- I go through this Hardly Rickenbenton with the highest action I've ever witnessed. You could drive a truck under these strings.
Intro sample from:

Frank Sinatra
Are you sure you are the first person to work on this bass. Mine arrived with perfect action straight out of the box, even the intonation was set perfectly, and they fit D,Addario strings stock from the factory. Harley Benton are amazing. 👍♥️🎸👍
I think the bridge is the stuff nightmares are made of. BTW I never saw Stanley Clark pay a ric. Saw him play a gibson eb1 tho
@@josephzummo9685 A terrible design for sure
I thought about getting one when they first came out , if they were easier to get I'd of bought one.
I've got a 4003 but I play my 4 and 5 string Jacksonbackers more 😅
If the strings are rough like that and they're new, I'd assume its cus theyre Stainless Steel instead of Nickel. I think most players prefer the smooth touch of Nickel strings over the roughness of Steels. Personally its because I only really use Ernie ball strings so Im used to those being easy to glide with and prefer that..
These ones were vicious. I'm thinking of trying some flatwound strings on my next project.
Factory strings that cut the shit out of you seem to be the norm nowadays. And yes, they're definitely steel and not nickel-wound.
The first thing I do with any new bass (especially cheap ones) is to change the strings and give it a proper set-up. They are almost always uncomfortable to play and don't do anything good for the tone. Also considering that this bass has travelled from China to Germany and then on to wherever this video is being shot (I am assuming somewhere in North America from the accent) I would expect the truss-rod to need adjusting.
You are probably right. I imagine temperature changes along the way would be a big factor.
Great vid! Funny coincidence, 'cause I was halfway thinking of getting one just for shits 'n' giggles. FWIW I've got a friend with a genuine Rick 4001 from the 70s and the action's JUST AS HIGH 😯 To make matters worse, all the guitar techs in town are afraid to touch it!
Lol. There are worse ways to spend $300 😄 Just some fine tweaks and you'd have a great guitar. It does all the bass things quite bassingly.
@@promognome $300, eh? Only €229 from Thomann in Germany. Be that as it may, I would still consider getting one were it not for the fact that I have far too many instruments as it is, and I recently got on a GAS kick buying sub-€200 Harleys I don't really need just for shits and giggles 'cause they were all surprisingly good and now I've got an 8-string multi-scale that I need to learn how to play. Anyway looks like you've got a great channel; I'll keep stopping by!
