The holy grail of drummers not just speed and tremendous technique buddy had that extra something that made him a force that was recognized by all musicians the king of drumming enough said
Wow! Buddy using match grip for most, if not all, of the second tune. A rare occurrence for sure.
I agree! Very rare for him
@Drummer J.L.H. Yes, when soloing on the floor toms and lead-ins to a tune, such as Channel 1 Suite. Notice, however, that as soon as Dorsey's band comes in, he switches back to traditional/standard grip. In this case, he played the entire tune using matched grip. There's a clip on RUclips of Buddy soloing to Caravan with Harry James. He starts that solo off matched grip, but then switches shortly thereafter and then finishes with matched grip on the floor toms and his right crash cymbal.
@Drummer J.L.H. Just what most drummers of that era were doing. The hi-hat was kept lower than in later years, but not as high as most rock drummers kept theirs.
Rare for him to play in a kinda funky style.
@@crlaw75 Check out some of the tunes on his "A Different Drummer" and "Speak No Evil" albums.
🎈 ‘🎶 ‘Good to see ‘Cathy Rich ‘ !!!🎵🤓🙏🏼💐🎭💃🕺🏼
Funky bass playing.
THE BUS TAPES!!!
Don't tell me what the best chart in the book is. I'm a success without you and your writing.
Man. .. right out of the gate ...a snappy tune like that wow
🙏❤🌹Buddy, Jerry, ...🌹❤🙏
Best drummer ever .. in any category!!
That amount raised must've been something back in '76, even surprising Jerry himself.
This must've been recorded past midnight, according to the time on the clock.
What's really rare here is the loose band concept in the 2nd number. That, and the House of David big band beards!
WOW…fancy having the world’s greatest drummer backing you…even though it’s dad..😊
Steve Marcus- tenor/ soprano sax;; Bob Mintzer- 2nd tenor sax.Ross Konikoff- trumpet. Chuck Wilson, Bill Blount- alto saxes. maybe Turk Mauro, baritone sax.Dean Pratt- trumpet. Dave Stahl- lead trumpet. Sounds like Tom Warrington- electric bass.
Still Jon Burr on bass...Tom came in a a bit later.
@@acedrumminman Burr played double bass at Carnegie Hall Newport jazz festival
Rick Stepton lead trombone , John Marshall trumpet
@@karalujo Trumpets: Ross Konikoff, Dave Stahl, Dean Pratt, Larry Moses.
Ah yes, Cathy Rich and Bev Getz ( daughter of Stan Getz). I remember seeing them at a free concert in the center of Northland Mall back in 76'.
dave stahl, trumpet
Buddy is slaying the Funk here. ❤
Saw this band...damn man....they would "modulate" the room...
I can taste it. Miss him
Beyond
Apparently didn't like bass drum anchors. Instead, nails or, like here, sandbags! I wonder why...Did he think they affected the sound of the BD somehow? Dazzling playing, Cathy, Dean Pratt, & Bob Mintzer!
The hard floor is no friend of bass spurs. Bags keep the bass drum from drifting. Joe Morello had that problem, don't know why he (Joe) didn't just use a carpet.
Match grip?…he lied.
Really???
