to puke

Poor man's matthews with a worse shot
Just about every NHL player is a poor man's Matthews with a worse shot compared to Matthews.
Will most likely be junk.
Can he go on the wing with John Tavares tomorrow? John needs help, now, and Nylander and Kerfoot are garbage for him.
hint: tavares is the problem with the line
