    Very nice, I have to put on my headphones and listen again. I love the mostly or all playing demos. They really give me a sense of the capabilities of the instrument. I got to see Horace Silver twice. Once in the 60's at the "Band Box" on east Colfax in Denver, Colorado. I was 16 or 17 years old at the time. That was the great quintet with Horace Silver - Piano ▪ Blue Mitchell - Trumpet ▪ Junior Cook - Tenor Sax ▪ Gene Taylor - Bass ▪ Roy Brooks - Drums. It was an incredible experience. It was entirely mesmerizing. Many years later, he came to Vartan's Jazz in the Cherry Creek North DIstrict of Denver with a Sextet. I was able to talk to him after the show, and later on I sent him a letter to which he responded with a hand written reply. We keep that letter in the safety deposit box. Several years after that, there was a guest artist at the University of Denver. She was an old jazz singer who worked extensively in NYC. I asked her about Horace, and she said he had Alzheimer's and was no longer playing. He was absolutely one of the greatest jazz musicians of all time. I believe one of his last albums was "The Hard Bop Grand-pop." Although I only had very limited personal contact with him, he has always been a tremendous inspiration. Thanks for playing that religious music. You did it justice. I'll make another Horace Silver request: "Nica's Dream."

      I'll add as a pianist, you totally carve Horace, but as a down to the earth, into the roots, absolutely cookin' locked in the groove jazz player, no one tops Horace.

      @@JoeLinux2000 Have to agree there - Horace is tops for that style of playing. Anyways, loved the story of you seeing Horace live. In a bit of a follow up to that, I put out an record with Stu Mac (open.spotify.com/album/0vzAEEJQ45GuQzDJyY2gen) where we recorded this. And Horace's tunes were the ONLY license where the Canadian licensing agency couldn't get the rights - so we had to hunt down Horace Silver's son in NY on our own and negotiate a licence for the tune. So surreal. Anyways, always love the comments...have a good one! -stu

    Clicking through all your demo performances has made the most enjoyable Friday evening concert at week’s end. I so enjoyed your phasing and arrangements. Never mind that I stopped listening to the piano but got swept by the performance. Thank you!! 🙏👍

    @MerriamPianos thanks Brent for replying.
    I'm currently playing a Casio GP310 in a library, and I do love the touch, it's firm and very responsive. I asked you the question, because they keep saying that even if set at the heaviest touch sensitivity, the Casio GP 510 is still lighter than most acoustic grand pianos, and it seems the speed repetition is faster also than them. And my fear is that unless you practice on acoustic too, it might be more difficult to play advanced classical music, especially that with difficult and very fast passages on acoustic grand pianos and easier on the GP510. A RUclips graduated pianist and who works in a showroom, suggested me not to invest in the Casio 510 , but choose for more entry level digital as the Yamaha YDP165 or this P515, because they have an heavier touch. And I asked you because I couldn't try yet these two Yamaha models. Many other GP510 owners to whom I asked it, told me that the acoustic grand pianos are a bit heavier but you adapt quickly and easily if from the GP510. My concern is that it seems all of them practice on acoustic grand pianos too. So I thought it might not be very reliable to state that

      You're very welcome! Thanks for writing in! At the end of the day, the only way to access an acoustic grand piano experience is to play on an acoustic grand piano. Even the very best and most sophisticated hybrid digital pianos are an attempt to emulate the real thing. While some get impressively close, there will always be nuances and details that you will only be able to extract from an acoustic instrument. With that said, having a digital piano that bridges that gap as closely as possible is necessary for some pianists that either can't afford the price or space for a acoustic grand.

    Which feels and plays more like a real acoustic - the Yamaha P515 or the Kawai CN29?

    How would you compare yhe Yamaha P515 with the Casio GP510 in order to study advanced classical music? Is the touch heavier than the Casio GP510? With which model would make more difficult to play advanced classical music on acoustic grand pianos?

      Hi! Brent here! The GP510 has a heavier and more authentic action in my opinion. This is also reflected in the price of course. I would say that it would be the preferred choice if you're looking for something that is as similar to an acoustic grand piano playing experience as possible. :)

    Hi, how did you record sound of P515 please ?

    • @agaveboy
      @agaveboy 4 года назад

      Andrew Croisé you should use a usb to record the sound. Alternatively, you can use an aux chord, however the sound is outputted with lower quality, so you should definitely stick to the USB.

      cOO0le throughly USB , are you refering to MIDI ?

    • @andrewc.1240
      @andrewc.1240 4 года назад +1

      @@cimottt4261 P515 has the USB audio function. Basically this means that it can act as a USB microphone when you plug into a computer so that if you use any recording applications you can directly record (digitally) the piano sound generated from the P515. Of course you can use MIDI but it will not sound the same as what you hear from the P515 directly.
      This function works with the built-in drivers of Android (connecting via USB otg cables) and Linux. For Windows, you need to install the "Yamaha Steinberg USB Driver" available on the download page of P515 since it has some trouble with the built-in driver.
