      Well I guess the way it is in life is you choose what you like. Ill take the crap bucket award. But someone that chooses the new charger Well you cant blame them either Its what car companies give us and its actually not a bad car it just falls severely short of filling the shoes of the original Charger . If I ever by a new charger Ill just use it as a taxi cab a Hellecat taxi thats a good job for that car or Ex police cars to cruise the left lane in and watch people move out of your way.

    • @dodgeking9194
      @dodgeking9194 8 лет назад

      Yep severely short The old one had 2 doors and could carry a family. Where did you ever get the idea that it couldn't? It had a back seat that was good for 3 people and 2 in the front of there was a console otherwise 3 could sit in front as well. the new ones should start going to demolition derbys or let the Yahoos start painting them orange and jumping them. The old ones often sell for more than new Hellcat versions so let the new ones take a turn getting crashed and thrashed We wont miss them like the old ones .

      ***** The reason we have safety features on new cars is because back in the day there were weenies just like you today that thought they could drive and underestimated the power of some of these cars and got themselves into trouble So today car companies have to take away some of the control from drivers because they dont know how to use it responsibility While its true some of todays features help protect people in the event of crashes the bottom line is People cause and thier stupidity cause car crashes not cars. and if you open up that one track mind of yours You would see that. There are still plenty of car crashes today. Why is that? Safety features, excellent handling, ABS, traction control, air bags somehow still haven't stopped car crashes. Because of people who try to drive beyond thier ability and irresponsible use of cars. I dont give a damn what features they add to a car if the driver cant drive or is careless theres going to be an accidentSo its not about yesterdays cars being shit boxes. Yesterdays cars wrote the recipe for today cars. and I love all performance cars old and new But My love is more with the classics so Yes I love them and will always own one. You dont have to own any That leaves more for us. You stick to your safe new cars Just learn how to drive first. Now Beat it and take off that trick mustache.

      ***** I cant shut up because my mouth dosent have modern computer controls on it. Its like the old cars. Just raw power. Sure your driving record is perfect. It should be with air bags and ABS and traction control and auto braking Thats what new cars are designed to do Make better drivers congratulations on your acievement

      Chester Roberts And which variation of the Lee are they using? The official specs call for a 440. But there were many variations of the General for the show. Many had 383s, even a few 318. Bo's General Lee had a 511 in it. They should specify which engine is powering this General Lee.

      Kamikazee Driver I agree, but I would go even further than that because story wise the General had a custom engine that I don't think we even know how big or powerful it was. So saying the Charger from the show loosing to the new Charger may not be accurate if you take into account the mythic engine they put in is that powerful.

    • @newyork819

      +Chester Roberts Yeah, and it took 45 years to do it.
      Half a century ago low tech ruled and past the time and duration.

      @@chargermaster586 It's a joke, because for a hellcat, people will take the Challenger all day. If someone has enough to pay for a new hotrod toy, they'll get the better looking car. No actual adult will put their family in a sedan with 707 hp. That's not anything to make a joke about. Cars can be replaced not people.

      It used to be a muscle car, but now it's a family sedan with a big engine. The 2010s Dodge Challenger, though a different model, is closer to the 1969 Dodge Charger General Lee than the 2010s Dodge Charger.

    • @Dime6String
      @Dime6String 9 лет назад +2

      Loys Eugene Carter Wrong! In the series, there are I think 2 episodes where they mention having a NASCAR spec 440 that they got from one of Richard Petty's junked cars (which in the episode was a horribly repainted Lee 1).
      Only in the Knoxville/Stiffler bigscreen movie, did the General have a Hemi.

    • @Dime6String
      @Dime6String 9 лет назад +2

      In the series, they mention it being a 440. Not all of Richards cars were Hemis.

    • @loyseugene
      @loyseugene 9 лет назад +2

      ***** In the SCRIPT I read of episode 129 where they are repo men it makes no mention of the engine displacement. It said that Petty had wrecked the car doing a tire commercial and that motor would make the General run like "Lee at Manasses" Also, In real life, Petty never raced a '68 or '69 charger. He drove a '66 plymouth road runner then re-skinned it to look like a '67. He asked twice for the new '68 charger and dodge told him no twice so in '69 he was driving FORDs when Dodge saw the error of their ways and got Petty back he was in chargers and they were all hemi's but whatever you can believe what you want and I will believe what I have seen and I don't care to discuss it any further.

      Charger Master i dont think people understand. Dodge made the charger because if they didn't, they would not have a midsize sedan in their lineup. The place of the company's flagship 2-door is taken by the Challenger. It just wouldn't make any sense to offer two coupe models and zero sedans.
      Plus the charger still performs incredibly well. The hellcat is the fastest and the most powerful production sedan in the world.

      Hey now, the Neon was a cute car. It was my wife's first car, and it did it's job quite well: fairly roomy compact sedan for getting around town. The Dodge Charger, however, is marketed as a muscle car, but it's just an ugly family sedan with a big, loud engine that drinks gas. I'd rather have a Chevy Malibu or Impala for my family sedan -- at least it's built to be what it is: a family sedan.

    Well this test proves a few things here. First of all comparing an old mechanical car to a car loaded with technology and computers assisting the driver in every aspect is kind of pointless other than to compare how much more efficient computers are. Second Yes the new car outperforms the old in every aspect But considering the technology in the new car Does it really totally beat the old car senseless? NO IT DOSENT! it fairs better but not really by that much in all of the tests. There is one thing that the new Charger will never ever have and that is the class and general bad ass look that the old one has. I love the Dodge Charger Old and new but the mopar boys really failed us big time with the new charger They could have done a better job

    • @dodgeking9194
      @dodgeking9194 8 лет назад

      Hey you... Mrs. Lovey. You obviously have no concept of the Dodge Charger and the history surrounding this car and If I were you before you tell someone to "get over it" go sit down and read about it first. Then when you learn something come back and try again. Since 1966 the Dodge Charger was meant to be a 2 door luxury sedan with optional performance if the buyer opted for it. by 1968 they tweaked the look and ended up with a car that was judged to be the best looking car of the time only to be beaten out by the new look of the Vette which was very similar in shape. After that the look of the Chargers started to slowly decline and yes the POS they had in the 1980's was nothing to be proud of BUT it still followed the 2 door concept. Much as I love the 1980's Every car in the 1980's was just basic transportation. The Mustang was little a degraded POS then too but STILL it had 2 doors.The best thing they could do was put the Charger name to rest at that time because they weren't doing the name any justice. They had a real chance to make a stunner of a car come back to life again in the Dodge Charger and they ruined it They quickly tried to make changes and make it look more like the old Charger which they did to a certain degree but they left it as a 4 door. Then to tweak peoples interest they throw in a super charger and people today that are so disconnected with automotive history act like its the greatest invention since the wheel. REAL CHARGERS HAVE 2 DOORS NOT 4!!!! Tell Ford to make their favorite son the Mustang with 4 doors or Chevy's all American hero the Camaro with 4 doors they wont because they are not as stupid as the idiots at the new Dodge company. Its funny how fast they ushered in the Challenger after the Charger and they did it to shut everyone the hell up about complaining over the Charger. Part of the problem with the original Chrysler motors corporation is Unlike Ford and Chevy they sold out and are not one of the original big 3 anymore and since europeans love 4 door performance cars that's why the Charger ended up that way too. Dodge also eliminated Plymouth which was another brilliant move by these modern day idiots because they eliminated some good potential comebacks like the Road Runner GTX, Duster and Cuda. Then again maybe that's a good thing after all because we dont more bad ass icons ruined We dont need need 4 door Cudas too. Im not saying the 4 door Chargers are junk but they could have did a much better job. If anyone had any common sense over at Dodge They would have named this car Coronet because those were available in 4 doors and performance models too. A little historical research by these so called Dodge guys would have went a long way.Theres no Mopar guys at Mopar anymore just guys making cars. And Yes losing 2 doors would be a good start and until that happens then to me the last Charger they ever made was that little 2 door hatchback you referenced from the 1980's. So dont tell me to get over it because I don't want to. You go find something to get over and then get over it.

      +SmegSlebChef i like the old charger better aswell but i do have to admit these tests arent representative of real world driving im sure if you put an average driver in the seat on an actual road with traffic and pedestrians an other real world stuff both cars would be about equal the only benefit that the new charger would offer would be better fuel mileage...however that is negligible considering the maintenance cost and how without the computer brain that new charger would only get about one third the the advertised mileage... hell even the mileage tests on those cars is done in less than realistic conditions....in other words ill take the older better looking charger every time peace and kep the classics rolling and turning heads

    Most of the people making comments here resist progress. You can't live in 1969 forever folks times change. The 69 is classic and yeah what car enthusiast wouldn't want one but the new chargers are fantastic too. (2015-16)

      well I know nothing of the year 1969 and have never lived in the 60's or 70's but I still see the old charger as a much cooler looking car. Of course living in the past seems to be working great for the challenger

      Yeah times change but when you look at the old one you see an elegant, stylish fast looking sports car. Then you look at the new one and it's big, ugly, a sedan... I mean come on

      mixwb You Really think a car performs better because of it being 2 doors and boxy the new Charger hellcats with 707hp and 650 pound feet of torque is really fun not as cool looking as its 1960s predecessors but still fast and fun to only pick 1969 dodge charger today because its a 2 door and looks cool would be like marrying a girl because the way she looks and nothing and is a terrible person on the inside.

    @StrightSideways just so you know, the six pack wasnt available in 69 for the charger yet, it was for the "A12" 69 roadrunner, six pack came available for the 70 charger, but in 69 it was either a 440 or 426 HEMI, that was for R/Ts, regular chargers got 383s,318s and very rare inline 6, not many of those lol, this general lee probably was a 383 at most and not an R/T

    @the934x4 chevy may be broadcasting, but I haven't seen it yet. I will definitely check it out. as for the power stroke vs cummings, the cummings doesn't make more power, it matters on the weight of the truck. there are two main videos on youtube. 1 where the powerstroke is a dually, and yes the dodge won that. then there's another where the powerstroke isn't a dually and the ford waits till a little after the dodge takes off and damn near catches up with it. posting under a seconds difference.

    You're doing it all wrong, the General is supposed to be driven sideways on the straights and obviously it doesn't slalom, you need jump it while honking the horn. This will instantly increase it's power by a factor of 10!

    With the age difference and tire and brake technology the way it was the compared to now the old charger did pretty well. Put some better tires and brakes on the Charger and tune up that old 440 and the quarter mile times would be about the same. My 440 1970 Charger with a bigger carb and headers and 456 gears recorded a quarter mile time of 12.2.

    I am actually impressed with the numbers on the original Charger. I thought there was going to be absolutely no comparison, the only thing it had a HUGE problem with was braking. Those old 11" drum brakes were good for ONE panic stop, that was it until they cooled off. I'm pretty sure that with some tweaks the 69 could get numbers closer to the new one without breaking the bank. Not hating on either one, I have an 05 Magnum RT, my dad has an 09 Charger R/T AND '08 300 Heritage Edition.

    The real question is what powerplant and transmission is in the general. To my understanding the show used 318, 383, and 440 all with 3 automatics. I'd love to have the performance of the modern charger, but it's the General is the freaking General Lee.

    There are many things to consider when looking at these two cars, but for me, it all comes down to which one I'd consider selling an internal organ for. And that would be the 69. Yes its slower takes longer to stop blar, blar, blar, but good God that is one sweet ride. For all its issues, I'd go for the 69 Charger every time...
