Thank you for being honest and sharing your budgeting experience. Real life story where everything is difficult - not a Hollywood movie. Very rarely found such a detailed report. Merry Christmas you too!
I quite surprised on what's happened. I wish you solve it like many other difficulties. It remind me myself 2 years ago. I was forced to relocate my trimaran project and I had no cover. May be something not standard and unusual solutions. Well I finally solved it exactly as you said. I dig and erected two posts and have wire running above. It supported tarp tent and allowed to rise or down the whole cover with the winch. I also dig the ground below the boat around the keel for access. It will make boat to sit almost on the ground without lifting up. Unfortunately it was always filled with water if it rained. I believe others supporters will not leave you alone with this problem and run "brainstorm" to found the best solution. Fingers crossed! Everything will be fine!
Love your resolve and gumption. You realize that working towards a dream or goal inevitably involves some setbacks and maybe a need to recalibrate. I so enjoy you videos and your unwavering eye on your ultimate goal. Hope you have a great holiday & back at it next week!
The logistics of building a bout is crazy. I would still look at a Farm nearby. They have different laws and they can build up to 80' I believe. many small farmers would love a nice steady income and have a free storage area after. You only need 1/2 acre. I also bet if you find a truck driver to do it for trade it could be done. Give the trucker 2-3 weeks or so in a cabin of the boat where ever they want while you are cruising the world. I feel moving could with a cover speed up the build.
So Sorry to hear of the challenges you guys are facing, I am resisting moving forward in the series, the intrigue does add to the content quality, unfortunately, every cloud has a silver lining, you guys are obviously up to the task, all the best 👍
Happy holidays guys! I guess this is the appropriate time of year to re-evaluate for next year!? It does give you a blank slate to flip the boat around etc. Great to see your motivation overcoming this adversity - thanks for sharing your journey with us! 🎅⛵️
Thanks, and it is our pleasure, even the hard stuff like this, but yes, we will re-evaluate our plan in next week's video for Phase 3 (and finishing Phase 2, which is a bit behind due to this tunnel tent fiasco).
Hi I think i may have the solution for you ...keep the 15 ' legal height with the same exact tent structure, you just have to cut all verticals tubes at 6'of the ground so its easier to raise and lower it splice those tubes with a bigger diameter tube drill holes at various heights and use cross clevis pins that you are going to use to raise the height temporarily to 18 or even 20' to work when you need the height, I'm sure the town ordinance does not say anything about temporarily raising or lowering the tent this way you keep it at the legal height during the working hours of the week then raise it on weekends of during off ours for a couple of hours when needed hope this suggestion works for you .
Firstly, I hope you managed to enjoy Christmas 2023. I admire your focus and fortitude. I hope you have been round to your resident neighbour and apologised - ‘Really sorry neighbour the city made me take my tent structure down so I am going to building this boat, making dust and all that noise for the next four years rather than the planned 18 months’ (only kidding). When you get to the point where the hulls are rotated is it worth drilling drain holes in each canoe at the strategic position?
Maybe a get around with the containers: I see tractor trailer rigs in the background which look legal. Can you rent/ borrow low clearance trailers and put the containers on them (making them transportable, less permanent) Yes it is splitting hair but! Also lower trailer clearance would be less of a climb in.
Wow this is such drag for you guys but it’s clear you will get through it. For site storage how about a truck trailer perhaps with curtain sides this should satisfy the City as its on wheels. When is a tent not a tent?? you could rig up a central ridge pole and a couple of towers at each end, then hoist it up to work and lower it down to act as a cover at the end of the day. No sir this is not a tent it just a slightly movable cover😁 Good luck. 👍
Hi, sorry or all your city issues. I live on a boat in LA and have a nice older box truck with a lift gate for storage. Moving soon and will be selling the truck pretty cheap. If it would work for you let me know.
You may want to explain to some of your viewers how the rain pattern in southern california works. They may not realize that half the year is almost rain free.
Quite infuriating, city regulations can be quite irrational sometimes!! But these are small stumbling blocks, keep moving forward, that's all that matters.
Yes, we considered it. The issue there are flooding of the depression. It doesn't gain us much anyway, since we can't even build a 16' tall tent structure due to the resident issue. But thanks for trying to help with ideas!
One of the harsh realities of taking initiative is the risk of stepping on someboby's toes. You cannot dot every I and cross every T before starting a project, otherwise it won't be started. It show such character and curage that you tell so honest about this setback. It's a pressuretest. You will succeed. You are great, talented people. PS. Can you not convert the containers to trailers by means of some wheels snd axles? And how about using the containertrailers as stands for a collapsable tarp/tent? Just like the hood on a babycarriage...All best and a marry christmas from Denmark.
Hey Jakob. We hope to visit Denmark on our voyage, perhaps we can meet up then! It would be too difficult to put wheels on these 8,000 lb. containers, but thanks for the suggestion!
@@SailingSVLynx it would be an honour to see you and show you around Denmark. I have 25 shipping containers myself, an I do put (agricultural)wheels under some of them. So it can be done! I mean, maybe this can satisfy the State?! :-)
@@SailingSVLynx I see there is several standard wheels/axles on the Internet that you can buy brand new. However, I bought my axle and wheels for 100$ used on ebay.
I'm sorry to hear about the time and money you've lost, but here's a suggestion that might help. If you're planning to purchase a mobile storage unit, why not consider adding a roll-up tarp along its entire side? This could be easily opened and closed, and perhaps even raised for added convenience.
I would be so distressed, I'd find a new location, move the boat & stuff, buy a cheap rv, rent the house out and dox/shame all those working for the devil!
This sucks. Building a boat of this size and complexity without adequate shed will be huge PITA. Quality of the build can also suffer. What is outside city borders? Are there some farms nearby? Maybe you can ask farm owner to rent out say 15x30 meter plot of land where you can relocate and build proper shed. It seems that building in a residential area is a bit of a gamble. What if some neighbours start to complain about noise/smells/dust blowing around. City government could shut your site down because of that and you potentially could be stuck with a boat in unmovable build stage.
Thank you for being honest and sharing your budgeting experience. Real life story where everything is difficult - not a Hollywood movie. Very rarely found such a detailed report. Merry Christmas you too!
Thanks for the kind words, and Happy Holidays to you, Daniel.

Thanks, Edward, we'll keep plugging along until we splash.

We considered it, but raising and lowering an 1800 lb structure while keeping it strong enough for winds is just too difficult.

Too expensive to buy those, unfortunately. Also, getting an 8,000 lb. container up on one would be challenging.
keep going

Nothing will stop us... just slow us a bit.
Could probably pick up an enclosed trailer to keep your tools and such in
That's what we are doing, we're buying a large toy box trailer.
Did you consider digging depressions for the canoes which would lower the overall height?
Yes, we considered it. The issue there are flooding of the depression. It doesn't gain us much anyway, since we can't even build a 16' tall tent structure due to the resident issue. But thanks for trying to help with ideas!
