So many comments about the verses and the chorus, but for me the killer part of this song is the PRE-CHORUS ! .. It's wonderful and goes in a delightfully unexpected melodic direction .. This is a middle-ranking ABBA song for me, and I enjoy it, even if the chorus does get just a tad repetitive by the end .. Love the live performance ( mimed ) on YT with the ladies dressed in pink and purple !
Good morning dearest Marissa & Tyler In this case I will make a single comment for the last two songs in "Voulez Vous" album There is a video of ABBA's performance in Switzerland in February 1979 with what would be the last two songs of the future album Voulez Vous (remember that the album Voulez Vous was released in April 1979) ABBA did a TV special there, with guest artists (Kate Bush and Roxy Music among them), on the occasion of the International Year of the Child and in favor of UNICEF. In this special, ABBA premiered several songs from their future album "Voulez Vous", including these two songs. More than the songs, I am going to pay attention to Frida and Agnetha. the body attitude that the girls give to those already recorded in the studio is spectacular, and in this case it is very important, since both are sexy and seductive, more in the second theme with the explosive interventions of Agnetha (I would risk saying that she seems almost wild, less than two months after her separation from Björn) They were not hits or as well known because from the album "Voulez Vous" four singles were released in the UK. all Top 5 but none #1: #2 Chiquitita #4 Does your mother know #3 Voulez Vous / Angeleyes #2 I have a dream Personally none of them are among my favorite ABBA songs, for me they are regular or acceptable, 4/5pts, such is the high level of the ABBA catalog I think that both songs have good passages, but they do not conform to me as a whole from "Lovers (live a little longer)" I think it's the only ABBA choir that I don't like, at times it seems to me that the girls shout more than sing, and that shock doesn't appeal to me from "Kisses of fire" I don't like the almost falsetto voices of the girls, but it was the trend set by the Bee Gees and the song itself for me stays halfway I'm going against the grain of most ABBA fans on this, but I'm honest with what I think. That is why I believe that in both cases the singers Frida and Agnetha they exceed with their interpretations in that TV special the level of each song. Both songs are influenced by disco and the hit movie "Saturday Night Fever." greetings and blessings from Buenos Aires, Argentina South America I
This is one if my favourite ABBA songs. Not as well known as their big hits. Suggest you react to ”I’m still alive” (live att Wembley London 1979). It is written by Agnetha. She also plays piano on that performance.
Love Frida's soulful vocals in the verses, always love her vocals, also love the pre-chorus, but the chorus - I don't know. But it has a groovy vibe to it.
I have become very hooked on seeing you, Ty and M, soaking in all these ABBA songs. Ty you have great reactions. This is my first post to you. My ABBA years, I was in the UK. The Voulez-Vous album was their « Disco 🪩 » album as it was released in 1979 during the disco era. Lovers is an original album filler, and Frida is the Lead. She is mezzo-sop, and Agnetha is sop. This is one of my favourites 😉. If you ever have an ABBA question… I’m quite the ABBA-pedia
This song grew on me so much. It was a skip for me the first time I heard it, but I loved the strings in it a lot. Then I just grew to love everything else about it too. Not my favourite, but a banger for sure.
Love your channel and Abba journey. For me this is probably one of my favorite songs in which both Frida & Agnetha have there shining moment of their amazing singing skills. This in combination with the explosive and tongue twisting chorus lines, a real complicated structure and still having the cooling down verses. To me the song is funky, laid-back, dynamic and a little chaotic. But maybe not best to listen after having listened to almost all of Abba’s songs, when you are at a point of saturation. In my opinion the song really suits the disco vibe sound of the album Voulez-Vous. I do agree the music instrumentation might be more dominant for the taste than necessarily the singing parts. For every song a different mood and vice versa. Greetings from The Netherlands 🫶💫
ABBA's studio guitarrist Janne Schaffer recorded later his studioalbum EARMEAL together with several of the musicians from TOTO during the same period 1978-79. By the way, Janne has said that TOTO liked ABBA's choice of name, short and easy, which probably made them influenced to choose TOTO for their own group.
Nice to see you, guys! This is a very good song... (to me and many others) but in a totally different style (well... something normal in the case of ABBA)... There is a video of this song, preceded by 'Kisses of fire'... really amazing... the girls look really gorgeous 😍😍 (I hope to see you react to it in the near future, guys) See you, Maryler... ❤️🇨🇱👍
Lovers was one of the first songs recorded for Voulez Vous. The Toto song, Africa came out 4 years later than this one. How will lovesick Tyler cope with Agnetha's Wrap Your Arms Around Me? He may faint.
Just found out Björn recently wrote lyrics for a song by an artist called Benjamin Ingrosso. It's really pretty, and I think it's got that Abba vibe to it. Would be interesting to see your reactions to it! (The title of the song is "I had it all and let it go")
On the ABBA scale I would rank this on the lower side. But like you've said in other videos, they are so good that even their lower ranked songs are still not awful!! So glad to see this. I was disappointed when it wasn't posted yesterday. Now I can go on with my life!!!😊 I'd really like to see you react to "Second Best to None." Agnetha & Frida are not singing, but the staff of Benny's Hotel is. Benny & Bjorn wrote it as a commercial, but I really like the sound of it. Hope you check it out at some point!! You two are great!!!
Ooh dear girl so young, you don't want to be hard sick and don't say no to this as this is noone choice as natural. I have really hard problems with my brother, no one can choice this, just happened ... wish you all the best and health mainly.
I believe Lovers would have fit better as a b side to one of the singles of that period and 'Summernight city' would have been great instead to fill the 10 tracks order that vynils 'allowed' at the time.(But They wanted to dinstance themselves from SNC at the time cause they weren't pleased and didn't want it to be considered as as the lead single off the VV album but Chiquitita.)
Lovers is in my Bottom 3 of 'Voulez Vous.' The verses and pre-chorus are great, and Frida sounds very seductive. But as has been said in the comments, the chorus lets it down. But I do think that if the backing vocals were slightly lower in the mix, I would like it more.
Tyler, could you get Marissa to react, "If it Wasn't for the nights"? It is one of the best ABBA songs, it would be ideal if they react to the official video in Japan 1978, ruclips.net/video/bonFoK1wY0I/видео.html , since you only reacted to the audio.
Africa by Toto was released in 1982 so a few years after so I guess Toto ripped off Abba, ha ha? The contrast between Frida's sultry tone and Agnetha's higher register cutting in is amazing! The song is about an article Bjorn saw in a newspaper about people with a more regular sex life living longer than folk that dont!
I’m on the outer here but not one of my favourites.. too much noise for me.. miss those abba harmonies, feel like they are shouting at me with this one.. lol
Not a favourite, if you can find the oops version which strips certain channels from the song, you hear some amazing backing vocals in the chorus buried deep in the mix.
I think this is my least favorite track off of Voulez-Vous. I like the music but I just do not like the chorus even after 44 years now I just think it's a weak track and could have been replaced by a better song
For non fans or people who dislike ABBA this one is annoying mainly because of the “screaming “ style of the girls singing the chorus. However if you’re a fan this is pure ABBA ecstasy ❤
One of my least favorite ABBA songs ever. So many of your subscribers have been pushing for you to react to this and I’ve been dreading this one. I find it so chaotic and harsh on the ears, even unpleasant. There’s actually no part of the song I enjoy. There I’ve said it!
It's more so it was one of the last of the latter songs they hadn't done rather than anticipating the reaction to it. I was half expecting we'd get Santa Rosa or something. We have Man In The Middle to do as well Time to so some solo stuff before Chess after that.
I agree, not a fan of this one at all. I think it shouldn’t have made it to the album either. Quite possibly their worst song, and I am a HUGE fan of 46 years!
Fair enough, the chorus can sound a little shrill and discordant on first listen or two but the verses are sweet and the chorus grew on me with a couple of listens.
it's by far my least favorite track of the album Voulez Vous... I too love the music, the arrangement, the concept of the song, but the chorus is not for me....too shreaky or would you say it English ? I think you know what i mean. Though it's good track for variety reasons on the album.... but it hasn't really grown on me in 44 years, unlike for instance 1977's I'm A Marionette or 1979's The King Has Lost His Crown. Though I do like that once again Frida is adventurous with her vocals, playing the sexy almost jazzy sensual woman... she probably loved recording it..
One of my least favourite Abba songs. Sure it has an unusual syncopated rhythm and Friday’s vocal in verse is fine. I just feel it’s lazier songwriting than normal. Particularly the chorus, which sounds rattley to me. I live Abba but they have made much better off album tracks
This song grows on you. On first, listen, you try to get it, but on second, you start to really feel it. I really really love it.
So true.
I love those strings and the funky feeling. This song will grow the more you listen.
I always loved this song, its smokey, and rhythmic and Fridas vocals are as sultry as a sultry thing.❤
Good description.
Great song. Top twenty of Abba songs. Bravo Frida!
One of my most favourite Abba songs. The syncopations, especially in the bassline, are exciting. Great vocals, as always.
Defo one of their best, strongest songs. Frida's sultry vocals are perfect. I was blown away by it when i first heard it about 34 years ago
I love the “chanting” during the chorus - the high pitched repetition of the phrase “lovers live a longer” over and over again.
Twists your tongue ...btw backingtrack/backing vocals just to see how much work is hidden underneath.

This song is brilliant, idk why people hate on it.

People have mixed feelings on this one. I really enjoy Frida's low verses and the nice high notes from Agnetha.
It’s one of my favorites from this album!!😂😂👍🏻👍🏻❤️❤️
The only saving grace is Frida's vocals on the verses. I usually skip this 😂 but it's still I love ABBA even at their worst😍
'still love Abba even at their 'worst"...yes man! Also Frida's magnetic vocals are kind of hypnotizing..
This song grew on me so much. It was a skip for me the first time I heard it, but I loved the strings in it a lot. Then I just grew to love everything else about it too. Not my favourite, but a banger for sure.

I agree totally! I prefer the verse to the chorus, totally! Beautiful kind of ABBA verse.
Thanks, Marissa! Thanks, Tyler! 💞 #TylerCreatesContent #ABBA #LoversLiveALittleLonger

It has a very 70s disco feel which I love about it

Yes great video!

He may faint.
LOL,WYAAM let your love surround me /make ...shhh AlsoAgnetha 'The Last time"?...mmmm!..A great one imo.
Leave it to ABBA to write an Acid Disco Swing piece in 79. (whispers yes it is the reason)
I love the verse (70ties soul feel), the chorus a litlle bit to much at the end. Very complex and great elements in this song

You're both forgiven. 🥀
Get well Marissa❤ this song is not on my best list, but I love Fridas part.
Africa was released after this
Ok, you don’t analyze this song, you feel it, whooo
Sincerely, Tyler, let the ace speak without influencing him. She seems to me a good feeling musically, even if she was in love with you.🤣😘😉

What about Abba - Rock and roll band next time?
There are only a few abba songs left 😢

Discover something new to react. I would suggest a french singer Mylene Farmer. Start with a song Sans Logique.
For non fans or people who dislike ABBA this one is annoying mainly because of the “screaming “ style of the girls singing the chorus.
However if you’re a fan this is pure ABBA ecstasy ❤
I would say the exact opposite. I can't stand take a chance on me or M amma Mia, but this is brilliant. An unknown classic.
Not there best song. Tyler nice job on yr beard short n trimmed good job.. you look ten times better !)😊

everything about this song,sorry!
My least favorite track on the album: to repetitive
Hate this song. The shouty chorus absolutely ruins it for me. bottom 3 all time.
I'm a big abba fan...but I never liked this song....😬 one of their worst
