Before you mention it, there's no need to remove the rigid plastic overflow tube, just separate the tube where the rubber portion meets the rigid - much easier. If you do remove it like I did (learning process), it can be reinstalled, just a bit of a pain. The center bolt at the end of the tank allows you to get that plastic cover piece out of your way which gives you better access to the other two bolts. Otherwise, there's no real reason to remove it...
