  • We built this particular TerraDrop for our friends at CVT (Cascadia Vehicle Tents), and will be a cross-promotion tool that will travel around the country to trade shows, etc, with some overland camping in between ;) It is extremely off-road capable, and will easily and happily go anyplace you and your tow vehicle are willing to brave...

    I was blown away to come over the hill from the bath house this past weekend and see one of these set up in one of the lake side sites. This thing looks as nice in person as it does on video and web. Truly made a great weekend even better. Really cool surprise to meet your traveling friends. Fit and finish is impeccable. Nice work ya'll!! Take care

    I need a camp trailer, that can sleep two short adults, and two small kids at a low price, hi from your neighborhood from Springfield Oregon, I brought my daughters and to your shop, you showed us around. But if the price is right. I won't one. Year or two ago was when I was there. The day I came in there I had a price range from your video.

    • @OregonTrailR
      @OregonTrailR  4 года назад +1

      Hey neighbor! If inexpensive is your priority, we may not be the right fit for you, as we tend to price out near the top compared to most of our competition, but our quality is bar none the best, which is why we stay so busy. The least expensive way to get your family of four in an Oregon Trail'R would be a base model dodrop, with a rooftop tent on top. You'd come in under $10k, but it would be lacking in many of the creature comforts that many people want when they bring the family along. Feel free to call us at 541.357.8895 to discuss options if you like...

    OregonTrailR,
    Love the build, but with a price tag of 23k as shown, can you explain why there is a market for such small trailers like this when you can get a 200sq.ft trailer with kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, etc all for the same price...?
    Don't get me wrong, I like the tear drops, but I've never understood how or why people want them when they can get so much more for their dollar for a larger pull-behind? Could you give me your thoughts?

    • @OregonTrailR
      @OregonTrailR  5 лет назад +1

      Well sir, as much as I would very much like to list every reason down, I simply am too busy to take the time. I have an 18 month waiting list for my expensive trailers, and my crew and I need to focus our energy. The easy short answer is simply that you get what you pay for. Our trailers aren't for everyone, but there must be a damn good reason why so many people are willing to wait upwards of two years for one of our stellar campers. If I find some free time later, I'll add to this, but my lunch break is over...

    • @tylerbray8233
      @tylerbray8233 5 лет назад

      @@OregonTrailR No need. I'm in the market for a small pull-behind and have been looking at smaller tear drops, and I like them, as mentioned. I've been in contact with your sales dept for 2 weeks now. I simply wanted your take on why the market is the way it is.
      Honest and pure curiosity...
      But after your completely dick-headed response, my "easy short-answer" is I'm absolutely no longer interested and will take my investment elsewhere. Honestly Sir, that response was rude, insecure, and completely uncalled for and shines a horrible light on your business.

    • @OregonTrailR
      @OregonTrailR  5 лет назад +4

      Tyler, sorry you feel that way. You asked me to defend my price point while referencing an apples to oranges comparison, while clearly implying that my price point is too high. This is something I've done literally thousands of times in the 8 years since I started my business. I've wasted dozens of hours writing thoughtful responses to the same question you asked, only to be ignored and told again that I'm charging an unfair price for my products. Comparing what we build to your average 20+ foot camp trailer is like comparing a $5k+ custom built dining set by your local trusted craftsperson with decades of experience and happy customers, to a $150 dining set from walmart that is made from particle board on a Chinese assembly line. There's no comparison, so it's pointless to bring up. Please go buy the 200 square foot trailer with all the "amenities" and let me know how you like it in 5 years, how much use you get out of it, and whether it's held up like you expected it to given what you paid for it. I've sold plenty of trailers to people that have been down that road, burned by the unbelievably poor quality control and the particle board that swells and rots under high-humidity alone, the constant leaking roofs and joints everywhere that those trailers are famous for. Your 200 square foot trailer you want to compare to my teardrop, is thrown together in less time than I take to build a single galley lid, and it's not because I'm wasting time, it's because I'm methodical and understand that quality takes time and attention. FYI, I'm not trying to win back your business, we have earned the ability to choose which clients we work with, and people who demand explanations based on silly comparisons never make the cut. I bear no ill-will to you, my intention was never to be rude or insecure (lol, btw), I'm literally working 60+ hours a week building trailers, and since I reserve my free time for my family, my only time for responding to questions like yours are when I'm shoveling my sandwich in my mouth during my 15 minute lunch. Which is over again, so I have to get back at it. Good luck with your search for the perfect trailer, I suggest you are diligent in your research into the the materials, craftsmanship, and quality control of whichever company you choose to invest in. Here's an important life tip- more things/square footage doesn't always equate to a better value or experience, ESPECIALLY in the RV industry...

    • @OregonTrailR
      @OregonTrailR  7 лет назад +12

      Charlie. Obviously we know that our campers are not for every person and every budget. We are a small company with limited production anyway, so we're not trying to sell to "everybody". We're having no trouble making sales and keeping super busy, so the market segment is there. We could certainly do things cheaper with lesser quality materials, less labor intensive methods, etc...but we're not interested in building a cheap/lower-quality unit. We build to the top of our abilities, and use the best materials available...and that's not an in-expensive way to operate. It's what we love to do, and we get overwhelmingly positive feedback, so I think we're on the right track.

    Besides the Sealander amphibious camper trailer.... these guys make the coolest trailers... I prefer how rugged theirs are compared to the Sealander, which has only gone up in price :( and seems to be more suited to more luxury glamping than more rugged and removed backcountry retreats .... do think the sealanders amphibious capability is awesome tho ✌️

    • @OregonTrailR
      @OregonTrailR  6 лет назад +1

      Thanks for the kind words! The Sealander is an awesome idea and design, looks pretty well-executed as a finished product as well. My only concern with it is that since it is both a boat and a camper, it probably performs so-so as a boat, and so-so as a camper. Kind of like a Dual-Sport motorcycle, it's nice that you can do take it on or off road, but it can't compare on the road with a true road-bike, and it can't compare off-road with a true dirt-bike. For the right type of person, the Sealander is probably the perfect set-up. A shipwright friend of mine who built yachts for all the Microsoft top dogs in the 90's said that given the shape and design of the Sealander it would only be usable in very still water, and that a wake from a passing ski-boat could potentially tip it over... Doesn't stop me from wanting one though!

      OregonTrailR a very belated thank you for the reply!!!! We just went to our first year of Descend On Bend! Sorry we missed you! We were day tripping into Bend to visit a friend of mine so we didn’t spend as much time as we’d have like to at the festie.... I’ve actually emailed or inquired officially with you guys through your website... you guys are at the top of my list - me + my BF are very seriously considering what choice to make for an alternative travel/living situation... the main challenge is finding a place or space to rent later for him to be based- I am caretaking for and living with my Grandma these days... but it’s just too expensive to even live here in the Bay Area anymore- so while we are young and wanting to do more travel & road trips... we still think even with legality challenges- that this is one of our very best options to be able to stay safe and covered and to be able to live/ travel, & actually get to save some money here for future. He is recently back from overseas and transitioning to life back in the Bay Area. We’re looking into housesitting as an option for when his current seasonal live/work situation time is up... we still need to save up for this but.... it is my dream & goal and hope that we will be able to achieve this stepping stone within one year- maybe even six months. I have the capacity to generate a few thousand a month, together we hope to save $5-10K in the next 3-6 months, but I’d really like to aim higher for like $15K+ so that our options expand and we could get whichever trailer configuration is really our favorite / ideal. We definitely need a model with the kitchen... that’s pretty key. The Do Drop base model I’ve seen is the most affordable but I guess we need to step it up bc that one doesn’t come with the galley/kitchen. :/ but I’m a little confused about the cost of different configurations bc I just saw a newish video posted ~4mos ago where you said the terra drop base model starts at $5,500 - if so I’m SOLD! But I anticipate that there’s some miscommunication bc the website indicates otherwise that it actually starts around $16K. So that’s $8K per person btwn the two of us.... I think we can still do it- it’ll just take a little more time. But anyway! I look forward to being in better communication with you guys- I know I’m sure it’s been hard for you guys to keep up with the interest& demand - but I am happy that you guys are doing so well! ☺️✌️

    How do you do the sharp bend on the back door system? That looks rather tricky...or do you tell? Would love to know, as I do prefer that method of not going to the bottom of the trailer with that back door section and it also makes more room for storage...

    • @OregonTrailR
      @OregonTrailR  7 лет назад +1

      Hi Vicki, we use a combination of a very strong jig, vacuum pressure, and mechanical pressure to achieve that curve. The hatch itself is also specifically engineered to withstand the massive forces trying to pull it back out of shape. It's certainly easier to go with a softer curve...it'll save you a lot of effort.

    Is it possible to install a small fridge in the bottom galley storage compartment? The storage space dropping down into the bench?

    • @OregonTrailR
      @OregonTrailR  5 лет назад

      It's just too small a space for a fridge, unfortunately. We have options for mounting a fridge, but none of them are inside the galley. To maintain our approach and departure angles (and maintain proper weight distribution), we are unwilling to stretch the body of the trailer enough to mount a fridge inside, it would make the trailer significantly less off-road capable. We have put fridges on racks in the front and back of trailers before, but the best possible spot if you can fit it, is inside your tow vehicle. This way if you drop the trailer at basecamp, and head out for a daytrip, you have all your food and beverages with you all the time. It might not seem to make sense initially, but in practice, it really is the best way. This is how I do it, and it works awesome.

      Great looking trailers, Guys. i have watched all of the build videos, The roof seems to be very well insulated but i didn't see any insulation on the walls or floor, is it needed i wonder? Also i see some of the trailers have a roof top tent, can all the trailers take a roof top tent or is it just the off road versions?@@OregonTrailR

    • @OregonTrailR
      @OregonTrailR  5 лет назад +2

      @@barryomahony7061, Thanks! Yes we avoid insulating the walls for a handful of reasons. First, we don't believe it's necessary, as this is a very small space and your body heat alone can keep it at comfortable temperature (along with reasonable bedding for the cold season). Our maximum width we can build our body is 60" overall, and we want to have as much room as possible on the inside, where every inch counts. If we used thick enough insulation to make a noticeable difference, we'd lose a ton of bed width and storage capacity. Using the marine grade 18mm Baltic Birch sidewalls and floor creates a VERY rigid and waterproof structure and has a respectable R-value (about 75% of polystyrene insulation in the same thickness). The other benefit of using a solid Baltic Birch panel, is that we get incredible shear strength from it for mounting our roof rack towers and load bars, which make it possible to mount a roof top tent to any of our trailers with the addition of our roof rack option. Thanks for watching, and thanks for the query!

    Where does the cooler go?

    • @OregonTrailR
      @OregonTrailR  8 лет назад +1

      We don't actually make room for the cooler inside the galley. We have experimented with putting the cooler on top of the counter with small cabinet pods on the sides, but it is too high and too far back to use effectively, so you must take it out and put it elsewhere, leaving a large hole that could have been very useful storage. And we've experimented with putting it under the counter, but it cuts the bed shorter by enough that neither of us (and a good portion of the population) wouldn't be able to stretch out comfortably, and that also requires a full-length galley hatch, which cuts down on body rigidity a ton and provides much less insurance against sideways racking forces. And lastly, our teardrops are going to outlive any cooler available on the market, so if we designed in the perfect spot for any specific cooler, there would be no guarantee one could find a cooler to fit that spot correctly in the future. So all that said, we ask our clients to carry their cooler in their vehicles, on their tongue rack (if so equipped), a rear accessory hitch rack (if so equipped), or inside the cabin of the trailer strapped down with our cargo management system (if so equipped). I hope this answers your question sufficiently, thanks for checking us out!

      Mike, We can and often do install exterior power connectivity to power a portable fridge unit. So during transit the tow vehicle powers the fridge, then when you're at camp, you move the portable fridge to the back and the trailer powers it from there. Works great :)

    I'm considering a DDA after watching a video that Mixflip did on it and you saying they start at 5500. I submitted several requests for a quote and realized a day or so ago that a message popped up saying if people wanted a response, to call and ask for one. 🤔
    Also, I don't see anywhere on your website these going for 5500. The least expensive one is actually double that at 10,500??? Maybe I'm missing something.
    Check your email for the same username as here and give me a heads up. Much appreciated ✌

    • @OregonTrailR
      @OregonTrailR  4 года назад

      Ok, a bit of a complicated answer, but here goes. In the mixflip video, you were looking at our prototype DDA, which at the time we considered just the top end of the DoDrop package, which indeed did start at $5500, with a street-worthy chassis/suspension/wheels/tires, and raw aluminum clad. Since then, we decided that the "alpha" is so much different than the dodrop in every way, it will be it's own thing. That DDA in the mixflip video was quoted in the video at roughly $15k I believe, and that would still hold today for the same build. So, even then, if you wanted a DoDrop, which started at $5500, and you added all the necessary bits to make it an "alpha" (PolyUrea bedliner coating, offroad chassis/suspension/wheels/tires, roofrack, etc, you'd be back up to the $10k starting price of our DDA line. For reference, just the coating we put on the DDA costs us nearly half the base price of the standard DoDrop. And FYI, DoDrop's base price has increased a few hundred dollars because we have made powdercoating the aluminum skin standard now. We are highly skilled craftsmen, who purchase the highest quality materials to work with, and while we waste no time, we also spend the extra time at every step to ensure it is done correctly. This pays dividends on the back end since we very rarely have to do any kind of warranty work, but it costs time and money up front. Our trailers are expensive, but they are the best, and our year+ long waiting list (for ten years running almost) is a testament to that. With regards to our quotes, we have one guy (of three total) who works on quotes, and he has a backlog many thousands of requests long, hence the request to let us know you've submitted. This allows us to focus on the people who are actually serious about our products, and spend the rest of our time building the best teardrops on the market. Anyway, I'll let my brother know you are waiting on your quote, and he'll get back to you at some point today! If you have any other questions at all, feel free to call and chat with him, 541-357-8895. Thank you!

      I assure you I'm not questioning your workmanship. I've watched a lot of your videos. Only thing I AM questioning is what I mentioned I saw in the the video I'm referring to. Yes, I know the one in the video wasn't for the 5500 because you also said that in the video. I just want clarification so I can make an informed decision is all. The DDA caught my eye due to the bedliner coating as I live in snow country and want something completely sealed not only due to snow but due to mag chloride and pretty damn sure wood won't fare well with that.🤣🤣🤣

      Yeah we’ve seen that, stolen pictures from our website, fake manufacturers selling fake products to steal money. We’ve also seen our trailers for sale on Facebook FOR UNDER $100, lol. We actually had someone call us and say they knew it was a scam but wanted to see what arrived, and it was a kitchen utensil in a box labeled “camper.” 🤣🤣🤣

      @@OregonTrailR what a punks man and I even text some of those scoundrels about some other campers but they didn't even want to answer, they selling camper under 1000 euro I don't understand how those dummies are still not banned

      @@louish4420 Yeah I think they get banned after enough complaints, but then they just make a new name and do it again. I’ve seen pictures of my personal teardrop camper, with my family in the picture, on Alibaba listings. I’ve “reported” them so many times over the years but it goes nowhere. We just hope people can understand the concept of “if it’s too good to be true, it probably is.”
