  • Over the past several years I've begun curating a list of things that should be changed, added, or altered within the popular videogame Minecraft. This list is now over 100 items long. I am happy to now share this list with you with a new weekly series: The List! This list is made from the perspective of someone who has played Java Edition Minecraft now for 13 years, the last 10 of which I have spent playing Minecraft as been my full-time job. I also have expert knowledge of many Minecraft systems and playstyles from Redstone to Speedrunning and have had several of my ideas over the years implemented into the game itself. I hope this video will promote healthy discussion within the Minecraft community about balance, intent, and feature depth within Minecraft. With any luck we might see some of these ideas implemented into Minecraft soon.

5:54 wouldn't be surprised if Mojang actually removes TNT duping if they ever add movable tile entities to Java, so that you can move dispensers with TNT in them. Also if they were to do that they should probably make sand farmable so that it's a bit easier to get a lot of it
6:49 I feel like probably the only reason Mojang hasn't done this is because they don't want to break old builds, which lowering the build limit would definitely do for anything built in the roof (probably the best way to handle this is just making the Nether build limit a game rule so that old worlds aren't broken by this, while making new worlds have a lower build limit by default but giving the option for server owners to allow it)

    • @DiamondMC
      @DiamondMC 4 часа назад +4

(talking about the Nether Roof point) well, when Mojang change how redstone works, old redstone contraptions get broken,
and if it’s the case, why don’t they just allow Bedrock to build on the Nether roof, it really makes no sense by Mojang, leaving such big Parity issues (like the Bedrock Wither) untouched for ages

    • @Voxnn
      @Voxnn 3 часа назад +1

i think in bedrock you already cant build above the nether so if theyd just implement that in java too that would solve the problem mostly, no?

  • @DiamondMC

Can’t wait to hear the rest of your ideas Cub,
and yes, dispute the years, parity is still a massive issue between Bedrock and Java, hopefully Mojang add all Java features to Bedrock (and vice versa) soon

Two thoughts I had while watching:
    - Tnt duping definitely should have a better alternative, but until we get a way to farm sand that isn't either destroying a desert or gravity block duping, I don't see a need to remove that bug first. The other factors of tnt crafting, sand collection, etc make players drawn to duping tnt because it feels like there's no alternative. (Husks should drop sand so we can farm it)
    - I agree that building above the nether roof really defeats the purpose of a TON of things in the nether, but just removing the ability to build up there I don't think would be a good idea. You'd be losing out on HALF of the build height in the nether... Alternatively, if the nether roof ITSELF was moved to the build height, this would both restrict players from abusing it, give more area in the nether to build, and make sure that it's not skippable.
Other than that, great vid and ideas cub, the trident one NEEDS to be a thing, shoving them in a trial chamber makes literally no sense at all, gg :D

    • @DaftyBoi412
      @DaftyBoi412 3 часа назад +1

100% agree, they need something like moveable dispencers (also a parity issue if I'm not mistaken as they already have moveable tile entities in bedrock), and farmable sand, then I bet a big % of the people who dupe TNT and/or sand wouldn't even bother, which would make it WAY less of an issue for the wider comunity if it was removed.

  • @tepig2828
    @tepig2828 4 часа назад +19

On your Nether Roof idea, why not extend the Nether vertically to build height and make the roof the actual roof of bedrock at build height.
Players would still be able to travel between holes in the roof, but could not build there, making it equivalent to the void in the Overworld.
You could also then change the calculations for cross-dimensional portal height, leading to less overlapping portal problems like we see with the Post System in Hermitcraft.

The glow berry idea is the best suggestion I ever heard!! My only problem with sugar cubes is that they are not healthy for horses or any animals really. They can be given occasionally but can cause dental problems, diabetes, obesity which are all much harder to control in animals. Of course, this is just a game but we all know what happened with feeding fireflies to frogs or cookies to parrots. And no I am not upset about Mojang cancelling that. I was happy they changed the feeding requirement for frogs though they could have still done the birch forest update. Just used a different food source.

Love the suggestions! Especially the Elder Guardian and Glowberry ones.
    - I'd like to see moveable tile entities and a way to farm sand before TNT duping is removed.
    - As for the nether roof issue, I'd just remove the bedrock layer. maybe replace it with a layer of lava. If people want to swim through lava to make their farms, that's fine; at least then it's intended and it makes it harder. This would let us create actual nether perimeters easier because we don't need to break bedrock to do it. And if you want to build a hub up there, you'd have to create the ground first, maybe with basalt generators.

Add actual clear weather & cloudy weather - It would be so easy to implement yet it would make the world feel so much better.

Glowing Effect for Berries and BE
    MAYBE:
Elder Shards - I actually like the fact that tridents are not craftable and rare. But this is a good trident recipe.
Sugar Cube - Not something I would use but cool idea regardless.
    NOOO:
Remove TNT, Carpet & Rail Duping: I love perimeters and it would be immensely hard to create one without tnt flying machines. It's a shame there isn't a way to patch this that doesn't harm perimeters
Do not allow players to build on Nether roof: I need my net of Nether portal roads all neat and quiet up there. I don't care how cool and deadly Nether has become after the update. No tunnel building for me

honestly i think the biggest reason i could see for not removing the nether roof stuff is just how kind of horrible the nether is to build in - nether infastructure would become a zillion times more resource intensive; which could maybe be seen as more "balanced' but isnt like; fun; yknow?
and im saying this with experience building junk in the nether - i like the nether and having a nether base is cool but with no real way to stop mobs spawning that doesnt both ruin the look and takes tons of resources; its really annoying honestly. its *fine* for a base but for tunnels having junk spawn in them cause you didnt make 200 million buttons and painstakingly place them is horrible
i think if nether roof was to be disabled theyd *need* some sort of way to shut down mob spawning - maybe it shouldnt be as easy as placing torches but it shouldnt take forever placing buttons ruining the look of your build or using only slabs on the ground meaning no fancier block types - maybe some sort of beacon/conduit like structure that gives a aura of no mob spawning
also itd be kinda sad to lose the nether roof because it can be cool to have builds connecting the roof and base nether but i guess thatd be a sacrifice thatd be fine to lose out on stupid easy op farms... so; gunpowder and iron farms; huh?

I couldn't agree more with the bedrock roof & duping. Also villager trading is ridiculous too, I think villagers should have to be able to get the resources for their trades themselves before they can restock, so you can't just cram them into a tiny hall. Also constantly rerolling for a good enchanted book villager is boring, villager trades should be locked and unable to be rerolled to incentivise other methods.

6:50 suggestion to this idea. Increase the world height of the nether so it still has a ceiling but it's at 300 blocks same as the overworld. That way players can still make their overpowered farms, but first must clear the area to do so.
And it's a parity issue, while bedrock can access the roof, building is impossible there.

read the scrolling list before the video actually started, dude spoilers,
Resting at day is good for phantoms but could have players expect it will skip night, maybe simply right clicking the bed has the same effect.
Elder guardian drop feels a bit late, now its in trial chambers adding it to ocean monuments would only cause people to compare the structures and decide one is better for obtaining the trident simply for being easier.
I like the glowberry effect and would say maybe torchflower suspicious stew could get the same treatment, its a shame it shares an effect with poppies.
Imo they should absolutely add a gamerule that makes the nethers max build height 128, and make this the default in new worlds as well as reduced debug, obviously still let people change them as they wish but i dont like that they havent decided whether stuff like this is considered Regular survival or not

    Here's my top 3:
    1) The Phantom should spawn when you sleep instead of when you don't and also be bigger, do more damage and spawn one at a time. :
Phantoms encourage you to sleep meaning you skip a big part of the game, mob loot, lighting builds at night, etc. We fix this by making phantoms spawn when you sleep. Every third time you sleep, a phatom will spawn. If you're safe inside the phantom can't hurt you but if you sleep outside, the phantom will wake you up. Now the phantom encourages you to build a house, having a bedroom would have a function.
Phantoms are annoying to fight because of their small hitbox and they fly away. They are not a threat because they hit you infrequently you can heal up between their swoops. We fix this by making phantoms larger, do more damage and spawn alone instead of in groups of 4.
    2) Wandering Trader should get better trades over time like a normal villager. Each time the wandering trader appears it would have increasingly rare non renewable items and importantly, would keep all the trades from the last time they visited. Now when you see a good trade in the wandering trader, you know they will always have that trade available and each time you see them they have more and more options open. Sporeblossom, cobwebs, sponge and deadbushes are non-renewable items the trader should have off the top of my head.
    3) Glazed Terracotta blocks should tessellate with each other. The white glazed terracotta block for example has cyan and light grey patterns on it. These patterns should match the ones on the light grey and cyan glazed terracotta. That way we could make mosaics of multiple colors together. If each glazed terracotta block matched two others you could make some amazing patterns.
What are you most wanted improved features?

I agree that TNT duping is overpowered and offers too much value for very little effort from the player.
However, the ability to use TNT in movable contraptions (world eaters, tunnel bores, other flying machines) is an amazing feature that genuinely improves the game, and it would be a great shame to see that functionality removed without any attempt to replace it.
People have been asking for movable tile entities (the ability to push blocks like chests and dispensers with pistons) in java edition for years in order to address this problem - if Mojang finally gets around to adding them, I can imagine players being much less upset at the prospect of duping bugs being removed.
Other than this point, I really enjoyed this video and am looking forward to future instalments in the series!

Okay, really cool ideas for the glow berries and elder gaurdian shards... I really like the idea that tridents should be craftable.
Disagree about the nether roof though, and here's why: it's the equivalent of purgatory. Many cultures have purgatory as a place your soul goes before transitioning to either heaven or hell, and it's often depicted as a void, much like the nether roof.
However, this doesn't mean your actual issue with he nether roof can't be fixed, and with a lot less complexity: just limit the build height. Make it 12-20 blocks. This will still allow portals, shelters, raio lines, etc. But would exclude most farms, like gold farms.

That would be so helpful... and I agree about the nether roof; though I have used it in my world I have been slowly making a nether hub of tunnels and use the roof very sparingly; makes the Nether no fun skipping it constantly... and for the tnt duping I would be on board for that once they make a way for sand to be renewable(cough cough husk should drop sand)... with a creeper farm and a sand farm I would make tnt all day long if I didn't have to strip a desert of all its sand (given that gravity block duping should be something else removed also)

Looking forward to this series! A change in Bedrock I think you might take interest in is firework behaviour. I tried building a firework-crossbow PvP arena years ago on Bedrock (brought back into my memory by your recent one haha) but the fireworks don't explode on impact. Instead, the projectiles glided along blocks and even phased through entities until the fuse detonated. I'd love to see that changed.

Also, I hope there's a mention of the rare mushroom biome in this series since they haven't been touched in years except shockingly the mooshrooms had something in 1.13. How many new players know about that biome?

while i love the nether roof and how useful it is, i do agree it's a bit broken. the only reason i wouldn't want it gone is that there's no other way to have a blank canvas to build farms in. however i think they could do something with the deep dark portals to open pocket dimensions. it would have a worldborder (starts off small) and there's a core in the middle of it. you place expensive materials around it (like diamond or netherite) and that expands it. then you can also place a certain block underneath it to change the pocket dimension's biome (grass block for plains, jungle log for jungle, netherrack for nether waste). it would just be a 3x3 void platform with the core in the centre and the portal on the edge. it would replace the nether roof and would probably stop a lot of complaining as well

Well, I'm definitely looking forward to the rest of the list!
I think I've only built one farm (a few years ago) that involved TNT duping. It was a novelty then, but I can live without it. I do, usually, make farms and portal hubs on the Nether Roof. But if that were removed, I'd get over it. There's a lot more to this game than bug exploits!

if i remember correctly, tnt douping has been intentionally left in the game because there is no means to farming sand yet. if they made a means to farm sand, then i would fully agree to removing tnt douping.
as a suggestion idea. make it so that if gravel falls (as an entity, not an item) through water, either flowing or source, and only passing through one block is enough, it turns into sand when it lands (including if it lands on a torch or cobwebs and pops into an item before becoming a solid block). gravel is farmable with piglin bartering, so this makes a farmable form of sand, and also it would only rarely happen naturally with things like ocean floor gravel falling. this also doesn't need any added tools in the game, and logically makes sense for gravel to be refined into sand through water erosion.

the nether roof thing is kinda grey area imo. it's kinda high risk for players who don't know what they are doing, so i can see the reward verse stakes as being justifiable. but nether roof manipulation relies on multiple glitches. 1 ender pearl solid block clipping. the very first step of getting onto the roof of the nether is a bug. this actually could be easily fixed if they just add one more layer of solid bedrock on top of the nether roof, making the smallest thickness, 2 blocks instead of 1. 2 bedrock breaking. isn't actually necessary for those who planned ahead and brought a nether portal, but the definition of bedrock is that you are not supposed to be able to break it. this bug also gets abused for getting into the void under the world, which is a no build zone. 3 nether portals on the roof. really everything about nether portals is fubar'd and they still have not created a good solution. personally, i think what would work best is if the nether and overworld had the same Y axis size, that way, nether portals would teleport you exactly 1:1 on the y axis. this would also put the nether roof at the build limit height (the two layers of solid bedrock would be both above the build limit so that portals don't clip into the nether roof when people build portals in the overworld's build limit). the original reason the nether was made as big as it is, was lag issues. but since they expanded the world height of the overworld, mojang have been doing a lot of lag busting and optimizing the game, so it might be finally time to expand the world height of both the nether and end dimensions

I understand why duping and the nether roof must be fixed but I would miss them so much😭. Also I saw one person say lowering the build height on the roof would ruin people's builds. Which is fair. But it's not like Mojang can force update people's world's, they can choose to wait to update or never update

Provide renewable sand & movable block entities and I might be willing to hear you out on TNT duping. Take the rails, that's fine, but I think TNT duping isn't nearly as bad since it's unidirectional - you can't get the item form back after it's placed, and it provides functionality that isn't available otherwise. Otherwise the list sounds great.

I think nether roof access should be turned into a feature with a proper way to get there instead; anyone who wants to experience the Nether still can, but many players dislike the Nether. Bartering absolutely should be nerfed though.
I think the line of argument is also weak. If the nether roof should be removed because you skip the nether, then we also outta remove the 8x factor for nether portals because they let you skip the overworld.
The beauty of MC is that it supports dozens of different play styles and you can choose which way you play and, as a server owner, which styles you want to support.

The glow berry idea is amazing! As a bedrock player we need that glow effect! It would be awesome. The only thing is, with the new update and the new mob that’s basically a weeping angel or whatever. You have to look at it to make it not attack, makes me want to quit Minecraft bc at this point it isn’t as fun anymore. Anyone agree?

Some of these feel like "I dont like playing the game that way, others must play the game the same way I do". I dont know anyone who likes going to the nether, I dont think thats purely because "it's hard", its because the nether is unfun. Ghasts are a pain the ass, having to wear gold is a pain in the ass, (almost) always hanging over a lava lake is a pain in the ass, getting swamped by hoglins while a zomby pigman insists on hugging you is a pain in the ass.
With that said, if they do get rid of "building on top of the nether roof", then Id propose getting rid of the nether roof entirely and give the nether an open sky (maybe a thematic 'burning sky' where you take progressively more periodic damage the higher you go?)
As for tnt duping, make it possible to move dispensers and provide a way to make sand renewable; (mostly) everyone would be happy.

The improvement I want to see and never hear anyone talk about has to do with tamed pets and maybe mounts.
I want a third option beside them sitting still (or leashed to a post) or following the player.
When the follow they can get in the way, have trouble following or die. Otherwise they just sit there.Like a stuffed animal. Super boring.
Why not have a 3rd mode where they roam free (possibly within a building or fenced of area) and interact with the world.
Cats already have behaviors like sitting on chests and bringing sleeping players stuff. Why not build on that?
If Allays can retrieve objects why not have dogs retrieve sticks and stuff.
Let cats with access to water outside catch fish.
Cats and dogs can chase creepers and skeletons away.
You can even introduce "points of interest" like for villagers.
For example a dog bed, a scratching post and a perch.
Or food stations. You can combine this with Cub's Sugar Cube idea.

Honestly, I like the nether roof, but I do agree that it needs to be less over powered especially the gold farm. If the roof stays it should be fleshed out completely with a better way to get up there other than a glitch. I think mobs should be able to spawn up there but instead just naturally on the bedrock and only on the bedrock adding danger but still allowing building for easier travel while nerfing farms at the same time. It should be more of an end game kind of thing imo. With that I also think that moving mobs should be reworked so its less tedious/annoying and still allowing the roof to stay late game. It should be kind of like elytra; more of a convenience thing than anything but not necessary to enjoy the game or even the best way to do things like farm gold and move villagers.
