    Hey Hilary, one little insight just came to me for other differences between self-preservation 1s and social 6s. I think social 6s are much more likely to follow a rule, whereas self preservation 1s will only follow the rule if they think it's right. This is one thing that often confuses and annoys me with assumptions people make towards type 1s. Yes, we're generally speaking rule followers, but only because we think the rules are right. If we thought they were so heinously wrong, we'd look for a change of some sort.

      absolutely! despite usually being compliant and a ‘teacher’s pet’ for doing everything by the book, i don’t follow rules for the sake of obedience, i follow them because they should be for the good of everyone involved. when i think the rules should change, it’s usually because i think it is unjust or illogical with terrible downstream consequences

    This was a great video Hillary! I wanted to add an interesting piece of commentary though on a difference I've realized between type 1s and type 6s. As a self-preservation 1w2, I can get very passionate when I'm wronged and can want dearly to hold a grudge but annoyingly I always crack. I can't go more than three days without eventually feeling bad for being angry and holding a grudge and then apologizing to the other party for being mad at them. After the fact, I can then go back to trusting them as if nothing ever happened. I do this because holding grudges isn't right. From what I've read though, 6s are less likely to do all this. They're more likely to feel betrayed and lose some form of trust with that person.

    Its funny cause as a six am always obsessing over "am I doing right" not necessarily "doing right". So I've sometimes thought that I was a type 1, but this video helped me realized that a one knows that they know right from wrong, while me as a six is terrified that I dont know right from wrong. Its honestly a really cool thing to think about.

    Hi Hilary, I had another insight I wanted to share and thought this would be a good place for it. I've noticed as a type 1w2 sp/sx, that I have a lot in common with the type 4. I think this is because I'm connected to the 4 through two arrows for the type 1 and type 4. My type 4 tendencies only come up in times of extreme stress and growth, which is why I was so confused early on. This just shows how easy it is to mistype and why behaviors aren't very helpful. Your behaviors might look like a different types based on your arrows or having a countertype.

    I keep going back and forth between types 1 and 9! I have lots of opinions, but often I am afraid to express them. My fears are definitely conflict and making mistakes, but I’m not sure which one is strongest. Also, I feel like my inner critic is focused on actual mistakes and how I come across to others. I am very critical of myself, and while I know I am also critical of others I do keep it to myself because I don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings or come across as rude. I am so worried about getting it wrong, but then perhaps that is a clue in itself?

    I self-typed 9w1 for like 10 years, turns out I'm 1w9. I did initially relate to type 1 as I learned of the enneagram but somehow convinced myself of 9w1 after learning more about the types.
    I did second-guess it at times but for various reasons I was certain of 9 and I didn't fit into all the 1 stereotypes. I lead with the sx instinct though so that colors me more passionate. I remember seeing other 1s confused about 1 or 9 on various forums so this type confusion definitely takes place.

      AGREED! I am a 1w9 and have often struggled wondering if I am a 9w1. After listening to her description of the two, I sound more like a 9w1, however I know deep down my biggest fear is not being good enough, so I'll stick with my 1w9. I DEFINATLY struggle to know where I want to eat. PLEASE PICK FOR ME. Thanks. haha.

      @@elenaharris6021 I've started a (mostly)raw carnivore lifestyle so I don't have the restaurant problem anymore. :)
      If you think about it cooking is the strangest of professions; our ancestors had raw, fat meat on good days, grubs and salad or spoiled meat when there was nothing else. Nothing about restaurant food makes any sense, this must be why it's so difficult to have an opinion on where to go!

    I grew up in a house with two parents that were type 1 and three kids that were NOT. Needless to say, there were some tough days in our house. I love this series, helps me really understand some more of the nuances of each type. Can't wait for the 5!

      @@enneagramandcoaching Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge! I wish I had known more about this when I was a kid. I think it would have helped me to understand why everyone was so different than me. One year for Christmas, we got one of the first "body fat" scales and everyone had to get on that morning so we could write our weight and BMI down and post it on the fridge. That's pretty much how I sum up growing up with two Type 1s. I know any healthy type pair with any healthy type but it just seems like a better balance to have different types in a relationship.

      Christine Durkin you’re so welcome! Your story 😢 I can totally see two type ones doing that. Especially self preservation ones. They probably really felt like they were doing the right thing. I agree with you, I wish I knew about it when I was a kid too. Thank you for sharing Christine. 💛

    You've done it again! This was so helpful, because my husband scores high for 1, 6, 5, and 9. He's not as into the Enneagram as I am (which is ironic, because he introduced me to it!) so he rarely commits to a number. But after watching your video, I've been able to understand him better! I know we shouldn't type others, so I'll just say I *think* I am married to a one. I love this series so much!

Nd one thing I slept discovered lately I feel guilty and feeling that I m bad instantly after I fight with my loved ones fr justice and perfection nd morals and my point nd then say sorry fr actually hurtin their feelings

    Im pretty sure im a 1 but i am a 135 tritype so i heavily heavily related to 3. Its probably because my family is overly encouraging of following your dreams and monetizing your craft. Im also a intj though so im more into my made rules and the occasional group ones if i feel or think they are fair, helpful or good. I also want to follow my goals and perceived future desired self.

      Some questions to ponder-
      Are you Always on the go?
      Wide range of interests?
      Many ongoing professional and creative projects?
      Upbeat and optimistic; glass-half-full outlook?
      Or
      Attuned to practicality and frugality?
      High internal standards?
      Rigidity in plans and decisions?
      Intense ability to concentrate?

    what are the common types that match with the intj infj and istj on the mbti. Also I have asbergers does that have an effect on my type

    • @AdamKyles
      @AdamKyles 16 дней назад

      Sorry it's been 2 years and nobody has replied to you. If you're still interested, it sounds to me like INTJ's and ISTJ's are more likely to be 8's or 1's, and INFJ's are more likely to be 1's or 9's. Maybe 4's, although that might be more common with INFP's. I hope that helps. I'm an INFJ, enneagram 9w1 I think.

    I don't feel like I'm judgmental as much as acknowledging reality. Yep you're overweight, are you always that loud? Don't act so childish. Etc. It has nothing to do with "me" except maybe that I tough love cut their acts short to help them back to a balanced state. But I'm yielding to and acting on behalf of... reality, or common good.

      It's your wording that matters

    • @oscarl.3563
      @oscarl.3563 2 года назад

      @@_linlin_ I'm rarely so on top of my own thoughts to phrase my sentences with care, unfortunately. I'm mbti thinking over feeling, and sometimes say things that sound bad even to myself when I hear them out loud. The phrasing doesn't always run through the feeling circuit before it leaves my mouth, the tone of the voice is needlessly harsh etc.
      Othertimes I mean to be as harsh as possible, because I want to get through to people and have an effect on their thinking. Now that I reflect on it, it is probably easier for me to choose my words with care when I'm on the offense and generally being "mean."
