    I have the MKZ hybrid. Driving between suburbia and Manhattan I get between 40 and 50 mpg's. It's not the speediest car off the line but around here, with all the traffic, who needs speedy! Very comfortable. Nice controls. With the fold-down rear seats I don't mind that the trunk isn't that big. Plus, from the front, the rear, and especially in profile, it doesn't look like anything else.

      @@burberrycurry7517 58 grand is a lot of money to pay for a car that for some reason is only worth 29,000 after one year. I think it's sort of an everyman luxury car. I like that Lincoln makes an affordable luxury car. It's beautiful, drives smooth as silk, and has a lot of useful features. If I could change one thing, it would be the gears. I don't like the placement, and I like the gearshift handle. The placement makes it easier to accidentally bump it and shift into park or reverse going down the road. You can absolutely destroy a transmission that way. But situational awareness can eliminate that. I bought the select model and it comes in on Friday. I've test driven the mkz and knew I had to have it.

    Really like that lincoln front end. The double wing grille really didn't do it for me, but if they give the mkx this styling, I'd be on it. I really think they are stepping up their game and differentiating them like GM has with cadillac.

    Probably the most underrated/overlooked car in the segment. Because it's a Lincoln, it carries a lot of stigma and perception with it that unfortunately keeps a lot of people from taking it seriously.

    Great review Alex! Heres my 2 cents... If you dont care about depreciation, want luxury and tech, and are looking for the most bang for your buck, then look no further than this Lincoln. I recently picked up a 2017 with almost EVERYthing in it for under 30k! No its not a Black Label, I settled for FWD, the entry level Revel audio system (14 speakers and still incredible), and the 2.4l 4 turbo (still great low end torque), but every other check mark was checked. On top of all that I got the CPO 6k 100k comprehensive. warranty. There are deals to be had right now that will net you an incredible feature laden car for less money than the competition. To put things in perspective, Ive owned a lot of cars, including this cars near competitors...the Audi A6, MB E350, BMW 535i xDive, Kia Cadenza (1st gen) just to name a few... Save for the Cadenza most of those cars drove better, and had a higher amount of luxury and cache (again, save for the Cadenza), but NONE of these vehicles matched the luxury amenity levels of style and tech the Lincoln provides unless youre willing to spend a LOT more money. The delta between the Lincoln and those cars is close enough that in the end it wont matter...to me anyway. I enjoy driving, and Ive owned 4 BMWs, and nothing, NOTHING drives like a BMW, but I wanted a car to future proof me tech wise and still provide the luxury Ive been accustomed to...this 2017 MKZ fit the bill. Price and spec wise its be hard to beat right now as Im not going to spend 40 to 60k for a comparable German car. Also...I looked at the new Cadenza...looked at it long and hard, and it matches the MKZ feature set spec for spec (save for AWD). I had the previous model and loved it, and the new look took its refinement and content to the next lev,...so Alex was right, looking at just value its a winner...BUT, me personally, I felt the look/style and percieved cache of the Lincoln was the differentiator... for ME. I dont get hung up on brands too much (hence owning a Kia) but I do have a soft spot for Ford and Lincoln. I'ved owned an Expedition, and a Navigtor, and recently my wife had the MKT...and I never had an issue or problem with any of those vehicles (Ive had Cadlillacs too, and had problemes!). I agree that Lincoln has lost its way over the years, but theyve coaxed me back in! With the new Continental, Navigator, Nautilus (re-named MKX) and the MKZ (soon to be renamed) I think Lincoln is on to something. Now, I WILL go back to BMW eventually, but for now its the MKZ for me! That my 2 cents...!

    This car lost me when you said it's got significant wind noise. Great review! If I bought one, I'd opt for the 2.0T AWD. I have the 2012 MKZ with AWD--it's nice, but I've wished for a softer ride and less ambient noise. It sounds like, despite the rocketing price and packed-in features, they still do not have it quiet and comfortable enough. I like and need the fold down rear seat, which is why I didn't go one model higher. I don't need the most powerful engine, but I do need AWD. I love a quiet interior and a great sound system. My ideal: this car in black and chrome with 2.0, AWD, hard top (no roof glass), premium sound without Sirius/XM (I dislike that company), tan leather interior, narrower, 16-inch wheels for a quieter, softer ride.

    Best MKZ I've seen to date. There's a lot to like in this car. It looks fantastic IMHO, which I suspect we have the Jaguar connection to thank for that. I'm wondering if maybe the MKZ adopted those bladder sears from Jag as well? So choice! Love the push button transmission controls, that really cleans up the dash IMHO. No shift lever or stank to deal with. And for once, the price isn't over the top! But geez...that generic 6-speed. Once again, LIncoln finds itself slightly behind the curve, in a segment where the competition is tight. Once that new transmission ships, the 400-horse plant will be truly fearsome. I would NOT get the hybrid for sure, of this or any brand. But Alex is right. That Cadenza is hard to beat for price. I think if I wanted to go American, I'd save up a little more money and get that new Caddy sedan ( not the SUV). I spaced the model, but the newest one seems very intriguing to me. The price of that car climbs quickly from the base, but the base is the best value IMHO. Anyway, again I"d at least wait for the new transmission on the Lincoln.

    I love the hybrids so far. I owned a 2011 and now a 2016 MKZ hybrid. I just wish my 2016 had the Sync3 with Android Auto. But other than that I'm very happy and see very little difference with the 2017 models. I didn't realize my tire size is probably keeping me from getting better gas mileage, but I always felt my braking was top notch so I can live with the Delta. As always an excellent review.

    Alex completely agree on your picks. I would only have the MKZ ahead of the Cadenza if they made the Black Label standard on it so It topped out at $45k. That would be a steal. As is, the Cadenza interior is far greater than the Lincoln without the black label leather for far less. Cadenza for me

      Yep. The Toyota, GM and Ford planetary hybrid systems are all closely related in terms of design but no actual parts are shared. The new Chrysler system is also related in terms of general design but it's a little farther apart than Voltec2, the latest HSD in the Prius Prime or the Ford hybrid units.

    This is a fantastic car, my only dislike on the old one was the Baleen Whale grille and they've fixed that beautifully. Even though this hybrid system is now almost a decade old, it's still one of the best. Super smooth and quiet, 30+ MPG all day even if you beat the shit out of it, and plenty of power. I grew up with 80s and 90s cars - 7.8 0-60 still seems "fast" to me, haha

    Hi Alex, Thanks for yet another detailed and thoughtful review. I was surprised to see you road noise score as a B, though. I am familiar with this car and it is very quiet. I am wondering what the road conditions were during your test. Wet pavement and tires will definitely increase the road noise compared to when they are dry. Also, were you on the "gas" while taking your measurement? I know it is quite hilly where you live. :-)

      I noticed his test car is running on the larger 19" wheels and in my experience the 18" wheels lower road noise, raise the fuel economy, and smooth out the ride all in modest amounts but make the slight improvement in handling with the larger wheels a poor value in my book.

    Another thing to keep in mind in deciding in brands….and that is badge ID….face it…you will be judged differently if you are driving a Lincoln or Lexus compared to a KIA. It’s just human nature. It may not be important to you, but it will affect resale.

    Underrated car, but I hate the new tacked-on grille. The old grille was way better.
    Strange that they gave this a facelift, but did not make the transmission competitive
    1:40 Love the sleek, aggressive profile.

      I think Ford will fix this soon since the new 9-speed Ford/GM units are starting to roll out of the factory now.

      Alex, I spoke with a couple Ford reps at the Chicago Auto Show about this last week. Neither would commit to when / where / or even if the new 9-speed would show up. Curious whether compatibility problems are still being ironed out with regard to their turbo engines.

      My respect and admiration ☺ for the grill on the Lincoln MKX 2016 is because when I look at it has the appearance of angel wings. Giving the grill a celestial style 😇 to the front bumper 🚘 of the luxury vehicle.

    Roller bags with a little flexibility may not be as bulletproof but are a little forgiving for packing in tight spaces.

    that facelift without touching the rear.. very very weird. The new Lincoln front face is a rertro elegant style, the previus MKZ was edgy

      It is weird. I like the front but the back looks shite. Also the interior is old Lincoln, they needed to change it.

  • @jermichaelkirkland2446
    @jermichaelkirkland2446 Год назад

    I drove one of these and a crossover could never make strides so smoothly over asphalt. The interior space is acceptable. Overall the vehicle dynamics are superior to suvs. Sadly there's no 3rd generation mkz.

    If Lincoln wants to be taken seriously, they must up their game. The Black Label package should be standard fare on the 3.0TT Mkz. Use real aluminum, higher grade plastics and go all out. Lincoln has a lot of potential but whoever is in charge needs to get his/her head out of their ass and work.

    The V6 in the Lexus ES does 0-60 in about 6 seconds, so I don't know how you did that with the base Lincoln 4 banger. The Lexus is lighter with more gears, and that V6 is hearty

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  7 лет назад +5

      I'm not sure what you mean, the Lexus ES still uses the older 6-speed Aisin transmission Toyota/Lexus has been very cautious about rolling out the 8-speed so far. The MKZ is heavier, but the delta is under 160 lbs. Toyota's own stated 0-60 time for the ES 350 is 7.1 seconds.

    Great review. You certainly have a way with words. Unfortunately I wish you had compared a fully loaded Black Label 2017 MKZ with the 2017 Fusion Platinum rather than a generic mkz vs fusion. Feature by feature the highest end versions of these two automobiles seem to be a match, minus the extended warranty and free car washes, etc with the Black Label MKZ. I own a 2017 Fusion Platinum and I'm very happy with it and would enjoy listening to your opinions on it vs the competition. Probably the only other vehicle I would look at in the future is a Black Label MKZ, provided Ford still makes them.

    10:27 This is why I hate leather seats. At least it's one of the reasons...
    Is this car 15 years old? Because mine is, and it has 200k miles on it. And I just spotted the first little wrinkles on the seat. Ok, mine has the arguably superior and more premium cloth seats.
