one of the most beautiful interviews about vinyl record and its market in India...Thanks you so much for this video....I am a record lovers but now I stopped buying record for continuous increasing of price...also Thanks for Jaiswal saab for his sharing knowledge with us...one more thing you should say his shop name or online website name...thanks again
Excellent !! Very informative video. It's shame that majority younger Indian generation doesn't have a true appetite for records, and on the top of that the records dealers, mostly selling second hand records, are charging exorbitant prices from the music lovers. I have been collecting 78 rpm, LPs and Eps since early 70's. Some of the 78 RPMs, besides HMV, are from The Twin, Young India, Columbia, New Theater's, Radio, Nishat, Hindustan, Megaphone and Jien-o-Phone dating back to 1930s and are in excellent shape. I have noticed the quality of UK pressed HMV 78 RPM (which the HMV pressed for the RCA) is considerably inferior to the records pressed in the Dum Dum, India factory. I sincerely wish that Mr. Jaiswal et al start their own record pressing lab in India, and bring back some rare titles back and try exporting some of the popular titles, though in limited numbers initially, to Sunrise Records and London Drug shops in Canada and also to US and UK markets. I'm sure they would find a good number of customers there. They should also promote regional music on LP records.
Everything is fine. But the biggest problem is the equipments and technical support. So its always with those who make an effort to get equipments. So the market wontt grow as its not easy to buy a turntable for a common man and even impossible to get technical support . So this market will be limited. Unfortunate
In 2001 ,I used to buy onky 78 rpm records and my office colleague who was tranferred to some other state had offered me 500 plus LPs and EPs at a very cheap rates but I was mad after 78rpm records and today I rue my decision.I was getting many records for Rs 30 to Rs 40 between 2003 to 2010 but I avoided those nice titles also because of kishore Kumar songs but now I am searching for kk songs and such records prices have gone thru the roof.
Came to know lot of new things. I am also a vinyl record lover.I started to purchase from 1976, and total I have approx 100 nos. Many years it was available from old markets.I purchased from Kolkata and few from Mumbai. But after covid lock down suddenly price of the records started to increase. I used to buy LP at 40/50, but now it is at least 500/.
Hi Subhasis, nice to hear from you. Great to know about your collection; sounds really impressive. And the price hike is actually really sad. As you rightly mentioned, after covid, it really got out of hand. I rarely buy records myself now.
Main culprit HMV hai jisne totally original spools aur dies destroy kar diya Aaj HMV bahut fayde mein hoti.HMV ko gukshan kumar ne lesson sikhaya but tab tak to sarvanash ho chuka tha Ye to bhala ho chor bazaar walon ka jo ki bahut sensitive bhi hote hain aur songs ko samajhte bhi hain aur isiliye ab log wahan bhag rahe hain lekin ab wo apni keemat vasool rahe hain.
HMV is completely hopeless. Lack of foresight. Aksar gaana ko chop karke chota kar deta tha, asli tape bhi nahin hai aur pura gaana bhi nahin milta kahin pe. Aqal ke bina bhi business kar liye HMV walon ne. Kachra pulley drive ka record player fiesta becha itna sara aur wo bhi 500 rupye mein 1985 k aspas. Maximum records log usii mein bajaya. Ab isliye zyadatar records jo bhi milte hai kharab condition ke hote hain kyun ke sada hua ceramic cartridge ne khod khod kar gadda bana diya records mein. HMV KO KABHI BHI GUNVATTA SE KOI LENA DENA NAHIN THA. Itne behtareen gaane, jaise Aandhi, Amar Prem ko bhi mono mein kachra quality ka spool mein record kiya jab ke videsh mein quadrophonic records mil raha tha! 1975 ke videshi recording aur yahan ka recording mein zameen asmaan ka farq hai. 1958 k videshi recording stereo mein sunkar main hayran rah gaya. Yahan to 1990 mein bhi kuch kuch mono ata tha. Aur frequency range to chhor hi dijiye. Hopeless worthless HMV walon ne ab tak woh sab master tape bhi kabadiwale ko de chuka hoga.
Absolutely agree on Pricing very big factor I just bought a record player as it always was my childhood dream, however looking at the picture of record price condition totally confused where can I get good records new ones like fresh pressing I am a big fan of R D dont know how to get records at a actual price... please if you could suggest in Mumbai any authentic place and value for money
First of all, welcome to the world of vinyl. Records are surely very expensive to buy but this has pushed me to think and figure out which are the songs that I really like and slowly I am developing a library of all the songs I enjoy like a lot! For buying old records, I would say one has to keep hunting. I live in a village up north so the only accessible mode for me is online search and I think that's a good place to start. When a title is repressed, re-released or released for the first time, the prices are generally reasonable. I would suggest u to keep these things in mind while making the purchases. At times, when the LP record for a title is beyond affordability, I go for a cd or an audio cassette for that title. But then, to play a cassette or CD, one has to have a good player.
I got the new LPs of Border & Pukar (Rahman) at MRP price, Ishtar label, very poor quality, compressed vocal like MP3. It’s made in Poland but useless. How to check the quality before ordering?
So far my experience tells me that most of the Vinyl LP re-issues these days done in Bharat, be it from Saregama or Universal or others companies, are all sourced from digital files. Most of the original master tapes of our great music from Bharat are either in poor condition or destroyed or lost forever. The digital remastering is done horribly by people who do not have any musical sense nor have any idea how to do the analog to digital mastering right. On top of it, the poor lacquer cutting, poor vinyl quality & poor pressing quality makes it completely unworthy of spending any money on such 'modern' re-issued records. I am still on the hunt for the original pressings from Angel/Odeon and some early HMV, Polydor pressings. But then again, you NEVER buy them blindly without proper inspection of the condition of the records & if possible test-playing them on a good turntable. 🧿🎵🎼🎹🎶🧿
Correct, even old records of 70s,80s should also be bought very carefully.Such records are now being pushed in the market.Peopke, specially hi-tech youngest and have spoiled tge market by paying higher prices on records.I have seen they have been doing g it dance last 10 years or so by just going g thru the covers they buy the records.
New generation english.medium.se padha hai ,wo old dongs nahin sunega ya nahin sunta hai..Abhi humari generation hai to records pe songs sunte glhain.Abhi radio ceylon ke listners bhi bahut kam ho gaye hain,jo ki geniine listners hain ,to aane wala kal India mein records ka nahin hone wala hai. Ye generation pen drive wa la hai.
Sir sahee Kahe Mera ladki express same opinion. Chori chori gane, sunaya tho muje bakwas khaha. My Grand pha, father my self viely records lower. It’s costly affair fire be lajawab old is gold
Very nice video for audio enthusiasts and vinyl lover.

Thank you so much. I am really glad to know u liked the video.
The prices have indeed gone up beyond affordability. Hope they get regularised soon.
Now a days every one demands a high price for old and new releases records too, that's why I stop buying records.
Thanks for bringing this up. I completely agree. The prices have gone up through the roof and I feel this is killing the vinyl market in India.
