DJs interested in expanding their technique might want to observe how he's playing here. I *think* the following is accurate:
- Running four channels into a Model 1 mixer.
- Traktor as DJ software, set up in its 4-deck configuration, 3 racks going into each of 3 channels in the Model 1 (4th deck never appears used). Uses a single D2 controller to drive Traktor, switching deck focus among the 3 active decks as required. More often than not, he has all 3 decks running - generally 2 in a loop, and one running as a song.
- Running Ableton Live with a Push controller, presumably into the 4th channel on the Model 1. Presumably Traktor & Live are BPM master-synced via Ableton Live.
- I can't see what audio interface (A/D) is being used; presumably external, and off-to-the-side, and shared by both Traktor & Live.
It looks like Traktor is doing the major portion of the work of beat- and track-mixing, since the Live window on his Mac is mostly pulled off to the side (and the Push will display most of the relevant info on the controller display). From watching his actions, I think he uses the Push during breakdowns.
Not the kind of thing you walk up with just before the prior DJ hands the decks off to you; this requires pre-event setup. ;-)
