Never seen this video before but Dougal summed up the absolute flaw in happy hardcore that killed it. Everyone just copied everyone else until it stagnated, then someone would do something different and everyone would copy that.
It was only ever going to annoy the people that loved the old sound. It also destroyed any creativity with the old sound by labelling it as stagnant.
Also the speed at which remixes came out was shocking. A year after a tune was out there would be a new remix of it with the latest hardcore trend. A lack of originality. No wonder numbers dropped.
It’s a shame it ended that way. The DJs and producers really lead the way in the demise.
The mid 90s were the peak for me. Before everyone got obsessed with trying to be the same as everyone else.

The current Japanese hardcore scene is full of original ideas and talent right now! I suggest any old school hardcore fan give it a try. Look up yukiyanagi or assertive

This is hardcore over and over. Its changed so many times since 91. It focuses on a rush, the same vibe wont give you the same rush forever hence why stuff gets stagnant and needs to evolve. Unfortunately every time it does it loses something for the older generation, ie rawness, charm.
I miss this resurrection in 2002, felt good that we had credible music come back and be part of a thriving scene. I lost interest about 2007

Dougal's an absolute legend even if his DJ mixing isn't the best.
But yeah, happy hardcore has basically been copying the popular sound since the beginning. All they do is crank up the tempo.
Early piano tunes were copying piano house and some breakbeat. Then it copied gabber, while retaining some old traits. Then it copied Hands-Up in the 2000s and, tbh, found a lot of success in it. In the 2010s, it experimented with a lot of trendy EDM genres like dubstep, prog house, and so on... Then by later 2010s to 2020, it settled on the "reverse bass euphoric Hardstyle at 170 BPM" sound.

Hearing Storm talk about new talent coming through in the scene? When did that happen? Gammer & Klubfiller are the only 2 I can think of
