It shows error: no such partition Entering rescue mode Grub rescue> Idk what to do?.. Command which you used...it not working..idk even how exit from that could u please reply
If it says Access is denied while you write bootrec /fixboot, simply type: bootsect /nt60 sys /mbr And type again: bootrec /fixboot Like so people can see.
Problem 1: Bootrec /fixboot throwing "access denied" Solution : bootsect/nt60 sys Then do Bootrec /fixboot Problem 2) Bootrec /scanos giving "total identified windows installations 0" Just go ahead with Bootrec /rebuildbcd
Its scary thatafter doing rebuildbcd, still says windows installations 0, but go on, exit the terminal and reboot the system, It will a lot of time than normal to boot into the win 10 system, but this comment code works
For people in future who are going to try this method. First remove grub then the partition. It will save you a lot of effort later. Otherwise excellent video. Thanks!
Should've red this. Now I'm making a windows cd just to repair my bootloader Update: I succeeded, but yeah just remove grub first because otherwise you might be prompted with grub rescue and that's more complicated to fix
So, First, thanks for your tutorial. It helped me BUT : I had some issues : The first was the fact that I had the well known "Access denied" for the "bootrec /fixboot" command (that was solved with the "bootsect /nt60 sys /mbr" command (thanks to Adwyred YT)) Then I got the "Total identified windows installations: 0" problem. I tried to repair the bcd, that didn't work (with tons of command resulting in "Path c:\boot not found"). So I restarted my pc (to reinstall windows), but it loaded my windows session without asking me anything. I don't know why it did this, but it's working fine for now. I'm sharing this so maybe it can help some people having the same troubles as me.
Thanks, good video. In case anyone has the problem I had: When you right-click a partition and only get "help", no option to "delete volume" then follow these steps, it worked for me. (Though make sure you delete the correct drive) Open Command Prompt as Administrator. Type diskpart then hit Enter Type rescan then hit Enter Type list disk then hit Enter Type select disk X then hit Enter
Guys after you remove the grub boot loader and bootrec /rebuildbcd or stuff done successfully but still your not able to go into windows, Don't panic just restart your pc press esc button or f8 f10 depends on your pc bios then enter your BIOS go to boot order list or boot menu then you can see your windows boot disk just take that to the top to load that and save and exit restart it once again there you go you will boot into windows . I hope this helps you :)

Hello my friend, it is working however when I try this operation bootrec /scanos and hit enter the system did not found any Windows installation. Weird! Maybe because Ubuntu was on disk1 and Windows10 on disk 0? However I continue with your explanation. So, I did bootrec /rebuildbcd. The same, operation completed but no Windows found. I get worried but after booting again everything worked well! Awesome! And before that I got this message : Access denied" for the "bootrec /fixboot" command. That was solved with the "bootsect /nt60 sys /mbr" command. Thanks to my friend Adwyred YT!!
A Complete Guide (including the solutions to all the problems that could be encountered): Part 1: Removing the Ubuntu OS - Login into Windows - Open Disk Management. Identify which partition contains Ubuntu. Generally there are only two partitions but there can be more depending on how you configured the system during installation. Right-click on the Ubuntu partition(s) and select Delete (If it says 'Free space' after deleting, delete once more and it should now show 'Unallocated'). Now right-click your Windows partition and select Extend Volume. Keep clicking Next when the Wizard opens. Part 2: Removing the GRUB Bootloader - Open the Windows Start Menu. Click on the Power button, then hold down the Shift key and select Restart. Keep holding till you see a blue Options Menu Screen. Open Troubleshoot, then select Command Prompt. If you end up in GNU GRUB, just enter exit, then select your User and enter your password to access the Command Prompt. - Once in the Command Prompt, enter the following series of commands: - bootrec /fixmbr - bootrec /fixboot (If it denies access, enter bootsect/nt60 sys and try again) - bootrec /scanos (If it says Total identified Windows installations: 0, instead of 1, just continue) - bootrec /rebuildbcd (If asked whether to add installation to boot list, enter A) - exit - You should now be back in the Options Menu. Select Continue. - If you end up in GNU GRUB again, reboot your system, enter the BIOS settings and change the boot order to bring Windows to the top. - You're done! PS: If you encounter any other problems, please do let me know and I'll try to add them as soon as possible.
This just left my laptop in a loop of black screen and a non-functional Grub screen, as mentioned by previous posters. To quote, it says "GNU GRUB version 2.02. Minimal Bash-I like line editing is supported. For the firs word, TAB lists possible command completions. Anywhere else TAB lists possible device or file competitions." When I type exit, it just loops back to that screen again. Everything was frozen. Luckily I found a solution of pressing F1 to get into bios and was able to simply change the boot order to boot Windows as priority over Linux Grub. I thought my computer was dead. I think you should add something to your video addressing this potential problem. I was worried I had just turned my laptop into a paper weight...

Thanks man! I was downloading extensions for my ubuntu desktop, so i messed up badly. Some of my settings did not work after. So i wanted to reinstall ubuntu, but had to delete the old one first! again thanks a lot.
If nothing works there might be a restart key on your laptop just use a pin to press it.This will take you to the boot menu from where you can change the boot options.
Did you get an answer to this anywhere else? This happened to me. I continued on with the remaining commands like the rebuild and a and then exit and then continue Things are working fine as of now No data loss, no settings change nothing
Thanks So much for this video...I've been wanting to get rid of my WinFX drive/installation forever, but didn't know how to get rid of the annoying boot selection list upon PC startup. This worked great!
If you get 0 installations or can’t remove it. Shut down your pc and when you reboot it, it will not start back up. But this is an ez fix open boot menu when you start up pc, such as f2 or f12 depending on your pc then switch the windows boot to the top of any other boot. Then it will boot up that instead. This only works if you installed a bot and put it above windows. If it rewrote your old boot it won’t work but should work since this searches for different boot managers.

Heres a helpful comment If the linux distro is on a seperate drive, you can completely wipe the drive by going into disk manager, right clicking all of the drive's partitions, deleting them, and doing whatever you want with the drive customizability.
Ok so following are the problems i faced and how i fixed. plz read it might help you -First it showd acces denied to which i followed adwyred yt suggestion which helped. -then it showed identified installations =0 to which i read some other comments and just restarted the pc. (it did'nt help also). Then i restarted it again and went to the system bios and there my linux priority was on top. simply uncheck that or move it to the last and then restart your pc. I really hope it helps someone like me :)
Bro when I am trying to extend the volume,it's showing "The operation you selected will convert the selected basic disk(s) to dynamic disk(s).If you convert the disk(s) to dynamic, you will not be able to start installed operating systems from any volume on the diak(s) (expect the current boot volume). Are you sure you want to continue?" When I click Yes, it shows an error saying, "The selected GPT formatted disk contains a partition which is not of type 'PARTITION_BASIC_DATA_GUID', and is both preceeded and followed by a partition of type 'PARTITION_BASIC_DATA_GUID'." What should I do ?
What's the difference between your "fixing mbr" method and "deleting the efi boot folder of the linux distro using diskpart method" in terminal from XaHertz' channel?
Thos with issues accesing the command prompt. My pc didn't even have that option. You have to pop in your installation CD or a bootable usb key (I created mine with Rufus). Then boot from the CD/usb and within the OS installation wizard choose the repair option, you'll find the command prompt inside
Yes,That happend to me also. But luckily I had my windows installation disk. If you have a android phone, download etchdroid and ububtu iso. Then make your usb bootable. After installing ubuntu turn off your pc. And you will see windows boot option. Hope this helps :)
Great video, sir; very well done. I'm curious - any reason not to just go to the "cmd" command but select the "Run as administrator" option instead of doing the shift +Restart sequence you described?
Help anyone! when I clicked on the command prompt in advanced settings my computer restarted and says: grub rescue> I typed exit but nothing happens just goes back to say grub rescue
Can't we use those commands by logging into either admin account regularly in win 10 after wiping Ubuntu drive , is it necessary to boot into troubleshooting menu to fix the boot menu ?
If it says total identified windows installations :0 Then try this Run diskpart Type: list disk then sel disk X where X is the drive your boot files reside on Type list vol to see all partitions (volumes) on the disk (the EFI volume will be formatted in FAT, others will be NTFS) Select the EFI volume by typing: sel vol Y where Y is the SYSTEM volume (this is almost always the EFI partition) For convenience, assign a drive letter by typing: assign letter=Z: where Z is a free (unused) drive letter Type exit to leave disk part While still in the cmd prompt, type: Z: and hit enter, where Z was the drive letter you just created. Type dir to list directories on this mounted EFI partition If you are in the right place, you should see a directory called EFI Type cd EFI and then dir to list the child directories inside EFI Type rmdir /S ubuntu to delete the ubuntu boot directory
I followed the same steps as soon as i click on command prompt in advanced settings options , grub rescue options has appeared ; completely different from what it is show in the video
I experienced the same issue too and nearly got a heart attack. you can type "exit" and press enter. if it prompts, again type "exit" and press enter again. then you'll be prompted to enter your password like the rest of the tutorial.
When I clicked on command prompt by system restarted and now I'm getting this "grub rescue>" when rebooting. Now I'm unable to access both windows as well as ubuntu. Please help...
ATTENTION EVERYONE,whoever has Windows 10 DON'T DELETE THE UBUNTU PARTITION YET,because when u delete it and go to troubleshooting, your PC will Restart, and when it does it will go automatically to grub rescue, first do the troubleshooting steps, then delete the Partition Completely
I was following your instructions very carefully step by step but after choosing comand prompt option my pc just stopped and I am facing error called no such partition . Grub rescue > I am not able to solve this error even after watching 10-12 video tutorials. Now provide me solution for this big mess. My laptop is not working . It shows error.
In the command prompt... type the following commands: diskpart list disk (Now select the disk in which windows in installed. For eg. disk 0) select disk 0 list partition (Now note down the partition no. in which your windows is installed. For eg. 1) select partition 1 active Now reboot... That should restore your system Pls let me know if that worked
Total identified windows installation: 0 Also, when I shutdown and turn on, getting the command prompt GNU GRUB version 2.04 When tried the command, bootrec /fixboot, got the response as Access Denied
boot as bios by shut down and press f2 (depend on your device)... it should enter bios mode now... go to bootloader section and choose windows boot manager as recommended bootloader by placing windows boot manager as the 1st bootloader and ubuntu on second... save and restart and now your device should boot from windows
ONE thing that work that before restarting windows open cmd as admin and type bootrec /fixmbr then press enter it always work and normaly restart or shutdown as your needs. I hope this will help.
Nooooo! PLease help! I deleted the ubuntu partitions. I restarted my pc without pressing the shift key and now I am stuck on a black screen saying: error: unknown filesystem. grub rescue> Please help someone
Go into your boot menu (google your boot menu key on hard restart (press power key), On HP its press and hold ESC, then access start menu then F9 to access boot menu and select Windows Boot Manager.
The simpliest thing i did is: i removed Ubuntu then i removed kali linux then with "AOMEI partition assistant" i selected the whole disk and i clicked on "Rebuild MBR" then i booted from win10 Normally without using cmd :) ....& Everything works fine. I think that the big problem when removing linux is in MBR so when we Rebuild that we don't have to worry to lose the entire Disk....i can't believe i did that hh, this is the first time i did not lose my disk
After holding shift and pressing restart I accidentally clicked continue and it restated my pc and now my boot area is messed up ): Edit: error : no such partition grub rescue>

Thanks So much for this video...I've been wanting to get rid of my WinFX drive/installation forever, but didn't know how to get rid of the annoying boot selection list upon PC startup. This worked great!
question: how did you even get to that begining screen, in the begining of the video?
The grub loader menu? It comes along with the standard ubuntu installation, if you don't have it then something's up with your installation.
this is the virtual box app
If you get 0 installations or can’t remove it. Shut down your pc and when you reboot it, it will not start back up. But this is an ez fix open boot menu when you start up pc, such as f2 or f12 depending on your pc then switch the windows boot to the top of any other boot. Then it will boot up that instead. This only works if you installed a bot and put it above windows. If it rewrote your old boot it won’t work but should work since this searches for different boot managers.

There seems to be further issues even after running Adwyred YT's solution: but Harshith Batchu has provided the solution for that as well.
If it says "Access is denied" while you write bootrec /fixboot, simply type: bootsect /nt60 sys /mbr
And type again: bootrec /fixboot
if it says "Total identified windows installations: 0" after running the above commands,
run the following: (only the lines with '>' symbol must be run; the rest are explanations.)
*>diskpart*
*>list disk*
then select the disk in which windows was installed, generally it is 0, but I say disk X for example, run
*>sel disk X*
*>list vol*
all volumes will be listed. the EFI volume will be formatted in FAT, others will be NTFS.
*>sel vol Y*
where Y is the SYSTEM volume (this is almost always the EFI partition)
For convenience, assign a drive letter by typing
*>assign letter=Z:*
where Z is a free (unused) drive letter
*>exit*
to leave diskpart
*>Z:*
hit enter to enter the drive you just created.
to list directories on this mounted EFI partition, type:
*>dir*
If you are in the right place, you should see a directory called EFI
*>cd EFI*
*>dir*
To list child directories inside EFI
*>rmdir /S ubuntu*
to delete ubuntu; press y when prompted. then type
*>exit*
to exit the cmd, and then click the proceed to windows option.

If the linux distro is on a seperate drive, you can completely wipe the drive by going into disk manager, right clicking all of the drive's partitions, deleting them, and doing whatever you want with the drive customizability.
When i entered the command "bootrec /fixmbr", i got the message "the specific file is not found". What should i do ?
