Exactly. I don't understand why he got so offended. It's like telling a man you don't know what it's like to give birth or have a period because you're not a woman. He can't deny that black people and white people have two different sets of experiences living in the US. The fact that this offends him is a big red flag. As a black woman I can tuck away many things. But my black experience is something I would never minimize for anyone's comfort.

I absolutely hate when people say I don't care if you're black white red green etc. Let's be real there isn't anyone green blue purple or anything like that so to put some colors in there to me says something and so many people say it. It actually sounds ignorant. That's why I'm glad Michael made the song black or white cuz there aren't really any other "colors." I know people say yellow cuz some people have yellow undertones but no one is the actual color yellow. I absolutely love that these things are being discussed on a bigger platform. Communication issues between different cultural backgrounds is more and more important in this day and age. And mental health is such a big epidemic, that we need to be able to address it openly. Hopefully shows like that will open conversations in the homes of the viewers.

Blessed Daughter Michelle is insecure at the moment, which causes her depression. Being in a big singing group with Beyonce, and the world only see Beyonce, she doesn't feel worthy to be noticed, loved, and recognized. It happened to Kelly. Michelle is being goofy to: 1) see how far she can push this man to prove his love, if he stays, she feels worthy, if he goes, she'll be calling him a liar or 2) She's never been loved. Now that she is, she's being her worst self to gain the attention that she lacked in her group. So in this group(union)she's acting like what she believes a married diva(aka Bey) acted towards them in their singing group, towards him. Clearly she needs therapy, but I believe she can stop certain things and just make an album.
He won't understand black people, no matter how many books he read, but she shouldn't keep saying it to him though in a negative way. He can't keep telling her to take her meds either. Beyonce is on tour, Michelle isn't out there, and that's probably hard to cope with daily, especially if you probably still want to be in the group. While praying about it you need to seek help from marriage counsellor. Its important too. When a woman is in labour they don't go to church they have to go to the hospital cause doctors where placed there to help.
The Bible says for this sick, seek a physician. Michelle is emotionally sick, and as a couple he (the pastor) is seeking a licensed professional therapist or counselor, as a medical remedy. Now do you get it??

They only been together for over a yr. They seem very comfortable together they just working out the kinks
I saw them on the breakfast club and I know things change and develop, especially with counselling, but I think they're not going to make it 😢. They've made a lot of school boy errors. For example moving in (by default) together. Also, he needs very strong self-control and long suffering characteristics to be in such a new relationship with someone who suffers from depression, in the way her's manifests. Also because Michelle was in a very famous group, doesn't mean she's altogether knowledgeable, wise or understanding. That comes by the grace of God and her comments demonstrate little of all the above. But i want them to succeeded we all deserve happiness in the form of a good stable relationship.

I was in an interracial marriage and we NEVER brought up color, etc. He had certain viewpoints based on how he was raised and so did I. We had more in common because of our conservative political views and our religious views. With that said, MAGNIFYING our differences can drive a wedge between us. Michelle please look for the commonality. Search your heart and make sure the race factor is not an issue.

It's interesting to think that if someone says you would not understand because you are not a certain race that would be "offensive." The question we ought to ask is why is that offensive to say you don't understand because culturally you may not be predisposed to this particular thing, which would have likely informed your perspective on this conversation, thereby, allowing you to understand what I am saying quicker, or to understand period. When he says race shouldn't come into it, it seems to tell me that he wants her to separate herself from her blackness as if that's not something she has to exist in on a daily basis. I have also seen some people justify him saying, did "you take your meds?" The offense of you don't understand something because of your race does not equate to the offense of asking a person who is clinically depressed if they have taken their meds. I see so many logical leaps and bounds over the obvious fact of their situation that there is a racial incompatibility that they must work out before the they get married. Otherwise, each party might find it difficult to cope with the other in the long term.

The sad part of this type of relationship is when two people come from brokenness and one has made strides to work on their issues and the other hasn't it can be very dysfunctional. Mostly because of triggers that could set the one who has made some progress back. I know one thing for sure and it is that God is able to heal damaged emotions and mend broken hearts. However, if the person is not surrendered in humility, they may not get healed. In my experience, when one comes from stability and the other doesn't, they stand a much better chance than when both come from brokenness. All the people "I know" personally whose marriages have lasted the one who came from stability plays the role of anchor perfectly. A good blueprint for successful marriage would be, if you came from a broken or dysfunctional environment, find and marry some one from a stable environment. If you came from stability, marry someone from stability.
I will be the FIRST one to say I'm no relationship expert. I'm very grateful these two young people decided to share their journey with us....very brave indeed. I really hope they make it too. I know Michelle has been diagnosed with clinical depression and that can be a challenge all by itself and I also sense from the VERY LITTLE that we get to witness on this show that homegirl still has some growing within herself to do....as we all do. I really sense that Michelle is a victim of potential self-sabatoge and that in little indiscriminate ways....she is trying to find reasons NOT to let this man love on her and assist her with her healing. There just seems to be a component of maturity that's missing for her.....and she is so going to need it...if she's going to be a wife....particularly a pastor's wife. Nevertheless I wish them well no matter what.

Listen, if you want to build a life with a Black person as a white person then you have to understand white culture and Black culture are very different. I know white people don’t think they have a culture but they do and that culture (especially in America) is often parallel to Black culture. Black culture is direct and white culture is very passive, so Michelle does have a point. Being with one of us means you have learn to be okay with those cultural differences. I’m not saying, Michelle has a pass to behave badly but if he can’t handle a direct or blunt delivery of criticism...........he might want to stop dating Black women.

I believe this marriage (engagement) is doomed for a myriad of reasons; least of all, the fact that they are not even married yet and need counseling. Their lives are not even intertwined and meshed together. What could be so distressing? And (assuming there are serious difficulties) is this a relationship worth saving? From the outside looking in, I'd say no! It should not take this much work or be this frustrating. Get out now, before the real challenges come! Just my two cents...

Michelle went there. On a more serious note, this convo is helpful for a lot of us to learn how to bridge the gap on race in inter racial relationships - romantic or platonic. Chad went for the jugular when he asked about her meds. It shows me that Chad isn't as "developed" as previous clips suggested. It's good because it shows the couple has individual room for growth in this relationship and that they (from the outside) seemed to be equally yoked. Keep growing you two -- a lot of us are supporting you all!

I feel for him. I had to walk away from a relationship a year ago. It's really hard being with someone who has not healed from past hurts. They make you pay for loving them. I hope she heals or lets him move on.

This is so sad. Why are they even in couple's therapy at this stage? Why is she making excuses for his vile (and telling) anger at the mere mention of race? He also compared his race to her mental health disorder. There is something really deep about that.

Didn't she say she feels like she not good enough for him because he's such a great person and she isn't sure she might be deserving of him? Personally he looks at her like a man in love so he needs to give her some space let her do her therapy by herself and fly in to do joint with her in between. It's clear she is fighting her own demons and she needs to heal and love herself before he can love her the way she deserves. No man is gonna stay if you self hating and he's getting caught up in that mess nope. They need each other but she needs to set her spirit right with God and herself first is what I think. If you can’t get over the things you’ve experienced in the past, then you clearly can’t move forward..... and you have to grow and progress in a relationship. Maybe Chad needs to take a step back until Michele can really heal, if ever.
Cultural differences are a thing, and social customs are inherently rooted in cultural customs. However, if you choose to date outside of your culture and are dealing with a person who is unaccustomed to certain things, then it's your responsibility to explain in addition to finding new methods of effectively communicating.
