I've mentioned it in other threads, but this is not true. There is an AP fact check on this because way too many (adults too) believe this. Businesses act more like an agent to collect funds and are not allowed to claim deductions on these collections.

I don't see the value in sweets anymore... Just a trap, as it's not even that good.
The portions are smaller, but so are the people, the shirt sizes are the same difference: L in Japan is similar to M in US and Europe. And the free refills is just something which pretty much only the US does, so it's not Japan that is the exception.
With tipping, I almost never do it. I was raised with the understanding that tipping was done as a "thank you" to an employee who went above and beyond the call of their position to provide the best experience for me while at the restaurant. It's not something I should be expected to give just because "my boss is a greedy asshole." Call me horrible, but a tip is supposed to be *additional,* a *bonus* to the bill payment, not a requirement or expectation.
most portions worldwide are smaller than US-portions XD I think Restaurants, that serve huge portions, like XXL Restaurants, probably ask you if you want to take the left overs home. So like if you order a 500g Steak + the side dish and you only feel like eating half, you still have a decent meal left for later. In case of Charities..... pick a theme that you personally like (humans, plants, animals,.....) and stick with that. In my experience, they will still try to convince you but most will be happy that you give to some charity group atleast. In my Case, thats the WDC - whale protection. yeah.... you feel bad for not supporting everything... but we all have only limited ressources.
you say that as if it’s something to be ashamed of. it’s just facts. that’s what having a big ass country divided up into territories of similar size to individual countries entails. shit WILL be different territory to territory, state to state. if anything every other country ought to be ashamed that their countries are one trick ponies when compared to the vast scope of the US. euros don’t even try to get it and that’s why they make fun of us. they’re the ignorant ones.
when they ask me at the counter if i want to donate to a charity i just say "no thank you. I only give to specific charities that i know wont give 90% of the money to the charities CEO. And will give the majority of the money to the people who really need the money". That always flips your guilt tripping back on them. person at to counter always regrets asking me. i can see it on their face every time. LOL
Never feel bad for not donating to charity. At a checkout or otherwise. Don't make your life harder, just to make someone else's life A LITTLE easier (and frankly, in general, there's no real way of knowing if you're actually helping). Believe me... This is easier said than done. A positive-toxic trait I have is giving money to others, to the point where I end struggle to make a loan payment or two on time.
I think the more realistic reason for why the restaurants in Japan don't let you bring home your leftovers, has to do more with them thinking the food won't be as good warmed up. Also, a culture of people who don't waste food at the same level of western countries(also probably a reason for the small proportions/dietary lifestyle and teachings from an early age).
Yeah tipping is getting ridiculous, I went to get a pizza at dominos and I'm literally ordering it by talking face to face with the person at the register, he gives me the order total and says if you would like to leave a tip? this was the first time i've gotten asked for a tip by the cashier. I did't say out loud but in my mind i said " Tip? a tip for what? doing your job? This is ridiculous wanting a tip for taking my order in person, it'd be different if i was getting delivery but at the register" told em no but i was so flabbergasted that it was something that was now happening at the food places, I just couldn't believe it.
No, tips are collected and divided among the wait, cooking and busing staff. Sometimes management too if they’re corrupt. You have to give cash if you want it all to go to your waitress.
Tipping at self-checkouts... Sadly, that is a thing here in America, and every time I see it I always ask myself "Who the hell am I meant to be tipping? The guy standing at the end of the checkout row playing on his phone waiting for a help light to pop up?" It really is insane. Tipping needs to be outlawed here and the places forced to pay their employees properly. I am tired of the "We couldn't be in business without tips!" excuse. If you're reliant on tips to keep your staff and that's all that's keeping you above water, your business is doomed anyways.
Yes a lot of us are but at the same time portions are smaller in many places because the people there are smaller than even our fittest people. Diet especially has an effect on growing kids, I knew some Indian dudes in college who grew up here on an American diet and they were both over 6 feet tall while their parents and other relatives who came from India where all under 5 feet.

Raw meat that is not perfectly fresh?
No. It has already been stored a while already and depending on what it is, it was not freezed when on the shelf in the store.
Either way, I do not take chances with cheap meat from the convinience store. I eat it before 5 months.
If it was fresh from a good butcher. It'd be very different. But that's not cheap where I live either.
Henya says no to stopping global warming. She really is based
LMAO I didn't think she'd read my "F those plants" message. 😅
In America you have to pay taxes on your tips unfortunately. That's why it's always nice to tip in cash, then the government can't know to tax it
Also in Japan, McDonalds downgraded many Medium sized drinks that came with menus to small (kid) size because of inflation. It's a fucking travesty.
Part of why we're so fat is because the "regular" size drink in the USA was a large back in the 90s.
*Mandatory gratuity intensifies*
Pro tip. Tip a whole number or an easy to calculate number to make it easier to figure out the total.
you cannot tell me I'm not allowed to bring my left over home I'll bring my own tupperware you will not stop me
"$10 to help people? No! Maybe $1. I have to save money for gacha!"
-Henya, apparently
(It's better to find a good charity through research, though. Look into administration costs and results. Don't give some giant chain store a tax break by donating to charity on their behalf.)
I'm in love with the genius ❤
As a canadian, I never once thought there were free refills at McDonalds. Costco's restaurant on the other hand...
Good prank to play on Henya: just buy her an extra large from a convenience store then sit back and watch her panic.
Gordon Ramsay is a global treasure.
I love smug Henya face dayo!
Gambare, Gambare!
Thanks for not censoring swears, sounds better imo

I was gonna say that sucks, i like my food to go. But that’s actually a really good reason lol
They're trying to destory our hearts
Been on keto diet for epilepsy, so now I feel like it's waste to eat carbs/sugar... Just sparkling water is the best.
Coffee for mornings, and two meals over the day. It's more costly way to live than just eggs and little sausages, because I used to have slim diet too, I was fat first.
50kgs lost in 6 months... Also I cycled then... 3 hours per day. I still have my shaped legs...
But yeah... I keep my weight not going out of the door by having bullet proof coffee.
Stuff that I've gone through or going through.
Yeah my sister had a bunch of shirts that had US, EU, and JP sizes on the label. US and EU were both Large while JP was XXL.
Henya -the Genius- the Broke
I just got back from a trip to Japan and NGL the no tipping was so nice.
With tipping, I almost never do it. I was raised with the understanding that tipping was done as a "thank you" to an employee who went above and beyond the call of their position to provide the best experience for me while at the restaurant. It's not something I should be expected to give just because "my boss is a greedy asshole." Call me horrible, but a tip is supposed to be *additional,* a *bonus* to the bill payment, not a requirement or expectation.
okane ga nai yo~
"would you like to donate to the less fortunate?"
Me: Holds out hand "I am the less fortunate lol" ;-;
charities on checkout is just a way to get tax reduction so dont feel too bad about not donating.
most portions worldwide are smaller than US-portions XD
I think Restaurants, that serve huge portions, like XXL Restaurants, probably ask you if you want to take the left overs home.
I forgot that every thing we do in the states can be answered by "it depends" and the tried and true "something like that."
you say that as if it’s something to be ashamed of. it’s just facts. that’s what having a big ass country divided up into territories of similar size to individual countries entails. shit WILL be different territory to territory, state to state.
if anything every other country ought to be ashamed that their countries are one trick ponies when compared to the vast scope of the US. euros don’t even try to get it and that’s why they make fun of us. they’re the ignorant ones.
“WHERE’S THE LAMB SAUCE!?!?
when they ask me at the counter if i want to donate to a charity i just say "no thank you. I only give to specific charities that i know wont give 90% of the money to the charities CEO. And will give the majority of the money to the people who really need the money".
That always flips your guilt tripping back on them. person at to counter always regrets asking me. i can see it on their face every time. LOL
I ask if they want to round down to donate to my charity.
@@Diviance lol ask if you want to donate to my own charity. i should try that
4:28 is where the clickbait title comes into relevance. 30 seconds or so ahead is where she actaully says it.
Japanese portions are half the size, but the food also costs 1/4 as much. HUGE culture shock, especially if you're used to California prices.
The entire rest of the USA is cheaper than California.
"Would you like to don-"
"LOL LOL LOL no."
Waiter: "You PoS..."
TL note: "PoS" can also mean 'point of sale.'
Never feel bad for not donating to charity. At a checkout or otherwise. Don't make your life harder, just to make someone else's life A LITTLE easier (and frankly, in general, there's no real way of knowing if you're actually helping). Believe me... This is easier said than done. A positive-toxic trait I have is giving money to others, to the point where I end struggle to make a loan payment or two on time.
her accent is so cute 🥺
Nah filipino bring out the tupperware. Plus we tend to grow up with iron stomachs anyway (least the ones that survive)
SEA take away/tapau/to go culture let's go!!!
They don't let you take food home!?
That's such a ridiculous restriction!
I'm pretty broke too but if someone wants the change from rounding up to the nearest dollar I will almost always tip. I hate change
If economy can be cold to people like Henya, its truly rough.
No, tips are collected and divided among the wait, cooking and busing staff. Sometimes management too if they’re corrupt.
You have to give cash if you want it all to go to your waitress.
Binbō Henya dayo
Tipping at self-checkouts... Sadly, that is a thing here in America, and every time I see it I always ask myself "Who the hell am I meant to be tipping? The guy standing at the end of the checkout row playing on his phone waiting for a help light to pop up?" It really is insane. Tipping needs to be outlawed here and the places forced to pay their employees properly. I am tired of the "We couldn't be in business without tips!" excuse. If you're reliant on tips to keep your staff and that's all that's keeping you above water, your business is doomed anyways.
Did henya just call American fat indirectly, wow, no argument there though lol
Yes a lot of us are but at the same time portions are smaller in many places because the people there are smaller than even our fittest people. Diet especially has an effect on growing kids, I knew some Indian dudes in college who grew up here on an American diet and they were both over 6 feet tall while their parents and other relatives who came from India where all under 5 feet.
SHE BAD WITH MONEY?? SHE JUST LIKE ME!! SHE JUST LIKE ME FR FR!!!
If Henya is broke... Whew to the rest of those VTubers out there...
Well she had to take a lot of time off of work because of illness so that probably ate through her savings.
I could be wrong but I recall her saying that her mom manages the money and that Henya only takes out like an allowance. I might be mixing that up with Pekora actually but if that's the case it could just be that she feels more broke than she is because she only sees her allowance most of the time.
Companies that make millions every day asking you to donate. Like, beeyotch, _YOU_ donate to a cause. I'm broke!
sleepy henya looks even cuter then normal
They don't let take the leftovers home ok then i only pay the part of the portion i consumed
Henya pachinko addict confirmed boys...
