Love this song, it has a MCIS-era Pumpkins sound, so I don't understand anyone saying it "isn't the Pumpkins". Sounds really, really heavy live too. Just imagine if this had been track #1 on Zeitgeist...
I believe Corgan confirmed somewhere along the way Superchrist was the second half of United States but had to split it to not have a 20 minute song on the album. I have this on CD. It was an exclusive to a compilation record back in the day. I love this song and the entire Zeitgeist album.
layers of Diezel amps will do that (along with some Bogners i believe). C# tuned guitar of some variety into a high gain American style amp, layered a bunch of times. Sounds massive, but clear.
I actually liked it. The Smashing Pumpkins have many strengths. Part of what made them such a phenomenon was their ability to blend genres and styles together.
"Revolution, disillusion, rise One solution, one that takes you beyond This love, am I For I, need time" Listen to this and then watch Cronenberg's Existenz.
The drums are amazing on this. It came on during my car ride earlier this evening down this highway in Argentina at dusk, and I never liked the Zeitgeist period all that much, but this sounded incredible, so I went back, and I honestly think that the album artwork, track sequencing, and timing of Zeitgeist is what made it so reviled by fans at the time
This song gives power chords a new meaning. They really have "Power" here, as does every instrument. It's just such a powerful song. Also, all in all, Billy is one of the artists who is least ashamed of his old material. He plays it all the time and still expands on it.
Yep I hear you, it's painful when a band totally turns around and becomes another band. I'm sorry that you can't enjoy their new stuff. Myself as a drummer & musician was truly fascinated by this jam! :D
Annoys me that I come back to this, but I've yet to find a track that offers such a concentrated wave of sonic distortion without slipping into generic wank. Unmatched.
Let this song be a lesson to all those that were hating on Billy C. He still has the edge, he still writes GREAT stuff. he still rocks. SADly Jimmy can no longer "believe" in what the Pumpkins were doing... because he was the backbone to the band, while Billy was the brains. I will miss the pair of them...
When this song first hit, I honestly didn’t know what to think. The music video is so...... strange, that I think that it ultimately distracted me from the beautiful noisiness of this. Corgan turns many off due to his espousing conspiracy theories at times, but that doesn’t detract from the fact that he’s a musical genius, a true guitar wizard.
This song f-ing ROCKS! Much thanks to Smashing Pumpkins and Sky Saxon et al of The Seeds. Great drum-work & tight riffs here, plus benevolent nurses who give desirable shots & Sasha Gray dancing w/Billy Corgan. Had to look up who she was & what her role in this video means, if anything. Apparently just chilling with Billy as he destroys our collective mind-pussy.
@MaryJaneBlackHeart i completely agree... I fully undedstand the delicate relationships of bandmates/friends/spouses that no longer feel the need/desire/compelling to be attached to the other people/persons/...,. so i have no ill feelings for Billy or Jimmy or Darcy or James... I am just thankful that this happened before the end... This is brilliant... one of the best!
Great video- make some more Billy! Reminds me of a club I stumbled across behind a curtain doorway in the depths of Berlin. I do like to consider this tune as Jimmy's swansong.....what a f**king way to go out. It's restrained, savage, tribal drumming at its best.
Listening to the Pumpkins reminds me of the scene in Ratatouli (yes, the cartoon) where the food critic bites into the food and is immediately taken back to his childhood: Listening to the Pumpkins has this effect on me. Still a great band....and ooooh! Women in nurse outfits!
@LordPrick Yes comrade it is I Grigori Yefimovich Rasputin, I play a mean base guitar for a man who was born in 1869 and died in 1916. Sky Saxon is the guy who is on the base guitar.
I wouldn't have said this when it came out in 2008, but as of now, I think Superchrist is somewhere in my top 10 favorite smashing pumpkins songs.
It might actually be my favorite, topping Rhinocerous. Its Pumpkins at their rawest firing on all cylinders
One of my all-time fave SP tracks, if not my favorite as its kind of, like, transcendent or something.
Still love this track so freaking much! Jimmy Chamberlain is such a beast on drums! Everything about this song blows me away!
Love this song, it has a MCIS-era Pumpkins sound, so I don't understand anyone saying it "isn't the Pumpkins". Sounds really, really heavy live too. Just imagine if this had been track #1 on Zeitgeist...
Never heard this before today. This Rocks my socks off. I love this stuff.... Pumpkins need Chamberlin....
The always clean Rolls from the Master Chamberlin.
This song is the brother song to United States. Both are AMAZING!
I believe Corgan confirmed somewhere along the way Superchrist was the second half of United States but had to split it to not have a 20 minute song on the album. I have this on CD. It was an exclusive to a compilation record back in the day. I love this song and the entire Zeitgeist album.

💪🏿
Hahahaha Sasha Grey
I thought this was just a dream until I went down the SP rabbit hole
The pumpkins had a really cool guitar sound from the zeitgeist era
Zeitgeist is cool but it was not well received by the fans, one of the reasons that on the album you can find songs with the style of zwan
layers of Diezel amps will do that (along with some Bogners i believe). C# tuned guitar of some variety into a high gain American style amp, layered a bunch of times. Sounds massive, but clear.
@@andresav1073there’s nothing on Zeitgeist that sounds like Zwan. Zeitgeist is way more heavy hitting which is why people didn’t like it initially
I actually liked it. The Smashing Pumpkins have many strengths. Part of what made them such a phenomenon was their ability to blend genres and styles together.
totally man... Jimmy and Billy were a great team... its a shame they arent making music together anymore. long live the music!!!
@@melfrank6959 I came here to make a similar comment!
@Jay Sharp they weren’t speaking at the time. 11 years ago. Lol.
@Jay Sharp yeah apparently they haven’t heard😂
@Jay Sharp I think D’arcy and Iha are the only ones missing today. Definitely D’arcy tho.
They're back to making music together, but you'd never know it's Jimmy by listening to it. He's basically just a glorified drum machine these days.
"Revolution, disillusion, rise
One solution, one that takes you beyond
This love, am I
For I, need time"
Listen to this and then watch Cronenberg's Existenz.
Chamberlin absolutely KILLS on this song... i mean its brilliant....
Absolute machine.. Great
*6:48** My Goddess Sasha Grey* 🔥😍🖤
ok this song is psychedelic good...like insane crazy good
Jimmy is one of my main influences as far as drums go... great stuff
The drums are amazing on this. It came on during my car ride earlier this evening down this highway in Argentina at dusk, and I never liked the Zeitgeist period all that much, but this sounded incredible, so I went back, and I honestly think that the album artwork, track sequencing, and timing of Zeitgeist is what made it so reviled by fans at the time
This song has the most amazing drums
Absolute masterpiece ! The quintessential Pumpkins song ! An odyssey as powerful as it is subtle.
This song gives power chords a new meaning. They really have "Power" here, as does every instrument. It's just such a powerful song. Also, all in all, Billy is one of the artists who is least ashamed of his old material. He plays it all the time and still expands on it.
No powerchords we’re used in the making of this song
@@walshelliot1 I'll have to check the song out again. I may have been wrong. I've learned a lot in 13 years ;)
@@rohiogerv22 it’s typical pumpkins. Slamming the E string and octaves
This song blew me away when they played it back in 2008. Didn't think it could be even heavier live.
so sick!!!!!! corgan what a brilliant mind!!!
one of the coolest videos of all time
This is like my third time hearing it, not tired of it at all, awesome indeed, good improvisation Billy
Religious idiots: Rock is satanic and should be burned at the stake.
God: *Enters the chat. How about you stfu now😎
This is probably the Smashing Pumpkins best New song
The drumming is very well done. Feels Bonzo inspired
Definately loving Sasha Grey.. Bad Ass fuckin song.. ive always been a pumpkins fan
Exactly. It was the first Smashing Pumpkins song I heard, and it's still my favorite.
this is the only way you can rock today with a video, another underated song by sp
OMG. The best ever. Jimmy and billy at their best. Geddy Lee looking on with approval like Gandalf the grey.
Yep I hear you, it's painful when a band totally turns around and becomes another band. I'm sorry that you can't enjoy their new stuff. Myself as a drummer & musician was truly fascinated by this jam! :D
So good!
D'arcy really let herself go! lol

Just saw this live at Darien Lake and it did not fucking disappoint.
Proper rock n roll....
Its a very David Lynch "Inland Empire" type of video....
Audrey is so hot.
I love Billy forever glad to still hear him.
This is a great song as well as a great video, and if you watched it, you already knew that.
I love this song, pure Pumpkins! Sucks that I can't find this song for download on Apple Music
Not a record deck, a sampler, an X Factor contestant or a rapper in sight. Hardcore.
Billy uses samplers today
Try Momma, 99 Floors, Owata, The Rose March, Sunkissed, Again Again, Again. Peace And Love, Promise Me, As Rome Burns, and The Fellowship.

Olha o Sky Saxon lá atrás com sua inseparável pandeirola. Valeu Brother!

Muchas gracias Adriel
Yes
awesome!!!
It's too bad there's no HQ version of this anywhere... :( Such a good song.
Sky Saxon RIP!
Awesome. SP really are something untoucheable, that should make all the emo trash around ashamed of existing. This is music.
this song isn't on itunes anymore so i was to late to download it
bow e's in space. bow e's in spay hay ace. what ya doin out there man. that's pretty freaky bowie.
sounds like something from gish-siamese dream era... nice.
Nobody could play this better than Jimmy. Heck, nobody could replace Jimmy in the band.
wow to all the haters out there... THIS FUCKIN' SONG IS EPIC !!!!!
Agreed!
i did not know that Smashing Pumpkins can do stoner doom and it is good.
