  • We have a 1978? Kawasaki KD175 and we are going to get this motorcycle back up and going.
In this video we will be replacing the fork seals and talking about how the forks work. I am not sure if these are Showa and Kayaba forks or maybe a different brand but they all work similar from this era of play bikes.
These forks include progressive fork springs and a dampening rod. We will refill with Honda SS8 fork oil. The forks on this motorcycle are similar two many vintage forks and forks used in AHRMA racing.
Follow along as we remove the forks disassemble or take them apart and clean them. We will replace the fork seals with a set of Bikemaster fork seals and get them back on the bike.

Very helpful - I'm rebuilding 1975 KT250 forks, not identical, but close enough to help a bunch. Thanks

Have you ever seen this style fork stuck in full compression? Any idea why that might happen? Maybe oil too low and bottomed out?....Maybe the forks were serviced at some point and the bottoming out cone sleeve not re-installed? There is no external visual damage. The only thing that I did to try to get them to move out was have 2 people (360lbs) stand on the wheel and lifted the front of the bike up. Nothing moved. It's on a '76 175ke. I need to get it working properly. Thing rides like a lumber wagon😆 I basically never ride it, because I have a road legal XR400R that fills the 175's place, but I'd like to get it in proper riding condition. Thanks for the video.

The manual says 5.1 ounces or 150 cc. On the fork seal oil for that bike. How did you clean up the shaft??

I used Scotch Brite in the parts washer. Started with a course pad and finished with a finer one. Thank you for watching.

Hey I was hoping I might get some help. Currently my outer and inner forks won’t come apart. I have loosened the fork cylinder bolt all the way but the inner fork still won’t drop. The fork cylinder just spins with the Allen bolt when I loosen.

They make a special tool that goes down from the top inside the inner fork tube to hold it from turning. Sometimes it is necessary and sometime you can use a long extension to reach down inside. Thank you for watching.
